Jacob I loved, Esau I hated

the judge has made his verdict

Man is dead in sin, what does dead mean to you? In what way is the word dead used [in Greek and English]? How do the dead respond? If dead doesn't mean physically dead, then what does it mean? If it means spiritually dead, how do the spiritually dead accept a spiritual offer? What does it mean to be quickened?

JM also wrote in another thread: “Drew, it's time to pray and ask Christ into your heart. All this debate will not answer the questions your soul is seeking answers to.â€Â

Are you now ready to impart to him your gift of life? Or have you now judged Drew as spiritually undead?

What does it mean to be ‘dead to sin’? How can Christians who are dead to sin respond to temptations? What is ‘dead faith’? Faith without works. How does dead faith save anyone? It seems to me you have taken Paul’s metaphor and turned it into a doctrine. That seems a foolhardy way to invent your theology. A more reasonable way to understand this figure of speech is to see that Paul means the man who lives in sin is living with a death sentence over them.

You mean as in RIP? We were talking about the meaning of ‘dead’ in those scriptures. I guess if you took it as a figure of speech, you’d have to throw out most of your theology. I know that’s what I had to do. It was pretty traumatic but it’s great just reading the Bible and believing what it says without having to turn it inside out to mean what you want it to.
