Bible Study JESUS OUR EXAMPLE and the APOSTLES OBEYED GOD'S LAW and the SABBATH!

Hey Papa a few more comments...

Referring to

Matthew 15
3,
But he answered and said unto them, WHY DO YOU TRANSGRESS THE COMMANDMENT OF GOD BY YOUR TRADITION? <Jesus is asking the question WHY ARE YOU BREAKING God's Commandment by following your own tradition>
4, For GOD COMMANDED, saying, HONOR YOUR FATHER AND MOTHER (5th Commandment) : and, He that curseth father or mother, let him die the death.
5, But ye say, Whosoever shall say to his father or his mother, It is a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me;
6, And honour not his father or his mother, he shall be free.
THUS HAVE YOU MADE THE COMMANDMENT OF GOD OF NONE EFFECT BY YOUR TRADITION.
7,
Ye hypocrites, well did Esaias prophesy of you, saying,
8, This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.
9, But IN VAIN THEY DO WORSHIP ME TEACHING FOR DONTRINES THE COMMANDMENTS OF MEN.

LoveGodsWord said: Now it is very clear here in the Words of Jesus himself that if we break God's Commandments by following our own traditions, Jesus says we are NOT following God.

Well, it's not clear to me He is saying that. Talk of the Law when He's addressing a Jewish audience doesn't mean that His words are meant for Believers. It's all about context IMO.

Not sure why you are saying this section would you like to explain your point further? Reason why I ask this is that breaking God's 10 Commandments is SIN correct (Romans 3:20; 7:7; James 2:8:12; 1 John 3:4). God's people were following a man made tradition that was breaking God's Commandments by breaking the 5th Commandment. All through the OLD and NEW Testament the judgements of God have ONLY ever been given to mankind because of SIN (happy to provide scripture just let me know). As it has been in the past so shall it be in the future. KNOWN SIN will keep all those who practice it OUT of God's KINGDOM because by doing this you rejecte the GIFT of God's dear son (Romans 6:23; Hebrews 10:26-27).

Jesus says himself in v9 But IN VAIN THEY DO WORSHIP ME TEACHING FOR DONTRINES THE COMMANDMENTS OF MEN. The Greek word VAIN here is G3155 μάτην maten (ma'-teen) adv.1. folly. 2. (adverbially) to no purpose, futilely. CONTEXT is "IT IS FUTILE (no purpose) in WORSHIPING GOD while following man made traditions that BREAK THE COMMANDMENTS OF GOD.

So yep seems like Jesus is very clear here and means what he says....

Everything in the Ten Commandments are repeated in the NT except the Sabbath. It's not taught anywhere in the NT. If it were so important, you'd think it would be covered.

Isnt what your posting here in disagreement with what you have posted in POST # 185 (linked)? The statement above is not true. God's 4th Commandment is repeated all through the NEW and the OLD Testament scriptures not to mention all the scriptures of the collective 10 Commandments. (Scripture support linked HERE # 1; HERE #2; and HERE #3)

Lot of scripture presented in the links there that disagree with what you have said above.

In the days of Jesus they were still under the Law and not under Grace. That's a huge difference. Now we are under a New Covenant. Not the Law, but Grace. That doesn't mean that God's Law (I'm now not speaking of the Ten Commandments) can be broken. Jesus offered us many commandments and said if we love Him we'd keep His commandments. Love one another. Be a servant. Share the love of Christ to the unfortunate of the world. We could make a huge list from the many things Jesus commanded. But only to the Jews did he speak of the Law.

For me Papa the term to be "Under the LAW" has a different meaning. To be "Under the LAW" means to be convicted and guilty of breaking it by committing SIN. As it is written...

Rom 3,
19,
Now we know that what things soever the law said, it said to them who are UNDER THE LAW: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God. (Why?)

God's LAW is the KNOWLEDGE of SIN and RIGHTEOUSNESS (Romans 3:20; Ps 119:172) as it is written wheather someone KNOWS God's LAW or not the outcome is still the same. There are consequences for breaking it.

Rom
2,
For as many as have sinned without law shall also perish without law: and as many as have sinned in the law shall be judged by the law;

I BELIEVE we are ONLY SAVED by GRACE through FAITH and not of ourselvers it is a GIFT of GOD and NOT OF WORKS lest any man should boast. (Ephe 2:8).

There is NOTHING we can do to save ourselves or earn our salvation we are sinners in need of a Saviour to save us from SIN. This is the purpose of God's LAW (10 Commandments). They lead us to Christ that we can be forgiven as we have FAITH in his WORD (the Gospel)

But Jesus does more. He does not save us IN SIN to continue in SIN, we have a Saviour that has the POWER of creation to SAVE US FROM SIN so we no longer need to Continue in it.

The NEW COVENANT IS INDEED LOVE but LOVE is NOT SEPARATE to God's 10 Commandments because it is ONLY through LOVE that God fulfills his LAW in all those who by FAITH BELIEVE in HIS promises.... (Scripture support linked click)

2 Pet 1
4.
Whereby are given to us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these you might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

Many do not know what GRACE and FAITH are for.....

Rom 1
5,
By whom we have received GRACE and apostleship, FOR OBEDIENCE TO THE FAITH among all nations, for his name

and faith...

Rom 3
31,
Do we then make void the law through FAITH? GOD FORBID: YES, WE ESTABLISH THE LAW

Just my thought Papa what do you think? I like your attitude as well. It's nice to be able to discuss God's Word in a friendly and open manner and search the scriptures together. Thanks for being friendly and open

Thanks for sharing your thoughts Papa Zoom, I enjoy talking to you. Some questions and comments witten below for your consideration below....

If you BELIEVE that Matthew 15:3-9 is only written for Jew and not for anyone else then how do you reconclide God's Word that says; All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works. (2 Tim 3:16)

Well I didn't say written only to the Jew. It's a recording of the words of Jesus when addressing the Jews. Such a message would have zero relevance to a gentile.

And it doesn't follow logically that since all Scripture is given by inspiration etc that we follow everything written. Some things are specifically addressing Christians and some are not. Are we to stone adulterers then? That is Scripture? Where is the line drawn?

I do not think that observing the Sabbath, in the way the Jews were instructed to observe it, is for a NT Christian.

again..

Man does not LIVE by bread alone but by EVERY WORD that proceeds out of the mouth of God
(Matt 4:4)
My answer here would be the same as above.

and again..

Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come (1 Cor 10:11).

I'm not seeing how in context this has anything to do with a command to continue the OT observance of Sabbath.
Do you not agree that Mattew 15:3-9 is the Word of God that is written for us?
All Scripture is written for us - for our benefit. Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans that I have for you,' declares the Lord, 'plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope. This verse has nothing to do with us. It's not a promise to us. It's not written to us. If we claim it, we are misusing Scripture. So your argument fails on the point that just because it's recorded in the Bible, it's for us to observe or claim and think of as if it was written to us. It's just not the case.

Some further questions that may help the discussion....

Who is Israel or the Jews under the NEW COVENANT? (scripture support here linked)

Who is the NEW Covenant written for and what is the NEW COVENANT? (Hebrews 8:10-12)

I believe it is the WORD of God and we are to BELIEVE and follow it because God wrote it for us.

Just some thought Papa let me know what you think?

Bite size pieces. ;)

Because in context, this was Jesus addressing the Jews. We can learn from them. But you cannot make a case for the Sabbath with these verses. Not in any way I can see.

You're now giving me too many messages to respond to. Bite size pieces are best.

I'm simply stating a fact. The NT doesn't address the Sabbath. As to the other commandments, God has a universal law that applies beyond the parameters of the written Law. That's how the other commandments would apply. They simply repeat this universal law.

As for the Sabbath, there are many sympathetic voice for observing the Sabbath among Protestant leaders but not for the reasons you cite. God knows us best and we need rest. We also need to take time out to center on Him. We get this day or rest not from the Ten Commandments but from the creation account.

Now did God actually rest on the 7th day? No. He ceased something. I'm studying this and have yet to fully work this out. God doesn't get tired and doesn't need to rest like we humans do. I'm comfortable with teaching the need of a Sabbath as we are created to need rest. It's a wise man who gives his body and mind a rest. But not observing an official Sabbath is not a sin as it's not required for NT Christians. There's no written command to this effect.

To make it easier, we need to keep your replies to me down to one or two posts at a time. 5 is too many. One is best. Two at most. ;)

Hi Papa,

Sorry I have been away for a bit so can only pop in when I can. Perhaps it might be good to consider some questions. Let me know your thoughts?

SOME QUESTIONS ON THE SABBATH! DO YOU KNOW THE ANSWERS?

Please find the scripture in God's WORD that says......

1. That God's 4th commandments 7th day Sabbath has been abolished?

2. That Jesus is a Sabbath?

3. The Sabbath (seventh day) was ever changed from the seventh to the first day of the week?

4. Where we are told to keep the first day of the week holy?

5. Where the first day of the week (Sunday) is ever called a holy day?

6. That says that Jesus ever kept the first day (Sunday)?

7. That tells us to keep the first day in honour of the resurrection of Christ?

8. Where the first day is ever given any sacred name?

9. That affirms that any of the apostles ever kept the first day as the Sabbath?

10. From any apostolic writings that authorizes Sunday observance as the Sabbath of God?

11. Where we are told not to work on the first day of the week?

12. That says the seventh day is no longer God's Sabbath day?

13. That says the seventh day Sabbath is ABOLISHED?

14. Where the apostles ever taught any convert to keep the first day of the week as a Sabbath?

15. Where the first day was ever appointed to be kept as the Lord's Day?

16. Where the first day of the week is ever called the Lord's Day?

17. That says that the first day of the week was ever sanctified and hallowed as a day of rest?

18. That says that the Father or the Son (Jesus) rested on the first day of the week?

19. That says that Jesus, Paul or any other of the apostles taught anyone to observe the first day of the week as the Sabbath?

20. That calls the seventh day the “Jewish Sabbath” or one text that calls Sunday the “Christian Sabbath”?

21. Telling man to keep the first day of the week holy or to worship or rest on the first day of the week?

22. Authorizing anyone to set aside God's Sabbath and observe any other day?

23. Showing any of the apostles keeping the first day of the week as the Sabbath?

24. Authorizing

someone to set aside the fourth Commandment and observe any other day of the week?

25. Where any apostle taught us to keep the first day of the week as the Sabbath?

26. Declaring that the seventh day is no longer the Eternal Sabbath day?

27. Where Sunday is now appointed to be kept as the New Testament Sabbath or holy day?

If you cannot answer any of the above, who should we obey God or man? Something to seriously pray about my dear friends.

...........................

God's 4th commandment is one of the ten (Exodus 20:8-11) If we knowingly break it when God asks us not to we stand guilty before God of committing sin (James 2:8-12). If we do not seek him in repentance and forgiveness we are in danger of the Judgement (Hebrews 10:26-27)

Sunday worship is a tradition and teaching of man that has led many to break the commandments of God. Jesus says that if we follow the traditions of man that break the commandments of God we are not following God (Matthew 15:3-9)

There is not one scripture in all of God's Word that says that God's 4th Commandment is now ABOLISHED and we are now commanded to KEEP Sunday as a Holy day.

Who should we follow the teachings and traditions of men or the Word of God? Who should we believe the Words of men or the Word of God?

In times of ignorance God winks at but now ,<when a KNOWLEDGE of the truth has come> calls all men everywhere to REPENT (FOLLOW) (Acts 17:30-31).

Do you believe it is a sin, not to observe the Sabbath according to the law of Moses, which says -

14 You shall keep the Sabbath, therefore, for it is holy to you. Everyone who profanes it shall surely be put to death; for whoever does any work on it, that person shall be cut off from among his people. 15 Work shall be done for six days, but the seventh is the Sabbath of rest, holy to the Lord. Whoever does any work on the Sabbath day, he shall surely be put to death. 16 Therefore the children of Israel shall keep the Sabbath, to observe the Sabbath throughout their generations as a perpetual covenant. Exodus 31:14-16

If we brake any of God's commandments it is showing we do not LOVE God or our fellow man...

Thie is why Jesus says....... If you LOVE me keep my COMMANDMENTS (John 14:15;15:10)

In times of ignorance God winks at but now calls all men every where to REPENT for the KINGDOM of HEAVEN is at HAND (Acts 17:30-31)
Hi Love, All of the 10 commandments were meant to show God's standards. The whole law is a law of Condemnation. The law was given to condemn mans sins against God. (Rom. 5:12-21) It was never a law to make a man righteous...because, no man can keep the law. The glorious commandments of God that condemned man had a purpose, and we are to uphold the law. So, how do you uphold the Law of God (if we are not under the law, but under grace Rom. 6:14?) You let the law do what it was intended to do, and that was to condemn sin in sinful man and turn him to Christ. (Rom. 7:7-14). So, if you use the Law to stand before God as righteous by keeping the Sabbath (The Sabbath was not a day of worship but simply a day of rest for man and animal) but break any of the other 9 commandments, then you are still condemned. But we are now under the Law of Christ Who has given us His Spirit. If you want to worship God on the Sabbath, that is fine, but if you worship God on the Sabbath to please God by obedience to the Law, Then Christ is no avail to you, The same applies to tithing under the law. It is all right to tithe if that is what you want to do, But if you tithe expecting something in return or under the law of tithing, the you have put yourself under the law.. For you have decided to present your righteousness to God through law instead of the freedom we have in Christ (Rom. 14:5-7) (Gal. 4:9-11; 5:1-2). No one changed the law, The Jew'a kept the Sabbath and all feast days, but not to keep their salvation, it was a Jewish right, memorials and traditions. But the church usually met on the first day of the week together. (1 Cor.16:1-3). Please study the Scriptures.

Hi Douglas,

Big welcome and thanks for your comments and thoughts. Sorry for my slow replies as I can only make it here are time permits but will endeavor to reply when I can.

You touch on lots of worderful truths here from the Word of God demonstrating the purpose of God's LAW. It is indeed the standard of SIN and RIGHTEOUSNESS it is the mirror that we look into that shows us who we really are and it shows us that we are SINNERS in need of a Saviour. This is the purpose of God's LAW to lead us to the GIFT of God's dear son.

They that be whole need not a physician but they that are sick, but go learn what that means. I have not come to call the righteous but SINNERS to repentance. God's LAW shows us what it means. We are sick in need of a Physician. We all are sick with the sickness of SIN and without Jesus we can do nothing but SIN. Who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean? not one. All our righteousness is as flithy rags. They that be whole need not a physician but they that are sick, go lean what that means. God's LAW is the KNOWLEDGE of Good and Evil (SIN AND RIGHTEOUSNESS) Romans 3:20.

It is our schoolmaster to lead us to the cross that we might be justified by faith in the blood of Jesus and faith in his promises. I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ for it is the POWER of God unto salvation to everyone who BELIEVES...

This is the purpose of God's LAW to lead us to Christ. It shows us our need of a Saviour. The true Gospel is the POWER of GOD unto SALVATION from SIN. The false Gospel is the one spoken of in the Garden of Eden by the father of lies who says you can break God's Commandments and not surely die. Who do we believe is the question. The good news is that we have a Saviour that saves a sinner from SIN. The false Gospel teaches we can be saved while continuing IN SIN.

The NEW COVENANT

Hebrews 8
10,
For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, said the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:
11,
And they shall not teach every man his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest.
12, For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.

Truly, truly, I say unto you unless a man in born again he cannot see the KINGDOM of HEAVEN. God's promise of salvation is his LAW written in the heart of the SINNER to LOVE God and LOVE our fellow man. LOVE if the FULFILLING of God's LAW in those who BELIEVE the exceeding great and PRECIOUS promises. It makes us a partaker of the divine nature to escape the corruption in the world through lust.

NOW we follow him who calls us IN LOVE to LOVE another and LOVE is the fulfilling of God's LAW in those who BELIEVE.

Romans 13
8,
Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loves another has fulfilled the law.
9,
For this, You shall not commit adultery, You shall not kill, You shall not steal, You shall not bear false witness, You shall not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, You shall love your neighbor as yourself.
10,
Love works no ill to his neighbor: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.

ABIDING in him (the Word) we SIN NOT. He who continues in KNOWN SIN has neither seen him or knows him, Without him we can do nothing, but with him we can walk on water when he bids us come.

We are ONLY SAVED by GRACE through FAITH and NOT of OURSELVES it is a GIFT of GOD and NOT OF WORKS lest anyman should boast.

However if your FAITH does not have the FRUIT of OBEDIENCE to God's WORD then you are still in your SINS because you have rejected the GIFT of God's dear son (James 2:18; 20; 26; Romans 6:23). If your tree has no fruit then it is cast down and thrown into the fire (Matt 7:12-23)

The false Gospel teaches that GRACE and FAITH are a liscence to SIN and you will be saved while continuing in SIN. The Word of God teaches that salvation is from SIN and SIN is the breaking of God's Commandments. Those who CONTINUE to practice KNOWN SIN will NOT ENTER INTO the KINGDOM of HEAVEN.

WHAT IS GRACE FOR?

Romans 1
5,
By whom we have received GRACE and apostleship, FOR OBEDIENCE TO THE FAITH among all nations, for his name.

Romans 6
1,
What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. 2, How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?

DOES FAITH ABOLISH GOD'S LAW?

Romans 3
31,
Do we then ABOLISH THE LAW THROUGH FAITH? GOD FORBID: YES, WE ESTABLISH THE LAW.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO THOSE WHO CONTINUE IN SIN ONCE THEY RECEIVE A KNOWLEDGE OF THE TRUTH?

Hebrews 10
26, For if we sin willfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remains no more sacrifice for sins,
27, But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.

Indeed, those who CONTINUE IN SIN will not enter the KINGDOM of HEAVEN.

.................

Sunday worship is a tradition and teaching of man that has lead many to break the commandments of God.

Continuing...

So, if you use the Law to stand before God as righteous by keeping the Sabbath (The Sabbath was not a day of worship but simply a day of rest for man and animal) but break any of the other 9 commandments, then you are still condemned. But we are now under the Law of Christ Who has given us His Spirit.

Absolutely no one is saved by what they do we are ONLY SAVED by GRACE through FAITH and not of ourselves it is a GIFT of GOD. SIN is the transgression of God's LAW and if you break it you stand before God guilty of SIN and are "UNDER THE LAW" because you have transgressed it.

If you want to worship God on the Sabbath, that is fine, but if you worship God on the Sabbath to please God by obedience to the Law, Then Christ is no avail to you,

Very true. The purpose of the Gospel is salvation from SIN through FAITH in God's WORD to KNOW the POWER of God to save a SINNER from SIN. This is the NEW COVENANT of God's LAW written on the heart to LOVE God and our fellow man. This is why Jesus says; IF you LOVE me KEEP my COMMANDMENTS (John 14:15). Without Jesus we can do nothing this is the purpose of Gods LAW to show us our need. FAITH in GOD'S WORD however can move mountains and the WORD can create WORLDS.

Only God's Word is true and we should BELIEVE and FOLLOW it. SIN is the breaking of God's Commandments and those living in SIN have not yet been BORN again to LOVE as he first LOVES us because they have not seen their need.

Gentiles are not under the Mosaic Law. Neither are Christians.

If you have to post a book to try to show we must obey the Sabbath, your position is weak. All you'd need is ONE command to continue the Sabbath but there is nothing in the NT directing Christians to do such. There is NO SIN in not observing the Sabbath. The Jews are no longer under it either as there is a NEW Covenant which does not include the Mosaic Law.

I do not have to show or prove anything. The onus is on the claim to prove the case. Just one NT verse to show we MUST observe the Sabbath. But there is nothing.

No man can keep God's law, for the Law does not justify, save, make us righteous, can not make us perfect, can not redeem us. All that the law can do is condemn us...which was it's purpose. (Rom. 7:7-14) All the arguments you make about the law are the same arguments that the Jews used against Paul's preaching of Grace (Rom. 10:1-4) (Acts 15:1-31). The Epistle to the Hebrews is called Hebrews because it was written to the Jewish Christians that excepted Christ as Savior, but kept going back to the Law to be saved. But that was like hanging Christ on the Cross to an open shame, every time they sinned by going back to the law of commandments, when by now, they should have been able to teach others about Grace (Heb. 5:11-14; 6:1-9). Study all the Scriptures, They are self revealing and Spirit filled with the Truth that has set us free.
In Christ, who alone took our stripes, for it is by His Grace that He has set us free,

That goes without saying.

However those who teach the Sabbath as commandment today, seem to overlook such things.

Gentiles who live outside of the nation of Israel, are certainly not under the law.

So the only thing we as Gentiles can do is defer to the New Testament, to discover what Jesus and the Apostles instructed us to do about observing the Sabbath today, under the New Covenant.

I have asked this brother to provide us with New Testament scriptures that instruct us how to observe the Sabbath, as well as giving us some practical examples from his own life, how he himself observes the Sabbath.

So far he refuses to do so.

If there was commandment from the Lord and the Apostles with specific instructions for the Church, as to how to observe the Sabbath then I would be at the front of the line, teaching and doing those very things.

What we do have is this:

23 They wrote this letter by them:

The apostles, the elders, and the brethren,

To the brethren who are of the Gentiles in Antioch, Syria, and Cilicia:

Greetings.

24 Since we have heard that some who went out from us have troubled you with words, unsettling your souls, saying, “You must be circumcised and keep the law” —to whom we gave no such commandment— 25 it seemed good to us, being assembled with one accord, to send chosen men to you with our beloved Barnabas and Paul, 26 men who have risked their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. 27 We have therefore sent Judas and Silas, who will also report the same things by word of mouth. 28 For it seemed good to the Holy Spirit, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things: 29 that you abstain from things offered to idols, from blood, from things strangled, and from sexual immorality. If you keep yourselves from these, you will do well. Farewell. Acts 15:24-29

Here is the perfect opportunity to bring clarity to this matter with all the Apostles and elders gathered together in Jerusalem, no less, dealing with this subject about the law of Moses and Gentiles.

Not one reference or even a hint about the Sabbath.

The letter that went out from Jerusalem, to all the Churches in other nations, and not one single word about the Sabbath.

The Sabbath is sooooooo important to our eternal life, yet all of the ruling government of God’s kingdom on earth, the Apostles, including the very man who was responsible for establishing Gentile Churches, Paul, together with the elders in Jerusalem and they never mention the Sabbath.

Here is what the man who was commissioned by Jesus Christ, to bring the Gospel to the Gentiles and make disciples from among them, has to teach us about observing the Sabbath, under the New Covenant.

16 So let no one judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a festival or a new moon or sabbaths, 17 which are a shadow of things to come, but the substance is of Christ. 18 Let no one cheat you of your reward, taking delight in false humility and worship of angels, intruding into those things which he has not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind, 19 and not holding fast to the Head, from whom all the body, nourished and knit together by joints and ligaments, grows with the increase that is from God.

20 Therefore, if you died with Christ from the basic principles of the world, why, as though living in the world, do you subject yourselves to regulations— 21 “Do not touch, do not taste, do not handle,” 22 which all concern things which perish with the using—according to the commandments and doctrines of men? 23 These things indeed have an appearance of wisdom in self-imposed religion, false humility, and neglect of the body, but are of no value against the indulgence of the flesh. Colossians 2:16-23

  • So let no one judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a festival or a new moon or sabbaths, which are a shadow of things to come, but the substance is of Christ.

This statement deals with all Sabbaths as well as the feast days which were implemented to point the children of Israel to Christ.

The Lord and Paul is more concerned with them dealing with continuing in Christ and the turning them from immortality. The more weightier matters of God’s kingdom.

  • and not holding fast to the Head, from whom all the body, nourished and knit together by joints and ligaments, grows with the increase that is from God.
  • but are of no value against the indulgence of the flesh.

Turning Gentiles from practicing the works of the flesh, to practicing righteousness was the priority then and now.

Paul called this faith working through love.

For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision avails anything, but faith working through love. Galatians 5:6

If circumcisiom was to be irrelevant, which was the only way to be allowed into the nation of Israel to even begin to practice the law of Moses, then what does that have to say about the Sabbath, which came 430 years later on?

Exactly. I'd be right behind you in line if there was a clear call to observe the Sabbath as given in the Mosaic law.

So let no one judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a festival or a new moon or sabbaths, which are a shadow of things to come, but the substance is of Christ.
The Lord and Paul is more concerned with them dealing with continuing in Christ and the turning them from immortality. The more weightier matters of God’s kingdom.

These two quotes sum up the whole of the argument in my view.

What was Christ Commandments? (John 15:11-14; 17) (1 John 3:1-24) His commandments were to believe in Him and to love one another as He has loved us.

Hello Douglas,

Nice to see you again and thanks for sharing your thoughts. maybe some simple questions may help with the conversation here.

1. What does it mean in your view to BELIEVE in Jesus and to LOVE as he first LOVED us?
2. If God asks us to do something and we do not do it are we BELIEVING God or NOT BELIEVING God?
3. What is the CONTEXT of 1 John 3:23-24 talking about (Focus on 1 John 3:3-15)?

Study the Scriptures. But then, you went right back under the law?

Indded we should study to show ourselves approved correctly dividing the word of truth. To be "UNDER the LAW" mean to be guilty before God of breaking it.

Romans 3
19,
Now we know that what things soever the law said, it said to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.
20, Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.

Many teach a false Gospel that being saved by GRACE through FAITH is a liscence to SIN and we are saved IN SIN and not FROM sin. Yet God's Word teaches that there is a specific purpose to GRACE and FAITH.

Romans 1
5,
By whom we have received GRACE and apostleship, FOR OBEDIENCE TO THE FAITH among all nations, for his name.

Romans 6
1,
What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. 2, How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?

Romans 3
31,
Do we then ABOLISH THE LAW THROUGH FAITH? GOD FORBID: YES, WE ESTABLISH THE LAW.

Yes indeed we should study the scriptures.

The Sabbath was never a day of worship in it's command, it was a day of rest for man and beast. To keep the Sabbath as it was written in the Mosaic Law is below.

Actually this is correct and not correct. The 4th Commandment is God's LAW written and spoken by God himself to his people and is one of the 10 Commandments. It is different to the Mosaic book of the COVANANT and had a different purpose to the Mosaic laws for remission of SIN.

Are you familiar with what makes up the OLD Covenant and what the purposes of God's LAW (10 Commandments) were and the Mosaic book of the COVENANT? Do you know why God commanded that the 10 Commandments and the Mosaic book of the law were to be separated in the Ark of the COVENANT? This might also help the discussion of the topic here if your interested.

God's 4th Commandments has it's origin in the creation week and was part of a FINSIHED work BEFORE SIN entered into the world. It was made for mankind and Jesus is the LORD of the Sabbath which according to scripture in the "LORDS DAY" (Gen 2:1-3; Mark 2:27-28; Matt 12:8).

GOD'S 4th COMMANDMENT

Origin....

Genesis 2
1,
Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.
2, And ON THE SEVENTH DAY God ended his work which he had made; and he RESTED ON THE SEVENTH DAY from all his work which he had made.
3, And GOD BLESSED THE SEVENTH DAY, and made it HOLY <the 7th day>: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.

4th Commandment of the 10 that gives a KNOWLEDGE OF SIN and RIGHTEOUSNESS (Romans 3:20; Ps 119:172)

Exodus 20
8, Remember the
SABBATH DAY , to KEEP IT HOLY. <Why?> Because God made it Holy for mankind and commands us to keep it as a Holy day; He knew his professed people would forget it)
9, Six days shalt thou labor, and do all thy work:
10, But the SEVENTH DAY IS THE SABBATH of the LORD thy God : in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: <WHY>
11, For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the SEVENTH DAY : wherefore the LORD BLESSED THE SABBATH, and HALLOWED IT

Breaking God's 4th Commandment is SIN just like breaking ANY of the 10 Commandments. SIN will keep ALL who practice it out of God's KINGDOM.

What does Jesus say?....

Mark 2
27,
And he said unto them, THE SABBATH WAS MADE FOR MAN, and not man for the Sabbath.

The Sabbath was made for WHO? The Sabbath was made for MAN. So here we have the God of creation telling us why the 7th Day was made a Holy day. It was made for MANKIND

Matthew 12
8,
For the Son of man IS LORD EVEN OF THE SABBATH DAY.

The SABBATH DAY = the "LORDS DAY"

The Sabbath is a day of REST and WORSHIP to honor the God of creation (Jesus)

Isaiah 58
13,
If you turn away your foot from the sabbath, from doing your pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the LORD, honorable; and shall honor him, not doing your own ways, nor finding your own pleasure, nor speaking your own words:
14, Then shall you delight yourself in the LORD; and I will cause you to ride on the high places of the earth, and feed you with the heritage of Jacob your father: for the mouth of the LORD has spoken it.

Indeed we should BELIEVE the WORD of GOD and FOLLOW it. SIN is breaking God's COMMANDMENTS and those who CONTINUE in KNOWN SIN will NOT enter the KINGDOM of HEAVEN.

..................

This is the flaw in your argument. You are trying to prove a positive with an argument from silence.
