Bible Study JESUS OUR EXAMPLE and the APOSTLES OBEYED GOD'S LAW and the SABBATH!

SOME QUESTIONS ON THE SABBATH

Are you able to answer these questions....................

1. That God's 4th commandments 7th day Sabbath has been abolished?

2. That Jesus is a Sabbath?

3. The Sabbath (seventh day) was ever changed from the seventh to the first day of the week?

4. Where we are told to keep the first day of the week holy?

5. Where the first day of the week (Sunday) is ever called a holy day?

6. That says that Jesus ever kept the first day (Sunday)?

7. That tells us to keep the first day in honour of the resurrection of Christ?

8. Where the first day is ever given any sacred name?

9. That affirms that any of the apostles ever kept the first day as the Sabbath?

10. From any apostolic writings that authorizes Sunday observance as the Sabbath of God?

11. Where we are told not to work on the first day of the week?

12. That says the seventh day is no longer God's Sabbath day?

13. That says the seventh day Sabbath is ABOLISHED?

14. Where the apostles ever taught any convert to keep the first day of the week as a Sabbath?

15. Where the first day was ever appointed to be kept as the Lord's Day?

16. Where the first day of the week is ever called the Lord's Day?

17. That says that the first day of the week was ever sanctified and hallowed as a day of rest?

18. That says that the Father or the Son (Jesus) rested on the first day of the week?

19. That says that Jesus, Paul or any other of the apostles taught anyone to observe the first day of the week as the Sabbath?

20. That calls the seventh day the “Jewish Sabbath” or one text that calls Sunday the “Christian Sabbath”?

21. Telling man to keep the first day of the week holy or to worship or rest on the first day of the week?

22. Authorizing anyone to set aside God's Sabbath and observe any other day?

23. Showing any of the apostles keeping the first day of the week as the Sabbath?

24. Authorizing someone to set aside the fourth Commandment and observe any other day of the week?

25. Where any apostle taught us to keep the first day of the week as the Sabbath?

26. Declaring that the seventh day is no longer the Eternal Sabbath day?

27. Where Sunday is now appointed to be kept as the New Testament Sabbath or holy day?

If you cannot answer any of the above, who should we obey God or man? Something to seriously pray about my friend.

...........................

God's 4th commandment is one of the ten (Exodus 20:8-11) If we knowingly break it when God asks us not to we stand guilty before God of committing sin (James 2:8-12). If we do not seek him in repentance and forgiveness we are in danger of the Judgement (Hebrews 10:26-27)

If we brake any of God's commandments it is showing we do not LOVE God or our fellow man...

Thie is why Jesus says....... If you LOVE me keep my COMMANDMENTS (John 14:15;15:10)

In times of ignorance God winks at but now calls all men every where to REPENT for the KINGDOM of HEAVEN is at HAND (Acts 17:30-31)

Jesus in your view is not our example who kept the Sabbath

He is.

And He explained clearly to us, that His Father and Him had continued to work since they created the heavens and the earth.

  • My Father has been working until now, and I have been working.”

16 For this reason the Jews persecuted Jesus, and sought to kill Him, because He had done these things on the Sabbath. 17 But Jesus answered them, “My Father has been working until now, and I have been working.” John 5:16-17

The seventh day points to the rest to come, for the people of God.

  • There remains therefore a rest for the people of God. Hebrews 4:9

So let no one judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a festival or a new moon or sabbaths, which are a shadow of things to come, but the substance is of Christ.
Colossians 2:16-17

All of us are to be conformed to the image of the Son.

We are being transformed into His image, and are to grow up into Him, to the fullness and stature of a perfect man.

We are to do the works, that He did.

Do you believe this means we are to attend a synagogue on Saturday’s?

That God's 4th commandments 7th day Sabbath has been abolished?

Yes, Observing the Sabbath according to the law of Moses has been abolished.

  • having abolished in His flesh the enmity, that is, the law of commandments contained in ordinances,

14 For He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of separation, 15 having abolished in His flesh the enmity, that is, the law of commandments contained in ordinances, so as to create in Himself one new man from the two, thus making peace, Ephesians 2:14-15

No longer does God’s people put to death those who violate the Sabbath, because the law of commandments contained in ordinances, of the law of Moses has been abolished in His flesh, having been nailed to the cross.

  • He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross.

having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross.
Colossians 2:14

Now all that is left for you to do, is give us the New Testament scriptures that instruct and direct us, how we as the Church are to observe the Sabbath under the New Covenant.

Remember to reconcile this verse into your answer.

14 having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. 15 Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it. 16 So let no one judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a festival or a new moon or sabbaths, 17 which are a shadow of things to come, but the substance is of Christ. Colossians 2:14-17

  • having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us
  • So let no one judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a festival or a new moon or sabbaths,

Actually no Hebrews 4 is talking about God's Sabbath....

Yes it’s about the rest to come.

  • For we who have believed do enter that rest...

Those who are believers, do enter that rest to come through faith in Him.

  • There remains therefore a rest for the people of God.

8 For if Joshua had given them rest, then He would not afterward have spoken of another day. 9 There remains therefore a rest for the people of God. 10 For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His.
11 Let us therefore be diligent to enter that rest, lest anyone fall according to the same example of disobedience. Hebrews 4:8-11

Are you trying to insinuate that all this somehow means, we as believers are supposed to attend a synagogue on Saturday?

Well my friend your last three posts makes no sense whatsoever and have not addressed any of the scriptures I posted earlier. If you disagree with that I have posted then please please adress the posts and scripture that disagree with you. If you cannot it is ok simply BLEIVE GOD'S Word and follow him who loves you.

You asked what do the scriptures teach about the Sabbath in the NEW Testament. You said there is none. I posted scripture about what the NEW Testament teaches on the Sabbath and posted the following after you rejected all the scriptures I posted.

It seems it is true in your view......

Jesus did not teach that it is lawful to do GOOD on the Sabbath? (Matt 12:1-8; 10-12; 24:20; Mark 3:1-5; Luke 6:1-10; 13:14-16; 14:1-5; John 7:22-23; 9:14; Mark 1:21; Mark 6:2; Luke 4:16; 31; Luke 14:1; 23:56)

Jesus in your view did not teach that God's Sabbath was made for man kind and not man for the Sabbath rebuking the tradtions of the Jew in regards to their interpretation around Sabbath keeping? (Mark 2:27-28; Matthew 12:8)

Jesus in your view, did not teach that he was the maker and creator of the Sabbath and the God of creation? (Hebrews 1:2; John 1:1-3; 14; Ephesians 3:9; Colossians 1:16-17; Mark 2:27)

Jesus in your view is not our example who kept the Sabbath as well as all those who followed him (Matt 12:1-8; 10-12; 24:20; Mark 3:1-5; Luke 6:1-10; 13:14-16; 14:1-5; John 7:22-23; 9:14; Mark 1:21; Mark 6:2; Luke 4:16; 31; Luke 14:1; 23:56; John 2:6; Matt 16:24; Acts 13:14; 13:27; 13:44; 15:21; 16:13; 17:2; 18:4; Rev 1:10)

It is hard to see when your eyes are closed.

In your view Jesus was lying when he said those that break God's Commandments and teach others to do so will not enter God's Kingdom?

In your view Jesus was lying when he said not a jot or tittle will pass from God's LAW until heaven and earth pass away? Now we havent even started on the Aposltes then again if you do not BELIEVE Jesus how will you BELIEVE his discples?

It seems you believe Jesus and the Apostles are all lying and the Bible is not true?

You teach others to brake God's Commandments this is something Jesus and the Apostles NEVER did.

Those who do such things do not enter into God's KINGDOM. This is sad for you my friend. Jesus is calling you my friend but you do not hear him. When your lamp has gone out how can you find your way when the road is dark and narrow is the way? God's Sheep hear his Voice.

..................

In times of ignorance God winks at but now ,<when a KNOWLEDGE of the truth has come> calls all men everywhere to REPENT (FOLLOW) (Acts 17:30-31).

There is not one scripture in all of God's Word that says that God's 4th Commandment is now ABOLISHED and we are now commanded to KEEP Sunday as a Holy day.

Sunday worship is a tradition and teaching of man that has lead many to break the commandments of God. Jesus says that if we follow the traditions of man that break the commandments of God we are not following God (Matthew 15:3-9)

Who should we follow the teachings and traditions of men or the Word of God? Who should we believe the Words of men or the Word of God?

May God bless you as you seek him through His Word.

.................

PS you quote COL 2:16-17 but ignore all the scripture that disagrees with your interpretation of one scripture posted here....

POST # 107; POST # 108; POST # 109; POST # 110; POST # 112 . Yep alot of scripture that disagrees with you. It is ok if you cannot respond to anything above I do no tthink you would anyway. Maybe you can pray about it at home.

Hope this helps.

There is more then the once a week Sabbath.. if one does keep them all doesn't the Word say one is guilty of all

Lev 23:33 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
Lev 23:34 Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, The fifteenth day of this seventh month shall be the feast of tabernacles for seven days unto the LORD.
Lev 23:35 On the first day shall be an holy convocation: ye shall do no servile work therein

Hi Reba nice to see you and great question. You are correct, Leviticus 23 mentions the "SPECIAL" Sabbaths (not the 7th day weekly; 4th Commandment) of the annual Jewish festivals that can fall on any day of the week (not only the 7th day). These "special" annual Sabbaths had a different purpose to God's 4th Commandment as they were attached to different annual festivals under the OLD Covenant.

1. The ceremonial Sabbath of the law of Moses is a special Sabbath and also uses a different Hebrew Word called meaning H7677 שׁבּתון shabbâthôn shab-baw-thone' From H7676; a sabbatism or special holiday: - rest, sabbath. This sabbath can fall on any day of the seek and is only used in the annual Jewish festivals of Feasts of Trumpets (Lev 23:24) or Day of Atonement (Lev 23:32 or Feast of Booths (Lev 23:39). These feasts are NOT fulfilled and Shadows of things to come Col 2 v17 (e.g. 2nd coming, close of probation and judgement and God's people saved from their temporary dwelling on earth to the earth made new) NOTE: Col v17, Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ. It is NOT fulfilled and has NOT finished and IS to COME. These are temporary Shadow Sabbaths showing the plan of salvation associated with the OLD covenant for remission of sin through animal sacrifices. These are Shadow laws pointing to Jesus in the NEW Covenant.

2. God's 4th commandment Sabbath which is one of the 10 commandments (Exodus 20:8-11). The Hebrew word use here for Sabbath has a DIFFERENT Hebrew word used compared to the ceremonial Sabbath of H7677. The Hebrew Word used here is H7676 and means H7676 שַׁבָּת shabbath (shab-bawth') n-e.1. intermission, a period of temporary rest.2. (specifically) the Sabbath, the seventh day being the day of rest. [intensive from H7673]KJV: (+ every) sabbath. Root(s): H7673. The root word comes from H7673 which comes from the creation week of Genesis 2:1-3 and means shabath (shaw-ɓath') v.to repose, i.e. to cease from exertion.KJV: (cause to, let, make to) cease, celebrate, cause (make) to fail, keep (sabbath), suffer to be lacking, leave, put away (down), (make to) rest, rid, still, take away.

This is God's Sabbath it is a memorial of creation and part of a FINISHED WORK BEFORE SIN entered the WORLD. If it is part of a FINISHED work BEFORE SIN then it cannot be a part of the plan of salvation because it was BEFORE the fall of mankind. Just like all the other 10 commandments God's Word says they are FOREVER and the very standard of SIN and RIGHTEOUSNESS and the JUDGEMENT to come.

The Law of God (10 commandments) which includes the 4th commandment is the work of God (Exodus 32:16) whatsoever God does is FOREVER nothing can be added to it or taken away (Ecclesiastes 3:14)

That is the difference between the ceremonial special Sabbaths that are shadows of things to come written in ordinances in the book of Moses and God's 4th commandment which God's Word says is FOREVER and why we no longer need to keep these today.

Hope this helps thanks for sharing and the great question. May God bless you as you continue to seek him through His Word.

You are promoting non-Biblical teaching.
Gentiles are not required to keep the Sabbath. (Acts 15)
Sabatarianism is NOT historic Christianity.

Seems i remember reading about keeping the lots of things for ever ... Your teaching falls flat .. as you pick and choose what you believe needs to be observed while condemning those who do the same as you..

You are promoting non-Biblical teaching.

Well that is not true. How can the Sabbath be a non-biblical teaching when it is all through both the OLD and NEW Testament and we will continue to keep it in the NEW EARTH? (Isaiah 66:22-23)

Gentiles are not required to keep the Sabbath. (Acts 15)

That is not true either. All through the book of Acts we see Paul keeping God's Sabbath with both Jews and Gentile wantnig to learn about God. (Acts 13:42-44)

Sabatarianism is NOT historic Christianity.

You may need to read more in History. Already answered here with only a few references (Linked)

Hope this help. May God' Bless you as you seek him through His Word.

To all posting here in Bible Study this is not a forum for debate ... the fine line between debate ,discussion and arguing is being crossed...

I'm not a mod here and I'm not posting as one. I'm having trouble however in seeing this as a Bible study. It seems it's more like someone teaching or promoting a particular view. In this case, observing the Sabbath.

I find the entire thread confusing. When I have conversations about a particular thing, I have it in bite size pieces. What I'm seeing here are posts that are full course meals!

I wish that points being made were more pithy and that we'd focus on smaller points and then move on to the next. The bigger picture would emerge from there.

I don't know what to make of this thread but I've been considering the Sabbath from God's perspective. It seems to me God knows that we need a day of rest. Not just to regroup our thoughts and bring it back to Him, but to rest our physical bodies and give our minds a rest too. We need Spiritual refreshing too!

I don't observe an official Sabbath, but I do take one day where I don't go crazy with working. I might put a few dishes in the dish washer but I don't vacuum and dust the whole house. (I'm retired now). I take the day to rest. I may read, or even nap. I also may go on a walk (if the sun would only come out!).

Still, I am exploring this idea of the Sabbath more now and am open to understanding it more deeply.

Hope that all makes sense

Well that is not true. How can the Sabbath be a non-biblical teaching when it is all through both the OLD and NEW Testament and we will continue to keep it in the NEW EARTH? (Isaiah 66:22-23)
I am going to try once more to show you that you are completely mistaken.

(1)
Isa 66:22-23 (Often quoted to me by 7th Day Adventists with the same lack of understanding of language as you have demonstrated))
“For as the new heavens and the new earth
Which I will make shall remain before Me,” says the LORD,
“So shall your descendants and your name remain.
And it shall come to pass
That from one New Moon to another,
And from one Sabbath to another,
All flesh shall come to worship before Me,” says the LORD.

"From one Sabbath to another" is a restatement of the concept of "from one New Moon to another."
The repetition of the concept of "from one to another" is used to emphasize the point.
And the point is NOT that "all flesh" will worship before God on EACH Sabbath but "every day from one Sabbath to another." That includes every day in between and NOT just the Sabbaths.
IN the New Earth, all of mankind will worship God just as the angels do now: 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year. NOT JUST ON THE SABBATHS.
(2)
Sabbath worship is very definitely NOT "all through both the OLD and NEW Testament".
The exact opposite is the case.
IN chapter 15 of Acts (to which I have referred you at least twice) Gentile believers are specifically told that they are not required to be circumcised and keep the Law (which includes the Sabbath).

Saying that Christians are required to keep the Law you contradict the express statement of scripture.
That is the very definition of heresy.

Here is the word of God once more.

Act 15:23-29
They wrote this letter by them:

The apostles, the elders, and the brethren,
To the brethren who are of the Gentiles in Antioch, Syria, and Cilicia:

Greetings.

Since we have heard that some who went out from us have troubled you with words, unsettling your souls, saying, “You must be circumcised and keep the law”—to whom we gave no such commandment—it seemed good to us, being assembled with one accord, to send chosen men to you with our beloved Barnabas and Paul, men who have risked their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. We have therefore sent Judas and Silas, who will also report the same things by word of mouth.

For it seemed good to the Holy Spirit, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things:
that you abstain from things offered to idols,
from blood,
from things strangled,
and from sexual immorality.
If you keep yourselves from these, you will do well.

Farewell.

So the Church leaders at Jerusalem, including Peter, John, James the brother of the Lord, wrote a letter to the Gentile believers telling them that they are NOT required to keep the Sabbath.

Also, Paul told the church at Colossae; "let no one judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a festival or a new moon or sabbaths," (Col 2:16)

Are you able to answer these questions....................

1. That God's 4th commandments 7th day Sabbath has been abolished?
It's not abolished. Jews under the Law of Moses are still to keep the Sabbath.
2. That Jesus is a Sabbath?
Jesus is God, not a Sabbath.
3. The Sabbath (seventh day) was ever changed from the seventh to the first day of the week?
I assume you meant "Never" instead of "ever."
Of course it wasn't changed. It's still the Law for Jews. Do no work on the Sabbath.
Christians meet on the first day of the week because that's the day that Jesus arose and completed His work of defeating death thus saving all mankind from permanent, physical death.
4. Where we are told to keep the first day of the week holy?
We don't "keep it holy" per the instructions in the Law.
On the 1st day of the week, Sunday, when Jesus rose from the dead, we gather to celebrate His victory over death by which He saved us.
5. Where the first day of the week (Sunday) is ever called a holy day?
No where, as far as I know.

Still, I am exploring this idea of the Sabbath more now and am open to understanding it more deeply.

Hope that all makes sense

Hi Papa Zoom,

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Sorry if my posts have been a little long for you. My background I guess when I am studying God's Word is to share as much scripture on a topic as possible so people have as much information in the scriptures to make an intelligent decision on the topic being discussed.

I am also a member of a few other forums. Christian Chat and also the other Chrsitain Forums. At these sites what we tend to do is start with a complete topic or bible study (unrestricted) then discuss the topic within the thread. Thanks for your thoughts here I wish to be a good member and abide by the TOS and will seek to do so. I really appreciate your feedback as well.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, I really appreciated them.

I thought loving God and one another was the law. And the greatest in life was love.

Hi kiwidan BIG WELCOME here, from your near neighbor. You are absolutly correct. LOVE is indeed the fulfilling (doing) of God's LAW in those who BELIEVE the scritpures

Romans 13
8,
Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loves another has fulfilled the law.
9, For this, You shall not commit adultery, You shall not kill, You shall not steal, You shall not bear false witness, You shall not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, You shall love your neighbor as yourself.
10, Love works no ill to his neighbor: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.

Appreciate your points Dan, this is why Jesus says; If you LOVE me keep my Commandments (John 14:15)

May God bless you as you seek him through His Word
