jobs that a christian shouldn't do

I'm curious what jobs should a christian not do.

I think these careers should be avoided

bartending
any of the nightclubs jobs( were adults no need to lists)
casinos

what are your opinions

Perhaps it will soon be difficult for Christians even to be pastors --- when they are required by law to perform "marriage cermonies" to unite homosexual couples. Or what will probably be required sooner ---- that religious leaders not speak against homosexual practice in the pulpit, on the basis that it is "hate speech".

So obviously you dont believe in Christians being in the Army, while i see ur point , that should be a personal decision not a mandate as nowhere in the bible supports. BTW there are no non combat jobs in the army save chaplains, all others jobs do carry weapons. Even medics, they can defend themselves, but they also cant be armed when with a line unit( while on patrol). A medical unit when by itself is able to set up defensive positions, what a bout police.

That's not what I inquired about. I inquired about positions in the army which require a Christian to kill. There have been many non-resistant Christians in the army who have served in the medical field to save lives rather than to destroy them.

Yes there are but even docs to carry when allowed in the geneva convention, i haved served recently in Afghanstan, docs do carry.no war has actually been a conventional one in a while not even nam.
That war was assymetrical as well, no "fronts or rear areas" as well.I learned that through a nam vet recently.

Christians can be in the military, in any position, period, but that's not the point of the thread.......

Drunkiness is a sin, why would you encourage that, kind of a like a christian stripper, the casino one is a grey area, beacuse gambling to is addicting, and there's a verse on gambling, but i'm not sure

well yes, drunkeness is a sin. you're not encouraging it. In fact if, as a bartender you conclude that a patron is drunk, you can by law refuse to give them any more alcohol. In Australia that's a bartender's responsibility and I think it's a law as well.


EDIT: In fact, bartenders have to pass a Responsible Service to Alcohol course to get their liscence. They're actually not allowed by law to serve you alcohol if they think your are intoxicated.

In america they have a similiar law but in aa(alcoholic anomynos) they give u a white chip as token to your journey to sobriety, an alcoholic can turn that card in any bar for a free round cause the bartenders knows that he or she will be back to spend far more, in New Orleans while underage drinking is illegal on bourbon street that quite common place, so if you are christian how many bars or clubs are u going to work, btw to get a dui in most states the limit .08 any many drunks can function at that level so how are u going to tell all the time, u will with expereince but as a christian do u want to live with that fact that u indirectly are a cause of a dui or accident.

Yes, I know what you're talking about, and I have been in a bar/nightclub. (probably illegally, but that's beside the point).
The point is that yes there are temptations, but I can't see anywhere in the Bible that it even hints that it is wrong to work in that kind of envionrment as a bartender.

If I was a bartender and I happened not to spot someone who was drunk, and gave them more alcohol and that reslted in them getting killed in a car accident, then of course I would be sad and I would probably be indrectly a cause for the accident. But I would much rather that happening that killing someone if I was in the army. So I see your point, but I believe that's more the case in other lines of work, I'm sure you've got experiences with that.

In the military, and you have a choice, if the enemy( i wish i could use the h word here) is shooting at you, you kill him/her, if the locals aren't a threat you don't shoot. In Iraq/afghanistan most of the time it's that simple, it get's iffy when u are shot at from a distance, ie rpg, ied, and sniped. most of time u get out of the area as quicly as possible. jason

I never once thought of it as disobeying God though..
I mean, they have wars in the bible.. and yes, we all carry weapons..
We don't want to use it, but if we have to.. we will..

as a vet i have from time to time thought that and found peace, but some have chosen not to serve and there's no commandment not to be in the army or any other branch, pray and seek him for your answer, and if u know that its ur calling that let know man or woman say otherwise,

and also, when I get out of the army.. I'm moving to Manhattan for college..
I was thinking about trying to be a waitress/bartender while I am in college
so I could work less and hopefully make more money while I focus on school..
not sure what I am going to do yet
