Joel Osteen, good or bad

Last post from me on this. Since we started with Joel and one of his biggest fans these days, I leave you with her understanding of Christ, which I think is very much Joel's as well.

Looking at the big post, I might be leaning toward the former.

Well then I guess I'll have to go with being the former then, knowing who owns the idol box.

Not to mention Jude 1:3-4.

TBN's logo has a mix of symbolism from OTO and Prince Charles' emblem. Symbolism is key. However, TBN also promotes the "little gods" doctrine teaching that we are little gods.

Yet, psalm 100 says "know ye that the LORD he is God, it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves"

"I am a Christian I can show you how to be one BUT IT IS NOT REQUIRED" - Oprah
"I have respect for ALLLLLLLLLLLL faiths" - Oprah
"there is a force energy consciousness divine thread, I believe, that connects all spiritually to all of us to something greater than ourselves." -Oprah

Is it just me, or can you just see twisted deceit in her eyes?

Some might find this helpful.

I appreciate the thought but.....
These men are entitled to their own opinions and they have the right to voice it. To me at the best that is what it is opinion. There was short blip at the beginning that was actually Joel speaking himself, that I could find.
I don't judge others by someones opinions of them.

If you can find something of Joel himself preaching false teachings I'd be more than interested to listen.
But I too had to turn this off, their joking attitude when discussing this turned me off.

Sure. There are many other resources that you might find more objective. Here is one.

I did a search to see if Osteen actually claims to preach the prosperity gospel and found an interview where he says that he doesn't really know what it is. I did find an interview on CNN where he said this.....

Osteen, when asked about Romney's faith, said the former Massachusetts governor is indeed a Christian – which is a similar statement to the one he made in January.
"When I hear Mitt Romney say that he believes that Jesus is the Son of God – that he's the Christ, raised from the dead, that he's his Savior – that's good enough for me," said Osteen.
The Texas pastor did say that the Mormon faith was "not traditional Christianity," but that Mormonism still falls under the umbrella of Christian tenets. "Mormonism is a little different, but I still see them as brothers in Christ," said Osteen.

Joyce Meyer is a false teacher. She take a huge amount of money from her followers. She travels in a private jet and has several multi million dollar homes.
Here is more on her teachings
http://carm.org/joyce-meyer

Just to be fair, this teaching, it seems to me Joyce has corrected that teaching and publically admitted she got it wrong.
Not positive about that.
If I right about that, that is the honorable thing to do.

Danus, No Joel didn't tell the story of the Prodigal Son and he wasn't teaching that story and never said he was.
He used part of the story in a very effective way to show how sometimes a parent should let their child come to their senses rather than coddling them, let them learn by their mistakes and grow up. And that it was OK to do that as the father in the story did. He didn't misquote anything, he didn't tell that part incorrectly. But the narrator of the video didn't like it because he didn't preach the whole story. Well, the whole story was not relevant to what his sermon was about. That parable is really about the Jews but there are many good points in that story. Joel just use one of them.

Now the other one you posted I thought Matt 9 was bad.
However, with Abraham he was teaching about having faith and believing what God says.
What if Abraham had not believed God, would it have had anyway or would God have used someone else to fulfill His plan? The Bible does not say either way.
But the man on this video says God would have made it happen anyway. Now I think that man took liberties with the scripture when he said that. That is his opinion. His opinion did not agree with Joel's opinion.
He admits that Joel got 1John right. But then he cuts off Joel and starts talking about how other preachers miss use that verse. What has that got to do with what Joel said.

I am not a Joel Osteen fan. Because I like to dig into God's word. But I haven't seen anything that screams false teacher like some make out. Fluff yes.

And I listened to Hank about JPrince. I happened to know this teaching and understand it. But the big thing Hank was upset about is JP says the Holy Spirit doesn't convict a believer of sin. And I can't find any scripture that says the Holy Spirit convicts the believer of sin. Where is it?

Did anyone notice that Joel Osteen believes that Mormons are Christians? I don't know what could be more obvious than this to show he is a false teacher? I posted the link the where I got this info this time.

What Joel is not teaching is the Gospel.

As Christians we are to teach the Gospel, the story of Christ and the good news of salvation, not little sound bites of what seem like good advice. We are not to tray from the words of Christ and use them to make up our own message.

We are to take our condition as sinners seriously and the message of salvation seriously.

We're certainly not called to be seek wealth and comfort and serve ourselves on earth, yet that is the overarching message of Joel Olsteen. That matches the message of this fallen world and that's why so many are attracted to it. "It's OK to be gay God loves you"; it's OK to seek riches and be comfortable; God loves you and He wants you to be happy" It's OK to follow other religions or have your own way of thinking about God because they all lead to God, and God loves you and wants you to know him on your own terms".............this is what Joel Olsteen preaches, teaches and seems to also practice.

I would urge you to look deeper; to not just accept something because it sounds like its coming form a nice well meaning guy who says he likes Jesus. The devil is a deceiver; he will come to you not as your enemy, but your friend and he will strive to gain your trust and favor. To recognize it, we need to know Gods truth. Only then can we know the difference.
God bless.

I haven't listened to Joel Osteen enough to give a fair assesment of his teachings, but I have Joyce Meyer. She does teach the Gospel...even if she is wrong about prosperity portion of it. This seems to be her vice and problem area, and in a way she really isn't terribly wrong about it because we see that quite a few honorable men of God do speak the Gospel and are also prosperous. The Lord does bless with prosperity certain individuals. Others He does not...I think it depends upon...the thoughts of God. Solomon was very blessed, and a lot of others with some being in modern times also. Others seem to stay in poverty and still be honorable men of God. Maybe that's just His plan for them?

I heard Joyce defending her decision to buy her 6M dollar airplane in a video...and she dropped the ball on it, long story short. BUT! That's between her and God, Even so, that doesn't invalidate her words in many other areas or make untruthful her messages at other times.

So what do we do with this? Because she (may be) wrong about the prosperity message, do we label her a false prophet, and stop listening to her and condemn her for it in all areas? Certainly not. We love her as a sister and rightly divide the truth for ourselves. Her salvific message is ok I think. She should not be condemned by people for having problems in some areas...we all do.

Prosperity preachers can make a good case for biblical prosperity. Tribulation and suffering also has good case going for it biblically. Which is true? Can both be true dependent upon God specific plan for specific individuals? This is where I'm at on it. And what is in the individuals heart and their skillset with money and the level of integrity and honor also.

For most, hard times and tribulation can be the only way to the Lord. It keeps them focused upon the Lord. Can a rich man enter into heaven? Almost impossible, but like the scripture says, with God all things are possible.

I personally have only listened to parts of Joel's messages a couple times but I found that I quickly got turned off to what he was preaching. At the time I didn't understand why I was turned off but only knew that I needed to stay away from him.

I think if everyone goes back to the OP and listen to what is said, you'd have to say Joel is on the right track these days.

He is a false teacher. That is incorrect. He is not on the right track. Those who think he is are decieved.I think many people are being deceived now by false teachers. It is going to get alot worse during the tribulation. These false teachers are just a stepping stone to the tribulation.
