Joel Osteen, good or bad

I don't think it's just about money, but that is one of the big problems for many because it provides shelter and food. But I do agree with you that love is the biggest need anywhere. :)

Thanks for your honest reply. And money can be a big problem in peoples life both too little and too much.

I reason I asked is I wondered about when we hear things that others say our minds very often hear what they say by what we are thinking and that may not be what they are referring to at all. So unless they give details we really don't know. In this case it may include money as well as many other things, which is what you said. :)

Joel Osteen is a very popular preacher with thousands attending his church. In order to have that many people, a pastor is compromising on the whole counsel of God. If he stuck with the Scriptures, teaching word for word, line upon line, precept upon precept, he would end up with maybe 200 people. His "feel good" messages are what has made him popular. He is leading people to the judgment of sinners....No, I don't like him as a preacher.

Here's another good one about how to be blessed!

It is important for a husband to understand that his words have tremendous power in his wife’s life. He needs to bless her with words. She’s given her life to love and care for him, to partner with him, to create a family together, to nurture his children. If he is always finding fault in something she’s doing, always putting her down, he will reap horrendous problems in his marriage and in his life. Moreover, many women today are depressed and feel emotionally abused because their husbands do not bless them with their words. One of the leading causes of emotional breakdowns among married women is the fact that women do not feel valued. One of the main reasons for that deficiency is because husbands are willfully or unwittingly withholding the words of approval women so desperately desire. If you want to see God do wonders in your marriage, start praising your spouse. Start appreciating and encouraging her. Every single day, a husband should tell his wife, “I love you. I appreciate you. You’re the best thing that ever happened to me.” A wife should do the same for her husband. Your relationship would improve immensely if you’d simply start speaking kind, positive words, blessing your spouse instead of cursing him or her.”

and I could post Chassidic jewish thought and it would be the same.

That's quite an accusation.
Can you give just one example of what he has said that causes you to believe he is leading people to eternal damnation?

Do you have a scripture that we are to judge teachers and stay away from them?

Where does it say that we need no man to teach us, but the Spirit will? Right here in 1 John...

1 John 2:27
27 But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him./
I'm glad you brought this verse up. Look at the context and you'll have the answer to the first question, as well as why you are incorrect about the second point.

The so-called prosperity gospel for one.
"Start calling yourself healed, happy, whole, blessed, and prosperous. Stop talking to God about how big your mountains are, and start talking to your mountains about how big your God is". Joel Osteen

Is this the type of thing you are talking about?
I happen to like it.
In fact, from now on, I'll use this to tell people who are down on themselves, to look up to what God can do for them.

Do you like it because it appeals to you or because it is what the Bible says?

Both.
If it only had meaning because it appealed to me then it would really be meaningless.
If it only had meaning because it was the Word of God, then you would be some sort of legalist being forced to obey it.
I guess that would be a dead Christianity.

If the Bible actually says those things, is that all it says about such things?

Mat 21:21 Jesus answered and said unto them, Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only do this which is done to the fig tree, but also if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; it shall be done.
Act 14:9 The same heard Paul speak: who stedfastly beholding him, and perceiving that he had faith to be healed,
Psa 144:15 O the happiness of the people that is thus, O the happiness of the people whose God is Jehovah!
Pro 22:9 He that hath a bountiful eye shall be blessed; for he giveth of his bread to the poor.

Notice the clarifications for prospering and be in health and how that can happen.

3Jn 1:2 Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.

Year before last I watched Joel every Sunday for a very long time. His messages were designed to promote the people to feel good about themselves. He would use a Scripture and then in his friendly way he would persuade his hearers to see how a bad idea (sin) effected their own lives. He would offer Salvation at the end of his message, but his message was lacking the meat of the Word. He offered milk over and over. His type of preaching does not equip believers with the necessary knowledge to live above real sin, real dedication to our Lord. There just seemed to be to much fluff.

But that isn't the entire truth, is it? That is just a small sample of all that the Bible says about such things. The prosperity gospel is a very harmful, false gospel.
