Did you know that......

1. The Trumpets in Revelation are Jewish in Nature?
2. In Judaism, the "Last Trump" is a reference to a specific feast day in the Jewish religious calendar?
3. In Judaism, there is a "First Trump" that is a reference for a specific feast day in the Jewish religious calendar?
4. In Judaism, it is taught that there will be 7 trumpets blown before the advent of the Messiah?
5. In Judaism, the "Great Trump" is a reference to another specific feast day in the Jewish religious calendar?
6. Separating the "last trump" feast day and the "great trump" feast day is a period of 7 days in which Jews review their past year repenting and atoning for their past sins?

Yup to all, Georges. Good work. 8-)

I didn't know, thanks.

How does this relate to the second coming vs. the glorious appearing?

What do you guys think of these quotes taken from messianic sites?

Quote: Rosh Hashanah is a Jewish Fest that is called the unknown day . In ancient times no man knew when it began. The new moon had to be spotted first by two witnesses, then the Temple would give the order to blow the Shofar Trumpet so all Israel would begin the festival. This trumpet was referred to as the Last Trump which is a Ram's horn. No one knew when it would be blown since spotting the thin silver moon low on the horizon was very difficult. This is why it is referred to as " the day no man know the day nor the hour in which it begins." This is what Jesus was referring too when he made the same statement. It is a Jewish idiom for Rosh Hashanah. It is sad how the churches teach this is literal and not a Jewish idiom that the Jews understand so well. It comes every year usually some time in September. This year Rosh Hashanah comes September 16th 2004

What is also very interesting is that when a Jewish man comes for his bride on an unknown day that she knows not, the best man blows the Shofar ( Last Trump ). The groom come unexpectedly to snatch his bride away and to take her to her father's house. Only when the father declared it was time for the son to snatch his bride away could the son go and get her. Only the Father knows when the time comes because he is the one that decides when. The son never knew when the father would declare the time. "But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only." Matt 24:36

Rosh Hashanah is also known as a time when the gates of heaven open wide and a time of resurrection. Rosh is also referred to as the shout and the awakening. In the past the Temple had to declare within a two day time frame when Rosh would begin by sounding the Trump of God. Today there is no Temple, so Jesus himself will have to come down and declare it while He will also come for His bride at the same time.

"For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout , with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words." 1Thes 4:16-18

"In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed." 1 Cor 15:52

Also Rosh Hashanah is a time of judgment against Israel. It is the most serious and sobering time of the year for Israel. First the Last Trump is blown and then the time of atonement begins. Because this day is the most solemn day in the year, it is known as "The Day."

This is when Israel fasts and repents before God before He judges them. Then a series of a silver trumpets sound while God's Judgment on Israel is poured out. The book of Revelation parallels the entire trumpet judgment to a tee. Before the time of judgment comes, the Last Trump is blown first . Then and only then can the trumpet judgments begin. When the Last Trump of God is blown, it is then the Bride of Christ is snatched away! Some argue that we cannot know when the Rapture comes. This true because we have to wait and see when Jesus will come with His best man (archangel) and sound the Last Trump.

Some also say, but the church has nothing to do with the Jewish feasts. Why is because the churches have totally stripped the churches of all it's Jewish roots! But the fact is that we have been grafted in. Because the churches have removed themselves from the Jewish root, the Post Tribulation doctrine has found rich fertile ground in which to grow. It grows well in the churches and denominations. So why study the feasts? "Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.

If the last trump is the Judgement of Israel according to the OT, how does that affect the Church?

Other points quoted:

  • The Torah was given to Israel with the sound of the shofar (Exodus [Shemot] 19:19).
Israel conquered in the battle of Jericho with the blast of the shofar (Joshua 6:20).
Israel will be advised of the advent of the Messiah with the sound of the shofar (Zechariah 9:14,16).
The shofar will be blown at the time of the ingathering of the exiles of Israel to their place (Isaiah [Yeshayahu] 27:13).
The shofar was blown to signal the assembly of the Israelites during war (Judges [Shoftim] 3:27; 2 Samuel 20:1).
The watchman who stood upon Jerusalem's walls blew the shofar (Ezekiel [Yechezekel] 33:3-6).
The shofar was blown at the start of the Jubilee year (Leviticus [Vayikra] 25:9).
The shofar is a reminder that G-d is sovereign (Psalm [Tehillim] 47:5).
The ram's horn, the shofar, is a reminder of Abraham's sacrifice of Isaac and God's provision of a ram as a substitute (Genesis [Bereishit] 22:13).
The shofar was blown to announce the beginning of festivals (Numbers [Bamidbar] 10:10). The shofar was blown to celebrate the new moon on Rosh HaShanah (Psalm 81:1-3).
The blowing of the shofar is a signal for the call to repentance (Isaiah [Yeshayahu] 58:1).
The blowing of the shofar ushers in the day of the L-rd (Joel 2:1).
The blowing of the shofar is sounded at the rapture of the believers and the resurrection of the dead (1 Thessalonians 4:16).
John was taken up to Heaven in the Book of Revelation by the sound of the shofar (Revelation 4:1).
Seven shofarim are sounded when G-d judges the earth during the tribulation (Revelation 8-9).
The shofar was used for the coronation of kings (1 Kings [Melachim] 1:34,39).

Other: (1) WRATH. Believers are not appointed unto wrath. We have been delivered from the wrath that is coining (see 1 Thess. 1:10). Although it is true that believers are delivered from the wrath of God which the ungodly will forever face in the lake of fire, Paul's focus in 1 Thessalonians 5 is upon the "day of the Lord" (verse 2-3), a very specific time when God's wrath will be poured out upon earth dwellers. This period of wrath is also described in Revelation chapters 6-19. It is also known as the greatest time of trouble or tribulation the world has ever known (Matt. 24:21). God has not appointed us to face this time of wrath. Instead we have an appointment to meet the Lord in the air prior to the unleashing of God's fury upon the earth.

(2) SALVATION. People obtain salvation the moment they believe on the Lord Jesus Christ (Acts 16:31), but the SALVATION spoken of by Paul in 1 Thessalonians 5:9 refers to the believer's final salvation when Christ comes for us to complete the great salvation which He began! Thus, instead of facing God's wrath being poured out on the earth, we will enjoy the consummation of our so-great salvation. What a comforting hope (verse 11 and compare 1 Thess. 4:18)!

This is where we (Prewrath) believe the catching up of Christ's ekklesia takes place. It is just prior to God's Wrath, The Day of the Lord, or, "The Day". Of course we believe this is more than one literal day. IMO, Scripture and signs in Scripture point to that event. Paul knew it; he knew Jewish festivals and customs well.

How does it affect the "church"?

1 Thess 5:9 For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,...

I'll read the link later. Thanks Jason.

Zola Levitt has been around for a long time....his Jewish background has obviously been an asset to his Christianity and Ministry. His TV shows are very informative. I enjoy his shows much more than his website....if at all possible you should check the TV shows out....he is usually on late at night, he may have a listing in his website concerning tv times in your area.

Anyway....here is a great Messianic Website to keep in your favorites...it is a great reference to have for feast day info etc. It is a free site. Read the chapters concerning Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, and Sukkot. You will be amazed at the prophetical connection these have.

Also about Rosh hashanah, it always falls on a new moon, invisible moon. One of the ways Jesus returns is in darkness, like a thief in the night...

I believe Jesus begins His second work in darkness to be revealed later on at Tabernacles, after fulfilling Atonement as well. (the calf and the goat's blood sprinkled on the mercy seat)...

There are ten significant trumpet voices mentioned in the New Testament regarding the Lord's second coming. The trumpet voice sound that the Lord uses is described as the voice of the archangel and trumpet of God. This is a unique voice that sounds like a trumpet and at the same time contains audible speech that can be understood. [1 Thessalonians 4:16] [Revelation 1:10-11, 4:1]

Two of these herald communication for the Church. The first one is heard by John in Revelation 1:10 and precedes his writing of the things he has seen and that are related to the Church. These conditions still exist today. The second one is mentioned three times and this one marks the end of the Church period (the things that are) and the beginning of the things that shall be at the time of the end. This trumpet voice is related to John's spirit's departure in the first century. He is taken to heaven and into the future to view the things that shall be during the 70th week decreed for national Israel.

Paul mentions this same trumpet in 1st Corinthians 15:51-52 indicating the departure of both sleeping and living believers, and for the same event in 1st Thessalonians 4:16-18. John experienced this departure in advance and he will experience it again when the Lord comes for the Church (he will be one who is sleeping).

The next seven trumpet voices are those that precede judgments as part of the Lord's hour of trial against an unbelieving world and are recorded in Revelation. Six of these involve major destruction on the earth in conjunction with the arrival of Satan, his angelic agents, myriads of other fallen angels, and those humans who will worship him as a god. These things will take place during the first half of the Lord's our of trial as part of His judgment against those who refuse to believe the truth about Him.

The seventh trumpet voice of the set of seven will sound just before the end of the second half of the 70th week and will incorporate the Lord's wrath (7 vials) against Satan, his angelic agents, and his human followers. The Lord will destroy his kingdom within the next 30 days terminating at Armageddon.

The next and last trumpet voice of the set of ten will occur just after the tribulation of those days and will herald the Lord's gathering of His elect (those of national Israel who will survive the 70th week). He will then gather all survivors of the other nations and will separate them for entrance into His millennial Kingdom. [Matthew 24:29-31, 25:31-46]
