let's talk Bible Study

I've been bad about Bible Study for...a while. I associate it with Teen Challenge. Don't get me wrong; I love those people! Its just...the guy in charge of the Bible stuff wasn't so great. They had to find someone else, actually :-(

Also, there were issues with apathy and what not..typical mental patient stuff. God healed me! Yes! I'm in Acts right now. Its a Jimmy Swaggert Bible. If you'd asked me, say, 5 years ago: "hey, would you like this Bible? Its approved by Jimmy Swaggert ministries!!!" I would have laughed. Now, I love this Bible. And his ministry seems pretty awesome, too.

How much time do you devote to Bible study? Do you memorize verses, or just get the gist of it? I'm good at memorizing verses, but not addresses, so...yeah.

Yup all sounds normal to me... We have a bible study forum here we are in genesis in one thread you are welcome to join in... Personally studing for me all by myself is haphazard. :shame I very much appreciate have Bible study here...

Growing up hearing the KJV key words come to mind and i can look up the verse, so i stay in KJ The addresses nope cept for John 3 ;16 .. And some of those names in the OT goodness ...

I read everyday. When I see a passage that is difficult to understand or I sense the Spirit emphasizing it to me, I dig in deeper with resources (internet, commentaries, etc).

I like to memorize verses that reinforce my identity in Christ.

Thank God the Holy Spirit brings scripture back to my remembrance when I need them as I do not retain scriptures very well. I'm a digger in the word and love to be challenged by others who question me on certain things as it causes me to dig even deeper. I like studying on my own as the Holy Spirit reveals so much to me that I have never seen before. I like Bible study groups, but not part of any at this time nor any particular Church. In groups or forums like this we can share with each other, but not always agree with each other and that also makes me dig into the word to see why others believe as they do even though I might not always agree or they do not agree with me.

Usually from 9 in the morning until around 4 in the afternoon I am in this forum with 3/4 of the time digging into scripture so I guess you could say I'm studying at least 7 hours a day off and on as I multitask between here and what needs done around the house.

I got pretty much straight As in Scripture memory in elementary school (I attended a private school)--heck, I even had a plaque for it. But once I turned 14, memorizing stuff became really hard and these days I usually know the gist of a verse but not word for word or it's reference. At least I remember enough to say I know the Bible somewhat decently. :)

My church has a Bible study Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings, and I really like it being in an atmosphere where I'm there with others learning. I also go to one on Tuesdays hosted by the local Christian radio station, but it's more like a sermon than a Bible study, really.
