Listen To Secular Music?

Yes, I've heard that. Even the lead singer of Slayer says he is a Christian. They made this song titled "God hates us all" and when asked about it in an interview, he said no, it's just a song, and that God doesn't hate.

It makes me wonder if they just see it like actors see movie roles. I'm playing a part, but it's not actually me. But then my question is, how serious is their faith? Is it just a vague belief in God? Because i think that if you're more serious about it, you wouldn't sing a song like that.
Agreed 100%
First thought I had when I heard Cooper.

When they refer to "God," they're actually referring to Satan, Riven. He's their version of it, and he is a god of hate, so they have it right, at least in that regard.

"We’re into God," defended Iommi, an avid reader on books on astral projection. ‘But sometimes I feel Satan is God.’ Ward countered." (Circus, May 31, 1984, p. 59)

So, when they say they're Catholics, do you think it's a case of trying to serve two masters or what?

No, it's just a cover. Satanists are very discreet in how much truth they actually divulge, and understandably so. If your real religion is associated with human sacrifice and Devil worship, it kinda goes without saying that you won't be shouting it from the rooftops in blatant statements to the public. None of them ever do. But it's always obvious in the lyrics, even if they use "analogies."

But identifying as "Catholics" is just more tricks they use to throw people off. It's like what the politicians do. There are a lot of them that do nothing they actually say they will once in office (I'm speaking especially of RINOs here), but they know how to put a good face on so that most people who only look on the surface won't know the difference.

I ask because the members of Black Sabbath are all Catholic. But I don't consider Sabbath a Christian band.
I agree with wondering that not all who claim to be Christian are actually Christian; probably relatively few. Two questions for supposed Christians in a band like Black Sabbath are: 1) are their lyrics either consistent with the faith or at least not promoting things antithetical to the faith, and 2) do they live their lives consistent with the gospel and bring glory to Christ?

Sevendust is Secular but the lead Singer is Christian for it says so too on his social media page.

Breaking Benjamin could be Christian for I believe the lead singer has said so and he has collaborated with Michael Barnes of RED and Lacey Sturm of Flyleaf.

Demon Hunter is a Good Christian metal band. So good I think it could be Mainstream. Same with Living Sacrifice and Impending Doom.

Korn has Christian members like Head and Fieldy. And Brian Head Welch formed his own Christian Band that is pretty good Love and Death.

In the 1969 words of Larry Norman:

I want the people to know that He saved my soul
But I still like to listen to the radio
They say "rock and roll is wrong I'll give you one more chance"
I say "I feel so good I gotta get up and dance."

Yes - I listen to a LOT of secular music. These days it is mostly classical and jazz. But I still go for some good classic pop, rock, and even some heavy metal.

I do have my favorites too. Honestly? I seem to go for entertaining music with either harmless lyrics or lyrics that aren’t really the focus. Just had this older number playing in my vehicle 🚗:

There was a story going around back in 72-3. Not sure if it was true or not. But it said all the members of Sabbath got saved in the tail end of the Jesus movement. Some of the songs from Masters of Reality seemed to indicate that. But their occult followers did not like that at all and started making death threats, ending in shots being taken at them while on stage. Had they not all dived for the floor at the first shot, at least one of them would have been killed. It scared them all back into the world.

That's interesting. I'll have to do some searches and see if there's any truth to it. If it is true, one wonders why they didn't keep it private. One's relationship with God doesn't have to be pubic knowledge.

Well, supposedly Ozzy started preaching during every concert.

Why stop there? I'm only hiring Christian plumbers, Christian construction workers, etc.

Music is just an expression of living, a beautiful one. It's an art. Enjoy music for the joy of music.

Music to me is more of an art. Like what is the musicians trying to convey in the lyrics. Highway to Hell is a perfect example, its the fact that maybe the point of the song is "I'm a sinner going to Hell, maybe I need to change my ways. How can I change so I'm no longer on the Highway to Hell, but the stairway to heaven?". Of course that may not be the original intention of the artist but that's why I see even negative music can be used for something positive.

I listen to a lot of dark music (mostly metal), that is not because I'm a dark, evil or bad person but I'm surrounded by all of this and I try to find music that fits that persona. I even found a thrash metal song that has the point of view of a school shooter. "All i wanted was a little affection but no one gave it to me" is often what most people miss when it's being talked about on the news. So really I find music more than just simply a way to express it can also be beneficial if those actually pay attention to it rather than seeing music to sing along, which I don't really do since I see music as a different form.
