Agreed. I LIKE the voice of reason! All too often on subjects like this people get condemned for doing something (gambling in this case) that is never really condemned in scripture unless certain verses are taken out of context and twisted around a bit (or a lot) or exaggerated to support that condemnation. It's many times not the person doing the condemnation that does the twisting of scripture, they are usually just repeating what they have heard from like minded people. But it's always a good idea to really look at the scripture ourselves and ask if the thing we are condemning really is condemned as sin in scripture, or if we are just standing on traditions of men that we've always heard and never really questioned. In this case, are the scriptures used to say the lottery is wrong really saying that? Or are they saying that making it into an idol is wrong? A study of those scriptures in their proper context shows they are condemning making it into an idol, and that's when it becomes sinful. How about ? Romans 14: 22-23 "So whatever you believe about these things keep between yoyrself and God.Blessed is the man who does not condemn himself by what he approves. 23. But the man who has doupts is condemned if he eats, because his eating is not from faith; and everything that does not come from faith is sin."
Robert Haldane "This does not only apply to meats but to everything"Exposition Of Romans1847"
So I believe if it feels wrong then it ,is when it comes to taking risks .On the other hand if the "little voice within" says it's okay or go for it the gambling is no different to any other venture which holds the possibility of going against the will of God if abused or overdone to the detriment of youself and others.
Prodigal Son Luke 11:15-21 he blew everything went totally over the top,but thankfully realised his mistake and bounced back and was willing to start from scratch verse verses 17-18,and there is a happy ending regardless of whether he gambled or got spaced out(alcoholor drugs) or whatever particular lawful
worldly thing caused his original downfall. The Casinos ,Lotteries arn't the problem it's the same as a liquor store or bar, its the user who overstretches his or her luck in most cases.
So there are cirtain things in life which certain people should not do, which dose not apply to all.Playing Lotto within ones means is therefore no different from a bank taking your money and lending it to some other person with the hope that they can pay it back. Thats how they basically operate "legal money rolling" hoping .Any risk is gambling as has been said already above.
a liberal jewish judge? interesting
Not sure what you area saying by this. It was right after my post. Was this in reply to something I said?God doesn't work by nor in nor thru human faulty or the enemies reason(s)...
I absolutely agree with you on this. If a person's conscience is bothered by gambling, that person should drop it. Not the entire Christian population of the world, of course. But that person whose conscience is bothered by gambling certainly shouldn't gamble!...If something hurts even one person, one weak believer's conscience even, then it is to be dropped...
As for this part of what you said, I certainly agree that brothels should be avoided by all Christians and can certainly show several verses of scripture that state and support prostitution being a sin. But in regards to what you have said about gambling here, comparing it to prostitution, please cite a scripture that says gambling is a sin, such as it says prostitution is a sin. Remember, we aren't talking about gambling being turned into idolatry being a sin of idolatry as was pointed out earlier. Please show us where scripture says gambling itself is a sin such as prostitution....All the other damages done by the obviously wicked industry 'gambling' are all too blatant to even think of going there, any more than going to a brothel.

Oh, yeah, and please don't forget to give a clear chapter, verse, and version reference for the scripture you cite, as required by the ToS and as has been asked many times in the past.
He is against gambling(trusting/calling on lady luck, fate or destiny).
Scripture was posted earlier, and more is in the link just previous. (Standard Biblical Christianity btw).
(gambling by definition includes a motive/desire/et al )
