Made In The Image Of God

There’s a discussion of some of this in an eddif thread
Why did Adam fail. Right now in the lounge

Adam of Eden was made in the physical symbolic image of God.

Jesus of Nazareth (Last Adam) was made the express image of the Godhead bodily.

Colossians 2:6 kjv
8. Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.
9- For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.

1 Corinthians 16;45 kjv
45. And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit.

Both Adam and Jesus have body imagery but Jesus had the manifestation of the personality and supernatural power of God.

Psa 139:13 For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother's womb.
Psa 139:14 I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.
Psa 139:15 My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.
Psa 139:16 Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them.

There are many definitions about the image of God that we were created in, but I think in His great plans for humankind was to take care of that which He created. Within God's image is our relationship to it as in our purpose, fulfillment, delight and very life itself that flows from our relationship, fellowship with the Father. We need to know and be known by the very one who created each us.

Psa 139:15 My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.
You would quote something I never noticed before.

Jesus had two births.
1. From Virgin Mary
2 From the Grave

I have given some thought to the first born of the dead, but I absolutely never tied it to an Old Testament passage.

Revelation 1.5 kjv
5. And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood,

Now I want to triple check this. We have two births, and there is a good start.

Romans 8.11 kjv
11. But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.

Some could warp all this but it still makes sense.

The quickening spirit background is growing. The last Adam information becomes more detailed.

Ephesians 2:1 kjv
1. And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins

Philippians 3:10 kjv
10. That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;

Looking a bit better

There is always two births. One physical and one Spiritual. Just as Christ born in the physical, but rebirthed from the grave in all His glory so that we have life everlasting with Him through that of His birth, death and resurrection.

Gal 6:8 For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.

1Peter 1:23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.

Symbolic image of God? What's that mean? What do you base that assertion on?

Why wouldn't it be the literal image of God?
Two possibilities :
1. Adam was like God in actual power
2. Adam’s creation pointed to what God was like.

Look at what happened to Adam.
Adam failed.
If # 1 was true - God failed
If # 2 was true - Adam failed to live up to what God was like although in him was the image of what God was like

Isaiah 1:18 kjv
18. Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.

Revelation 3:20. Suggests fellowship of conversation at a table.

If we just want it written clearly in ever case, all answers will probably never come.

Jesus told the parable of the sower to the multitudes with no interpretation. That is what a parable / symbolism is:
A kind of presentation where clothed in mystery a truth is hidden.
A seed is the word of God
The ground is men’s hearts
The disciples had to ask to find out what the seed and ground was all about.

Made in the image of God is a hidden mystery that has to be opened. Using the parable of the sower (as a guide) ; raise the symbolic ( image of God ) to its highest level.

The heart supplies good to the body
The kidneys remove toxins from the body
The mind understands God

If you understand God works in us to will and to do of his good pleasure:
Then you see imagery in our body.

One of the attributes of God is a simple pure spirit. IMO that is the image we are all created with. When God breathed His breath of life in us this caused us to be a living soul, made of a pure spirit, Genesis 2:7.

Psa 139:17 How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them!
Psa 139:18 If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand: when I awake, I am still with thee.

In the verse I highlighted David talks about his frame (skeleton) was not hidden from God when God made him in secret. The expression "in the lowest parts of the earth" is a poetic term that describes the womb just as dark and hidden from human view. Curiously wrought means woven that is a the Hebrew word raqam. This term refers to the skill of an embroiderer or someone skilled in needlework. God's creation of the human body in the womb is a masterpiece of design and workmanship.

The first part of my Walk after God I thought the soul was the spiritual part of man. Now I feel it is the spirit of the mind.
But
If God put up with my believing the soul was spiritual, I will not attack anyone who still believes that.

Some people have 6 children a mortgage and no time to get involved with some of what I look into. I will try and not pressure those people.

If you see sin, repent, accept Jesus as your savior. Please put eddif on ignore if it is upsetting you. God knows each of us.

The soul is the spiritual part of man as the soul and mind are one in essence of each other.

This body/flesh dies and deteriorates as it turns back to dust while in the ground. The breath/spirit goes back to God who gave it, Ecc 12:7. The soul which makes up the conscious part of ones being is that of thought, action and emotion (our mind). The spiritual nature of man regarded as immortal and separable from the body/flesh at death and susceptible to happiness or misery in a future state.

Without the spirit/breath from God our soul would not be alive as spirit and soul are connected, Genesis 2:7.

People do get busy with life, but yet everyone is capable of setting a certain amount of time in studying the Bible. I'm glad I am retired and can spend hours everyday choosing to search the scriptures everyday. I liked to be challenged by others as it makes me dig even deeper into truth.

Colossians 3:22 kjv
22. Servants, obey in all things yourmasters according to the flesh; not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but in singleness of heart, fearing God:
23. And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;
24. Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.

I did say that sin, repentance, belief in Jesus was important, since Jesus baptizes in the Holy Spirit I will teach what is involved,

Personally I used to want to black pint the Colossians passage. However, I see way too much sin of my own to ignore it. The Corbin passage is there too. He knows who we are.

But For_His_Glory is right too. You can’t say well I am too busy for this religious stuff.

Be not righteous overmuch neither be a fool, he who loves the lord will come forth from them both . (Punctuation ?)

God is the one who is righteous.
We have an intercessor Jesus Christ the righteous,

Well I do not know about that. That what? (All His Glory)

When Jesus was resurrected from the grave:
He was raised from being in the grave
He was alive and not dead
He still bore the marks of his death
He could not be held till he ascended to the father
Acts 2:32 kjv
32. This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses.

Matthew 16:27 kjv
27. For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works.

The return of Jesus to reclaim his (saints / bride ?) will be in his glory.

I sure see being made alive from the grave is an elevation, but not to all his glory.

I probably will catch it now. Oh well we are raised from glory to glory.

2 Corinthians 3:18 kjv
18. But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.

We start out a living soul (mind, will , emotions)
And are raised to higher levels. I sure have to admit that my present level is not yet what it will be. At the last trump we will be changed.

Has the quickening spirit come for our change? Yes.
Has the Holy Spirit come that we might be witnesses? Yes

Are we totally there yet?
Prophetically? I would say Yes.
If we continue in the faith? Yes

For it is God at work in us.

See if post 14 helps?

Galatians 4:23 kjv
23. But he who was of the bondwoman was born after the flesh; but he of the freewoman was by promise.
24. Which things are an allegory: for these are the two covenants; the one from the mount Sinai, which gendereth to bondage, which is Agar.
25. For this Agar is mount Sinai in Arabia, and answereth to Jerusalem which now is, and is in bondage with her children.
26. But Jerusalem which is above is free, which is the mother of us all.

We can see a concept on different levels. When I read the story of the two women years ago I saw two women as history. Now I hardly notice the women, but the covenants appear.

Years ago I saw human anatomy as biology. Now I see anatomy as the nature of God revealed, but hidden from the foundation of creation.

I should have been more clear about all His glory. I was referencing John 1:14 as Christ was risen in the full glory of the fullness of grace and truth and will return in that same glory.

John 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

We are not children of the bondwoman but of the free. but what does that have to do with creation? Are you trying to say that creation was allegory?

What I love about you isi learn from almost every post you do.

Now I know what full of grace and truth is about. Not the image of grace and truth, but the reality of grace and truth in operation. Jesus was:
Colossians 2:9 kjv
9. For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.

Hebrews 1:3 kjv
3. Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;

I think the kjv may be the express image I keep coming up with. Some folks do not like kjv ( and in places it does have its own twist).
I need a list of the places it does it’s thing. I also used RSV and when I can’t seem to find what my memory insists on (it is usually in RSV )

Should not argue over words. All a seminary has to do is: publish there own Greek language course and they are justified in their belief. I wonder what I do?

Anyway keep those letters rolling in friends. If you have a comment make it known.

I thank you for your gracious comment, but all the glory goes to God who works in me and through me, but myself alone am not infallible as I miss it at times.

If one thinks about it the very image of God is love shown through His grace and truth in the visible and invisible things. Some people say that truth will hurt you and yes it does, but for a moment until you see the light of understanding in all truth.

We are not children of the bondwoman but of the free. but what does that have to do with creation? Are you trying to say that creation was allegory?
Creation is not an allegory.

The allegory is comparing the two children of Abraham...

One, Ishmeal, was of the bondwoman, Hagar.
It's taught that he is of the flesh because Abraham and Sarah couldn't wait on God's promise and they went ahead and agreed to have this son by Hagar.
This is the son of the flesh because the "flesh" conceived him...God had no part in it.

The other son, Isaac, was born of the wife of Abraham, Sarah.
This is the son of the Spirit because God had promised a son to Abraham and his wife and Isaac was the result of this promise. God was involved in the promise.

Paul is comparing the Law to Grace. The Old Covenant with the New.

Try Galatians 4:23 again:
22The Scriptures say that Abraham had two sons, one from his slave wife and one from his freeborn wife.
23The son of the slave wife was born in a human attempt to bring about the fulfillment of God’s promise. But the son of the freeborn wife was born as God’s own fulfillment of his promise.
24These two women serve as an illustration of God’s two covenants. The first woman, Hagar, represents Mount Sinai where people received the law that enslaved them. 25And now Jerusalem is just like Mount Sinai in Arabia,h because she and her children live in slavery to the law.
26But the other woman, Sarah, represents the heavenly Jerusalem.
