Bible Study Mary's Choice

she had to be scared maybe not the entire time but what was the punishment for a woman having a baby not being married
Absolutely.
Not only was SHE scared, but what about Joseph?
He could have had her stoned to death.
He must have really loved her to take her as his wife.

Mathew 1:18-19
Joseph was a noble man and desired to take care of things in a quiet way so as not to disgrace Mary or have her punished as was the custom in those days.

Mathew 1:20
Joseph had a dream. The angel in the dream told him not to be afraid and to take Mary as his wife.

I'm sorry but I must disagree with you on that one. A lot of things that happened in the Bible (like not being able to eat pork and getting tattoos) serve no real purpose today. The fact that Jesus humbled Himself as a human baby and died on the cross for our sins and then rose again three years later is a lot more important than what His mother's heritage line was imho.
But He had to come from the line of David or He could not be considered to be the Messiah, so the heritage lineage is important.

As was said by Allen Wynne , every line in the bible is important. (or word).

I agree with you. Some in the bible are there for very special purposes.
I DO believe in free will, as God created us as HE is and He certainly has free will.
I noticed your giggle there so can I assume you DON'T believe in free will?

Free will as in: I have the choice to pick either good or evil at any given moment.
Yes I believe in free will to a certain extent, not the way Arminians do. I also believe in presdestination to a certain extent, but not the same way Calvinists do. I believe what the bible says about it. I also absolutely believe that both go hand in hand perfectly as always.

Romans 10:8-13

8But what does it say? “The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart,”d that is, the message concerning faith that we proclaim: 9If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. 11As Scripture says, “Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame.”e 12For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile—the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, 13for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be will be saved.”

II Corinthians 9:7 kjv
Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.

When we are approached, do we open the door. Revelation 3:20
Or
Do we go kicking against the goads.

It takes help to go willingly. The Holy Spirit can resist the flesh.

Rednecks need encouragement

Romans 12:1 kjv
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

Another Paul Harvey way to give the rest of the story.

eddif

How do you receive the Holy Spirit?

Plan A
The line forms over on the right.

Plan B
Blind and in a room praying? The messenger has to be encouraged to go and lay on hands.

Plan C
Whatever it takes? Hey that sounds like Plan B.

Plan D
I got it at salvation.

I like your scripture. Who wouldn't?
It would be interesting to know in what way you don't agree with free will as arminians do. If I had to choose between Calvinism and Arminianism, I'd choose the latter, but I don't believe anyone agrees with a category 100%.
(Just if you want to, of course).

I went willingly and happily.
Jesus "told" me true things.

Some offer themselves up.
Some like to say it's not necessary.
I'm of the former.
And that's the rest of the story...

Not sure what you mean...
Tongues?
The Holy Spirit?
Don't we all have the Holy Spirit?

It IS kind of important that God give us the choice to say no.
At least, I think it is. Unless there's a really important reason
and that reason would have to be for God's will to be fulfilled.

I didn't mean that, I simply meant that we shouldn't be focusing on what would have happened if she had said no because like it has been repeatedly mentioned God knew all along that she would say yes. Anyway, you mean to tell me that if Mary and Joseph hadn't of been Jesus' parents that He wouldn't of been looked at as the Messiah? I'm sorry, but I find that a little hard to believe. After all, like I said, Jesus was the Son of God before He was even born. That lineage is the most important in my opinion. And as I also stated before, some things in the Bible like not being able to eat pork, and not being able to get tattoos (although I don't want any anyway) serves my life no purpose so why should I even consider that kind of stuff important? I guess the way I see it is the same exact way when I was stuck in that insane aslyum for children known as school. I just remembered the most important stuff that would help me in life. The other stuff I just got rid of due Theo the or fact I would have a brain overload and I just don't need it.

Mary and Joseph went to Bethlehem because Joseph (Mary too) were of the house AND line of David.

Mary was of the line of David?

I have never read that?

I have only seen where Joseph was of the line of David.

Not that it matters, because we know Jesus was conceived of a virgin.

Jesus was of the line of David because of Joseph, not Mary.

The blood line is determined by the male, not the female.

David the king begot Solomon by her who had been the wife of Uriah. 7 Solomon begot Rehoboam, Rehoboam begot Abijah, and Abijah begot Asa. 8 Asa begot Jehoshaphat, Jehoshaphat begot Joram, and Joram begot Uzziah. 9 Uzziah begot Jotham, Jotham begot Ahaz, and Ahaz begot Hezekiah. 10 Hezekiah begot Manasseh, Manasseh begot Amon, and Amon begot Josiah. 11 Josiah begot Jeconiah and his brothers about the time they were carried away to Babylon.

12 And after they were brought to Babylon, Jeconiah begot Shealtiel, and Shealtiel begot Zerubbabel. 13 Zerubbabel begot Abiud, Abiud begot Eliakim, and Eliakim begot Azor. 14 Azor begot Zadok, Zadok begot Achim, and Achim begot Eliud. 15 Eliud begot Eleazar, Eleazar begot Matthan, and Matthan begot Jacob. 16 And Jacob begot Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus who is called Christ. Matthew 1:6-16

Exactly. That's a great point! If Jesus was virgin born, then how dosteoporosis His genes have any connection with His earthly parents?

And I really wish I could answer that.

I tend toward: we might all have the quickening spirit the second Adam became. The whole issue is so clouded by man’s doctrine; I even include my personal experiences clouding my thoughts.

The empowerment to witness seems to be a major deciding issue on receiving the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit and fire (purifying fire and not consuming fire (?).)

Mary was dealing with a lot, and considered a lot.

The quickening is good enough for me.
All who are saved as Jesus speaks of in John 3:3,5 must have the quickening spirit.
This is the spirit that gives us eternal life.

Empowerment to witness because even the Apostles waited in Jerusalem until they received the spirit.
Acts 1:8
Acts 2:4

Acts 2:4 has never been well-understood by me. Maybe they needed to know how to speak in other tongues in order to witness? But, yes, everyone who believes should have the quickening spirit, whether or not they speak in tongues.
The power to witness. The power to defy most sin.

Correct. Jesus was the 2nd person of the Holy Trinity even before he was incarnated.
However, if the bible says tattoos are not a good thing, there must be a reason. Maybe because our body is not a canvas? Maybe making it a canvas is not a good idea. As for eating pork, Jesus said it matters not what enters the mouth but what comes out of it, so He did take care of the dietary laws with that statement, so pork if fine to eat.

And if Mary and Joseph were NOT Jesus' parents, yes, He could not have been the messiah. This is because Jesus had to come from the line of David. God made a covenant with David, the Davidic Covenant, it stated that from the house of David would come the King who would rule over the world and join all to God Father. So, yes, the Messiah had to come from the house of David.

Joseph came from the house of David. Joseph, being Jesus' earthly father, could claim the prophesy for Jesus. Some will not agree with this... The Jews, for instance.

The only thing that I agree with is the first thing you said and I'm not even Jewish. Jesus was, is, and will always be our Messiah because I do believe that that term is just another word for king. Jesus is our deliver period. And if some other woman would have given birth to Him it would still be the same way. The thing about pork doesn't make sense to me (Maybe because it's healthier to eat today?) and even though I don't plan on getting one, tattoos are no longer forgiven. There are religious tattoos out there too so that's your proof.

Jews don't believe in the Holy Trinity.

Messiah is the Jewish word for Christ...the annointed one,,,the one sent.
The Messiah had to fulfill scripture, prophesies, or he could not be the Messiah.

I don't understand your remark about pork and tattoos.

I specifically said that I wasn't Jewish. Oh and alright I'll put it in another way that you can understand then...I don't care what the Bible has to say about pork and tattoos because it's not important to me alright!? :wall I guess Jesus being the Messiah and having to fulfill scriptures and prophesies makes sense though but He would still be the king of kings nonetheless.
