Some of the recent comments here make me think I'd rather set myself on fire than celebrate Jesus' birth!
Hey, as long as the little lights keep twinkling, go for it. You may win the neighborhood decorating contest. Just make sure you flail your arms for full effect....a couple of 'ho, ho, ho's wouldn't hurt either.

I never went into debt for Christmas for the kids. There were a couple lean years but we just explained to them that we didn't have a lot of money but that we would get them such and such (usually a gun, lol) when we could. Then we did when we were able. I bought them stuff all year long and we didn't make Christmas a have to time of the year.

One year (when they were real little) we got 'em good. We wrapped up a couple real small things and put them under the tree, and hid the rest in the laundry room. After they opened their presents we sent one of them into the laundry room to get something and they freaked, lol. That was a good year and we had a big pile of presents in there for them.
These days you run the risk of your kid shooting you with the gun you got them last year before they find out you have all their gifts in the laundry room.

It's all about motive, not abundance.

Luke 21
1 And he looked up, and saw the rich men casting their gifts into the treasury.
2 And he saw also a certain poor widow casting in thither two mites.
3 And he said, Of a truth I say unto you, that this poor widow hath cast in more than they all:
4 For all these have of their abundance cast in unto the offerings of God: but she of her penury hath cast in all the living that she had.

.
Then you're gonna love what I got you for Christmas.

. food for thought what does the bible say about the lender and whom is his master? im not saying that giving small gifts is bad ,just addressing that I know that many give gifts that DONT have the money.that isn't good.
We used to put it all on the credit card and pay it off a couple of months later with our tax return loaded with Earned Income Credit and that Child something or other thingy that Uncle Sam tacked onto it for us families with children.

I guess that made me a slave to dear old Uncle Sam. Actually, he's been a pretty generous guy over the years to me and my family. And I never once had a business owner ask if the money I was spending at his business was given to me by him so that he could refuse my business. :lol

Now that we're all in the Christmas spirit, what's everybody's favorite Christmas movie?

Mine: 'Scrooge' 1953 English version.

Right after that.....'Christmas Vacation' (TV version).
