Mistake... Showing your Kids Movies you Grew Up With

anime :crazy real anime has porn and is can be also called hentai.

most of the anime if you look isnt meant for kids but adults. when its imported here the story lines are dumbed down and censored and shown to kids.

a good example of this is sailor moon.

I wasn't allowed to watch the Simpsons or anything with a witch (like Sabrina the Teenage Witch) but I was allowed to watch Bewitched. I also was allowed to watch Tales From the Crypt and Rocky Horror Picture Show and Grease was my favorite movie along with Mannequin. My mom cared about some things but not others, obviously. I also saw Saving Private Ryan at 11, in theaters.

Yes, I know about hentai. In Mexico, most shows were Japanimation. Never watched Sailor Moon...it think that's a newer cartoon. But I remember watching Speed Racer and this one show I have never been able to find...it translates closely to the Princess of a Thousand Years. Neither of those were hentai. And I love Maya the Bee...definitely not hentai. I'd let my daughter watch any of those.

Actually, I recently bought Little Mermaid for her and I was shocked at how sexual that one was! I don't remember seeing any of that when I was younger but now I see it as a grown up...yeesh! It's lost now...I didn't do it on purpose but we can't find it...probably for the best...

I was born in '82. I remember watching all that I highlighted. The first thing I remember watching ever was Michael Jacksons Thriller. It scared me to death but my mom thought it was hilarious! lol I also remember watching Dirty Dancing, Silk Stockings, USA Up All Nite lol, All the NOES movies, All the John Hughes movies..
As a younger child I loved Rainbow Brite, Heathcliff, Jem (she's truly outrageous! lol) then later we started going to church and all I remember watching was a tape of videos by Carmen when he released Addicted 2 Jesus. My childhood wasn't very consistant at all. lol

I had such fond memories of the Goonies. I remember quoting lines with my friends when I was real young. I just watched it again recently. Not only was it not as good as I remember (lots of lame acting/dialogue) but it has quite a bit of swearing for a kids movie. There's also an extended reference to male genitilia. What was the point Steven Speilberg?

:lol and also :mad

This is a perfect example of what I was talking about. Was this time around with your kids? :shame Thanks for the post, Aaron!

I didn't watch Goonies with my kids. My wife pre-warned me because she was helping out with a Christian day-camp and one of the helpers rented the movie for the group for a rainy day. They didn't let it run very long.

Satan is the present ruler of the world and sets its course (in so far as he is allowed by God). Given that, we should not be surprised that every book, movie, magazine article, TV program, and newspaper is used by him to accomplish his objectives.

A Christian parent can try to shield his child from all the evil in the world, limit the exposure to evil in the world, or allow his child to be immersed in worldly media.

We find that gradual exposure to worldly media with critical instruction helpful to our children in learning to recognize what contaminants Satan has introduced and why.

There are some universal themes Satan allocates so many resources to that he reveals what is important to him.

1. From the Boxcar Children to Harry Potter, it is very important to Satan for Children to learn that they are on themselves and cannot rely on a parent to help them.

2. We can observe from every TV program that a man needs a woman to instruct him, correct him, and protect him.

3. Sexual perversion needs to be tolerated and protected.

4. Divorce is only natural when "things don't work out".

5. "Hooking up" (fornication) is expected.

6. A woman (or a man) only has real value by their appearance and if they can visually present themselves in such a way as to solicit interest from others.

7. The collective (government, work, school) is the only practical foundation for faith (that which will provide and instruct).

8. The "science" of evolution, global warming, psychology, and sociology are all upheld to silence any objections to the progress of global socialism which enables Satan to collectivize the entire world.

There was an episode of Community College on TV where a man said, "I'm sorry, I have been programmed by TV to expect any black woman over 50 to be a cosmic sage".

Satan even allows a little truth to slip through disguised as humor. That was the function of Johnny Carson, to use humor to get everyone to laugh at what was happening in society. It is called "sugar coating".

The main trouble is that most Christian parents do not fully understand what is happening and have little of value with which to instruct their children. The question becomes what to allow children to see rather than how to instruct children as to how to recognize the schemes of Satan.

Satan has influenced churches so that their structural design is primarily as organizational collectives and as such resonate with and are drawn to the collectives he has established for everything else. The people who reside in such churches often find themselves drawn quite deep into worldly entanglement before they even begin to question what is happening. We can see this in churches that have a split over whether to endorse active homosexuality. We should not feel glad that some recognize this as wrong, but ashamed that everyone was asleep until this point.

The solution to this problem is not a list of which movies are good, but a closeness to the Lord that gives us the wisdom and discernment to know what is wrong and why. We can instruct our children so that they grow more discerning than we were, but we need to understand that everything begins and ends with Jesus. He is truth and the wisdom of God.

While it won't work for older movies, there is a DVD video player that edits out bad content. You can get more information on the Clear Play DVD at my website on colossians2.com. We have used it for years and enjoy many shows that we would not be able to enjoy otherwise.
