Over the years my everyday flatware has slowly disappeared, piece by piece. I was down to four dinner forks, three teaspoons and six knives.... When I married, I had the flatware, complete set for 12, for 18 years and not a piece missing... after 11 years with two kids though....
So, for Mother's Day this year, I basically told the kids what they were getting me... new flatware. I tried to get a set of my old pattern, but after 30 years, the only way besides ebay was Replacements and that was way too expensive. After being out bid on ebay several times, I gave that up and shopped around until I found a pattern I liked in the kid's price range.
And I did!!! It's by Oneida, so it's a decent brand (same as my old) and while the pattern is nothing like my own... I like it! I like it a lot. And now I have a full service for 8 again, which is nice because when we have Steve's folks and brother over, there are 7 of us...
Anyway, I noticed something about my new flatware when I was swapping out the new for the old. Let's see if anyone else will notice it.
Here's a picture with the old flatware on the left and the new on the right:

Did you notice what I noticed?
I don't know, maybe women will get this more than men will, but perhaps not... I noticed it right away.
Keep in mind my old flatware is 30 years old...
Did you notice that the salad fork is as big as the old dinner fork is? And that the new dinner fork is about the size of an average farm pitchfork...
Sheesh... is it any wonder we're all getting fat, shoveling in that much food in one mouthful?
Is this just in America... or do other countries have huge forks now too...
Also, I didn't really catch how big this flatware is at the store, because all the other patterns of all the different brands were the same size. These huge eating utensils seem to be the "standard" now.... just as my old flatware was standard 30 years ago.
