I'm mostly left-wing. Maybe even bleeding heart liberal. I dunno. I'm not big on the gay subculture, abortion, transgender stuff, etc., but I'm mostly on the "progressive" end of the political spectrum. Having said that...
The united states is crazy polarized! There doesn't seem to be much middle ground, and political identity is a huge issue. I think its big in the (Protestant) church, too. I grew up Presbyterian (PCUSA). They're considered "liberal" because they're gay-affirming now or whatever. I like a lot of their positions on social issues, but not that one (I'm progressive, but christian, so...). Then, you have the right wing churches that are just as worldly, secularized, political, etc....but they're conservative.
There's just...well, there's a lot of anger, animosity, tension, social class problems/class warfare, inequality, etc. in America. Trump is President now, and there's already protests about his every word and deed, venom spewing forth from both ends of the right/left divide, etc.
I ask that you pray with me that United States society can make a way forward. I don't know why God would will Trump to be Prez, but...that's what's happened, and so far things have been fairly intense. Most people in America aren't politicos, ideologues, etc.; we're/they're just trying to keep up with whatever's going on in our (usually rather prosaic) lives. That's me, I think that's most people.
My fear is that things are coming together to rip US society to shreds. Status, power, race, gender, sexuality, education level, ideology, religion, red state vs blue state, etc., all these factors are already problematic, and things could easily get worse (maybe they already are getting worse, I dunno).
I pray that the United States can make a way forward, as a society+as a nation, and not get further shredded by factors that divide us. I also pray that the leaders of this nation--at the federal, state, and local levels--will put the needs of the nation ahead of dogma+ideology+sound bites, no matter their outlook and party affiliation. When you look at some of the info. about this country--the high rate of imprisonment, the family disintegration, the drug abuse, the lack of upward mobility, etc.--its scary, scary stuff. Without getting too political, I sometimes think its end stage Rome, 21st century edition. The "news" will go into depth about the Kardashians (this just in: Courtney got a hair cut), but then they won't even mention what's really going on with most peoples' lives, what matters to most of us, etc.
Please pray. Thanks.
