So it would appear that site ownership views Mormons as Christian or at least close enough that they are allowed to promote it here.

The ads seem to be based on what we talk about and what we browse on the internet.

When talking about Mormonism, I see the same ads for Mormons, you see.

When in a thread about Islam, I saw an ad for an Islamic dating site.

After visiting Amazon, I often see an ad for Amazon (same goes for when I visit ebay)

I used to display what city I was in, in my profile. I saw alot of ads geared specifically for my city. Now that I have removed it, I don't see those ads anymore.

I am sensing a pattern here...

I am no expert on the intricacies of adworks, but ads must generally be approved. For example we don't see porn ads in the porn discussions. I think it is odd to allow only promotion of other faiths for money, but not for free.

No, they are not individually approved. They come in a package the advertising agency sold to vBulletin. At least that's my understanding. There have been multiple attempts to have certain ones eliminated, including the Mormon ones, without success. This is by no means a sign that the Mormon church is condoned by this site's ownership or the team.

I use Ad-Blocker with Firefox, so I never see any ads. :thumbsup

mike, do you recall when i saw ads for gay sites here. i swear just a couple of days ago they shown up again.

:shame I wish every member had Ad-Blocker. :shame

To Jason's point, Coffeeelover, would this indicate an endorsement by the site of homosexuality to you?

i'm glad that i dont so that we can know what this site is actually posting. i dont get alot of spam or what not elsewhere.

No I don't think so, but I have not seen that ad. Again I am not familiar with the the program that well. I do know that if one buys ad space there seems to be a lot of control over where and when an ad will display.

I remember another member brought that to my attention in a thread, coincidentally, we were in a thread discussing homosexuality!

There seems to be some sort of "key word" filter that Google uses to advertise to people.

Google is stalking us, brethren. :shocked!
