I have kind of a hard time believing that Noah placed all animals in the world on his ship. Is the previous remark true or just what most are taught?

There can be many sub-genuses from one basic species.

. Back in the 70s in a short one week class with a christian rabbi he told the class God chose the animals to go on the ark... More of a mystery to me is how did he get his wife to go with all those critters :eek

Farouk,

Like the modern day Liger?

No kidding! That's what I'm wondering? Like Spiders and stuff?

The faith of those OT wives sure shines....

Well, no. That remark would evaluate to "untrue". For instance, Noah did not have to transport animals that could swim. But I sense that you would like to hear more. I've read some very convincing things that come from Scientists who are also Christian. But maybe that's too 'technical' so I tell ya what I'm gonna do. I'll leave the technical researching up to you, or do it upon request (I do have access to the University Library and Subscriptions to their search services) and just look for something in regular English that explains it.

Brb... one moment... processing:

Okay, this one looks promising: Creation.com --->
How could Noah get all the animals on the Ark?
by Tas Walker

I know this is Ye Old Apologetics and Theology but let's not get into a Google War about the pro's and con's.

Here's a link that says it's impossible (just to be fair):
BiblicalNonSense.com --->
Chapter 6: 101 Reasons Why Noah’s Story Doesn’t Float
by Dr. Jason Long

If it were me? I could tell you but not without sounding like The Church Lady on some comedy show. In other words, I'd read the creation.com and simply shun the 'good doctor's' opinion. Actually, I might get in trouble here because I did post a link that basically says, in no uncertain terms, that the Bible isn't the Word of God. That's a lie so that's why I shun and won't read.

Cordially,
Sparrow

A Liger is a huge cat that is a cross breed of a lion and a tiger

Sparrow,

Thanks for the link. I appreciate it! But I have to be honest, reading the second link looks too time consuming. I'll bookmark it and read later.

I think the key to so much in the Old Testament is explained in Hebrews 11, actually. There is a line of thought running through the chapter. Blessings.

I don't take the story literally. It doesn't add up for me. (I'm sorry, the science isn't there.) It was probably based on a local flood.

Does a story have to be literally true to speak truth about God's nature?

To the people that do believe it, I have a few questions for you.

1) Where did all the water come from?
2) Where did all the water go?
3) How did Noah breathe up above 8848 meters?

I can hear Noah now. "Hey, marsupials! We're in Australia. Time to get off!" Except the possums were playing possum. If you like the idea of a worldwide flood, more power to you, but I'm comfortable without.

Farouk makes the best reply, faith.
If we have not faith in God's Word, then what is it we have?
If we try to reason things by human standards (our understanding of science, etc..), then we leave no room for faith.
We are told to have faith in God.
We are told to believe his word, it has all the answers in it that we need in this life.
Now we need to apply our faith and believe it.

Yes, I believe that every type of animal fit on that Ark.
If it wasn't big enough then God would have had Noah make it bigger.

One YE creationist made an attempt to reconcile the lack of space on the Ark by supposing that Noah only took a few "kinds" which then after the flood quickly formed all the species known today by hyperevolution of new species, genera, and families in a few thousand years. Oddly, no one seemed to think it was remarkable that new species were popping up on a monthly basis.

I think I know why.

There was a large regional flood in the Middle East about the time it should have been, but it's immaterial whether the Flood is real or allegorical; that's not the point God was making.

He may have transported young animals only half the size or less of adults. Or even unhatched eggs of birds and lizzards. Some lizzard species don't even need to warm their eggs constantly, if the eggs cool down they will not die, just stop growing until the temperature goes up again. That'd be much easier to transport. Noah only had to "breed" them after landfall.

Anyway, I'd go with what Tristan said. It's a tale that isn't to be taken as historical truth. All oriental cultures and some South American coastal cultures have stories of devastating floods that only few survived, or were saved from by God(s) or saved their lifestock, and so on. Floods, sea level rises or tsunamis have probably been a threat to humans since early humankind, and the memories of some great flood has inspired the camp fire storytelling for many generations. So the Jewish version of the flood myth was integrated into the great tale of the origin of the world.

. ... More of a mystery to me is how did he get his wife to go with all those critters
That's easy. It was part of her plan of escape all along. She was smart and made him think it was really his idea.
Plus, she heard there would be a Twitter onboard.

You'll get a variety of answers on this forum. What I would suggest is doing a little study... actually, a lot of study from both sides.
I tend to lean on God's word, so I"m considered a "Young Earth Creationist".
If your looking for "How" this is possible, the below article is a general start.

God bless you in your studies... they have just begun and you'll find out the topic is much bigger than you ever imagined.

My view is that since we are talking about God here, the how is not a question until we try to explain it in human terms and understanding. So an egg needs to be kept warm and incubated and animals need to be fed and watered and ...? Maybe in an earthly existence but with God at the controls, anything is within the realm of possibility. Even what we have come to know and understand as normal could have easily been changed in an instant to suit God's plan.

Jesus was able to instantly convert gallons of water into wine, which in our earthly environment takes a fermentation process. Jesus reformed and healed crippled hands instantly before the eyes of witnesses, which today is likely impossible or at least would require multiple surgeries and yet would never be completely normal. Jesus instantly cured all sorts of illness, leprosy, blindness, deafness, the mute, and even the dead before multiple witnesses. Many of these things are still impossible even today. I have no problem thinking that God could manage the animal conundrum as easily as we can manage a smile on our face or a blink of our eyes.

God isn't bound by scientific theories or rules.
