Bible Study Numbers 22:28?

The diviners fee for one thing...
Then there are Archeological studies and anthropology studies that of that period and that area which show what I have said to be true.

Ask yourself why would a "diviners fee" need to ever be paid to a prophet of God?
Why would a prophet of God be cursing or not cursing people? Prophets tell of wars and famines and such...

Then it isn't exactly clear but it's possible that the fee could have been paid in part by the donkey he was riding as well. It wasn't uncommon for spirituists to be paid in livestock...especially if it was needed for the rituals.

So...kinda ironic that the "money" was talking to him as well. But that's the part I'm not positive on because nothing is said that he was paid in livestock. (Not going to go beyond what is written)

Numbers 22:28

?

Talking donkeys. That has about the same credibility as a unicorn in fairyland.

Can someone explain a talking donkey?
so you don,t believe the BIBLE GOD used a dumb azzzzz to speak and save a man life...

Good.

Because the workman is worth his wages and one does not muzzle the ox while he's treading out the grain.

He would do what God told him to do.
EX: Jdg 5:23 (RSV) Curse Meroz, says the angel of the LORD, curse bitterly its inhabitants, because they came not to the help of the LORD, to the help of the LORD against the mighty.
7:14
And:
Jer 7:13-15 And now, because you have done all these things, says the LORD, and when I spoke to you persistently you did not listen, and when I called you, you did not answer, therefore I will do to the house which is called by my name, and in which you trust, and to the place which I gave to you and to your fathers, as I did to Shiloh. And I will cast you out of my sight, as I cast out all your kinsmen, all the offspring of E'phraim.

And then there are the curses of the law. Deu 27:15-26; 28:16-68

Prophets, rebuke, encourage, admonish, warn, predict and they might pronounce the curse which the Lord has declared.

No, there is nothing said. Speculation is not evidence.

Look, when studying a passage I don't stick strictly to one translation and often go back to original language...of course understanding the grammar really helps too.

So I recommend you do the same when reading Moses. The Torah is chanted, sung and is thought to be lyrics. So sometimes a more fluid but strict interpretation is needed to get the true meaning of a passage.

Prophets nor Israelites were told to curse in our understanding of the word as the translation you provided would suggest.

Not to greet with peace (Shalom) is a bit more literal but basically "do not befriend " is a bit more accurate. But an expression can't replace a single word when translating.

I believe the bible is historically reliable and there are many figures of speech in it, and a few minor human errors, but nothing major that discredits it.

as in what?
Hyperbole and metaphoric expressions are common in the Bible.
Don't forget either that some prophets were regularly Wisenheimers with their statements too...including Paul. (Such as when discussing circumcisions)

That's why hermeneutics is a blend of ART and science to understand accurately the scriptures.
Everyone believes in a different blend...some want science and less art and others want all art but no science resulting in the Ten Suggestions instead of Commandments.

It's a blending...and a razor thin line to walk. Better men than me have tried and failed. Dunno the "W's" on this one.

Why God gave me the gift of study...and the wisdom to accurately study scriptures is beyond me. Why He allows some to preach glaring errors with a megaphone is another story. Why He keeps me in the whispers when the truth is really scary but wonderful I dunno either.

I don't understand a lot of things. Maybe a donkey will explain it to me one day.

1Ki 4:26 Solomon had forty thousand stalls of horses for his chariots, and twelve thousand horsemen.
2Ch 9:25 Solomon had four thousand stalls for horses and chariots, and twelve thousand horsemen....

That appears to be then ancient Hebrew form of a typo.

iakov the fool

Dunno why the discrepancy.
Kings was written by the Prophet's and Chronicles written by the king's prophet in Jerusalem.

But that's about all I know.

Could be a timeline variation for the accounting or possibly a variation of one being inclusive of accounts outside of Israel. These are just guesses but likely accurate guesses.

Another word for "discrepancy" is "error."

"Could be...guesses" do not represent any level of accuracy. Would you undergo surgery if you doctor used those words?:eek

The 4000 vs. 40,000 is an example of an "error". There are also other similar errors found in copying manuscripts such as making a word plural (change brother to brothers). None of them have the slightest effect on the message of the Bible as the revelation of God to man and the way of salvation.

The main thing that comes across that I seen in those passages was how he violated the Law for the King...its a biggie and I never thought about comparing the numbers... But I'm sure there is a reason why.

There are other " errors " that I'm much more familiar with such as John 1:12...(all past tense)
Then in the account of "The Sending of the 12" Mark's Gospel differs from all the others when mentioning the staff.

I think Chronicles possibly includes an attempt to present Solomon in a better light. (so 4000 is less offensive than 40,000)
But Solomon is the first King of Israel of whom it is said, "He did evil in the eyes of the Lord." The thousands of horses was one of the evils.

I tend to think that would be "out of character" for the Jews.
They were a legalistic bunch...not as bad as they were post-exillic but legalistic.

I tend to think the authors of Chronicles were hyper focused on the borders of Israel. That would be more in character.
Neither is probably wrong but one limits the count to what was inside Israeli borders.

When dealing in business numbers are rather fluid and constantly changing... (Delayed shipment or in transition) Especially with livestock and men.

But the difference between is too large for solely that. So my guess is that as I have stated before. The spice route was outside of Israel but controlled/taxed by the garrison at Megiddo. (As well as the Via Maris and the Via Melach into and past the wadi of Egypt)

Soloman had a huge Empire going in several directions. Both seas had ships belonging to Soloman. (Mediterranean and Persian gulf).

Either way.... There's likely a reason for the large discrepancy. Image wasn't on their minds.

maybe he already has any time a person wants to discredit the Bible that throws up red flags.. the Resurrection could just be Hyperbole and metaphoric expression. how about a boat that would hold 2 of every kind of animal and survive a flood ?? or some guy being swallowed by a big fish . gosh
