That is good attention to detail! (I assume you had noticed that half of the verse is missing). I'm not sure how they have decided to do that, it is only what I have copy/pasted from online.

It didn’t seem to me you were intentional about it.

Some of the newer translations have omitted part of that verse.

I use the NKJV and the KJV, mostly.

Is it right that we should say that they are in Christ when they are walking according to the flesh and not the spirit? (remember James 4 says they are adulteresses).

Again, I would say no, however if I cross the line into “judgement”, then I’m just as guilty.

There is Judgement as in “discerning correctly”, then there is Judgement, whereby we are “passing judgement” upon another to condemn.

“Judge not, that you be not judged. For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you. And why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but do not consider the plank in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me remove the speck from your eye’; and look, a plank is in your own eye? Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.
Matthew 7:1-5

First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.

Amen.

Discerning that my brother has a certain issue, because I had struggled with the same issue but am set free from it now, and I want to encourage my brother, with my testimony, to be free, is a good thing.

Now he who keeps His commandments abides in Him, and He in him. And by this we know that He abides in us, by the Spirit whom He has given us. 1 John 3:24

Walking according to the flesh would be polar opposite of keeping His commandments.

That is a perfectly complete answer! Thank you :)

Some of the newer translations have omitted part of that verse.

Do you know why? .. is it a particular manuscript they are reading where it does not contain the words that the manuscript for the other translations do?

It didn’t seem to me you were intentional about it.

It was from the TLV version, and I only changed the words "Messiah" to Christ and "Yeshua" to Jesus, for the comfort of the English readers. I did notice that part was missing though, but I didn't fuss about it. I am glad you have increased the value by bringing forth the discussion!

Again, I would say no, however if I cross the line into “judgement”, then I’m just as guilty.

I am still a bit worried about putting that into practice. You know that such ones would be offended (2 Corinthians 6:3-4) and would become hardened against the truth (John 12:40, Ecclesiastes 7:13), doing great blasphemy in their obstinance (Hebrews 12:15) .. whereas Galatians 6 says that we who are spiritual should restore them in a gentle way.

I also am conflicted, where St. John says that we should not even greet those who have gone too far and do not remain in Christ's teaching (which is clearly describing those who are not walking according to the spirit) - he even says "whoever greets them takes part in the evil things they do".

I would think the enemy doesn’t want people to know the truth, and therefore be free.

Some people don’t want to be restored.

Part of having “righteous judgement”, would then be to discern who does and doesn’t.

You are very insightful.

I rejoiced greatly that I have found some of your children walking in truth, as we received commandment from the Father. And now I plead with you, lady, not as though I wrote a new commandment to you, but that which we have had from the beginning: that we love one another. This is love, that we walk according to His commandments. This is the commandment, that as you have heard from the beginning, you should walk in it.
For many deceivers have gone out into the world who do not confess Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist. Look to yourselves, that we do not lose those things we worked for, but that we may receive a full reward.
Whoever transgresses and does not abide in the doctrine of Christ does not have God. He who abides in the doctrine of Christ has both the Father and the Son. If anyone comes to you and does not bring this doctrine, do not receive him into your house nor greet him; for he who greets him shares in his evil deeds. 2 John 4-11

I think the context of the passage you were referring to implicated those who reject Jesus Christ as Messiah.

Key Verse:

For many deceivers have gone out into the world who do not confess Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist.

To me, this is referring to unbelieving Jews who wanted to entice these to turn to Judaism, which is a religion that rejects Jesus as Messiah and Lord.

I would think the enemy doesn’t want people to know the truth, and therefore be free.

None of the translators would say they were doing it for that reason though, so my question was more about their rationale.

To me, this is referring to unbelieving Jews who wanted to entice these to turn to Judaism, which is a religion that rejects Jesus as Messiah and Lord.

I read it as being the false teachers that were coming into Christianity (that Peter, Paul, John and Jude had been mentioning). It is they who have taught from their intellect rather than teaching spiritual truths (eg: Ephesians 4:17). They are the ones who do not acknowledge Jesus when He speaks (I use the present-tense expression), for Jesus said "wherever there are two or three gathered in my name, there am I in the midst of them", and "those who keep my commandments are the ones who love me, and they will be loved by my father, and I will love them and reveal myself to them". It is in that way we recognise that Jesus Christ is the head of the body, who comes in our midst and when He speaks, we hear Him (John 10:27).

So it is the Christians who we bear witness to, that when He speaks to them and they do not acknowledge Him, they are the antichrists. It is they whom I am speaking of in my question - because I am conflicted. On one hand I would rather bring them in than drive them away, but on the other hand the spirit that is in them forces me to say truths that condemn them and frankly, as you have said, they would rather follow the flesh than the spirit.

Anyhow, I'm just putting the question out there as a part of the growth of the thread. You can see that I still haven't quite compromised to the point that I would shy away from saying the truth. It would be interesting though if you can help with that, and already I am grateful for your insights :)

What is the law of love, if not His commandments?
For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome. 1 John 5:3

Thanks! Here you go:

Matthew 7:12
“So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.

Luke 6:31
And as you wish that others would do to you, do so to them.

Romans 13:8-10
Owe no one anything, except to love each other, for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law. For the commandments, “You shall not commit adultery, You shall not murder, You shall not steal, You shall not covet,” and any other commandment, are summed up in this word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.

Galatians 5:13-14
For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”

Mark 12:29-34
Jesus answered, “The most important is, ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.” And the scribe said to him, “You are right, Teacher. You have truly said that he is one, and there is no other besides him. And to love him with all the heart and with all the understanding and with all the strength, and to love one's neighbor as oneself, is much more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.”

Leviticus 19:18
You shall not take vengeance or bear a grudge against the sons of your own people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the Lord.

1 Timothy 1:5
The aim of our charge is love that issues from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith.

Matthew 22:39-40
And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.”

Micah 6:8
He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?

Obeying the Lord is how we express our love for Him.
“If you love Me, keep My commandments. John 14:15

And we do that. through actions to our neighbors:

Matthew 25:40
And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’

What is obeying Jesus?. Living for God and not the world.

It starts with obeying His Gospel.

Then obeying His commandments and doctrine.

Which is another way of saying obeying the truth.

I occasionally get this sharp pain in my right foot when I walk. But it reminds me of a friend who lost her ability to walk after her 10th brain surgery. So even that can be considered a blessing. So that brings the total back to 100% - blessings.

Wow, that really is the saddest way to count your blessings .. do you know why you get the pain and how it began?

.. ps, you have inspired a pleasant memory, thank you! :wave

We must return to fearing the Lord, which a healthy respect for Him and His word.

He is the truth.

Every word that proceeds out of His mouth is truth.

His Gospel

The fear of the Lord is a fountain of life,
To turn one away from the snares of death.
