Old movies

I’m watching platinum blob with Jean Harlow right now. Honestly? Not terribly impressed. Ugh 😑

She was tragic etc but the movie itself seems…just ok ✅ probably a big money maker way back in the day.

The Marilyn Monroe craze is kind of..blah . I really liked the movie where she played a recently released psych patient. High quality. And the misfits. She really slowed down when she got on all the pills 💊

Vintage Hollywood movies aren’t necessarily better and some of them were probably just ok ✅ back then and are now a bit painful to endure.

How do you think 🤔 our own latest batch of blockbuster films will hold up long term?

I don't even check out new releases anymore, sad to say.

Always loved The Great Dictator, though, Charlie Chaplin's spoof on the rise of Adolf Hitler. Still get a kick out of him climbing the curtains and bumping a huge globe off his butt, imagining being "a god," Lol.

Maybe Marilyn's best moment may have been singing Happy Birthday to JFK , but that was not acting .

Goodbye Norma Jeane
Though I never knew you at all
You had the grace to hold yourself
While those around you crawled

I really have no idea about current movies but I do want to see the "Jesus Revolution" .

Nothing can compete with the classics and the actors from the 30's through the 50's.
Without sound ? Talkies started then but didn't take off until the late 30s.

Where is me photos of theatres of that time .I have photos of three ,two locally one in Moultrie,ga .

One to photo that became a black only theatre

I wish they still used the 4:3 aspect ratio and black & white color for certain films. There was this film called Van Helsing in 2004 that started off like that in the beginning. But then it went to the standard color and wide screen format and I was really disappointed. Fun movie though.

As far as the classics go, I've never seen them. That was way before my time. I don't even know if I can connect psychologically with those films. Although there wasn't any cgi back then and there was more talking. So I might enjoy them.

That's my thing. My idea of a good film is two men sitting at a table talking. If you can make that interesting and have the audience go through the whole spectrum of emotions and become invested in the scene, THAT is true cinema, IMO.

Van Helsing still has one of the best were wolf designs. Way better than the 2009 Wolfman remake. Though an American werewolf in London and Dog Soldiers also are decent.

It was actually before my time as well. By the time I started watching movies it was stuff like Animal House, which obviously wasn't all that sophisticated...

Honestly don't I can recall... oh yeah, some of my first experiences watching movies was with Monty Python films, which might explain why I take most of life pretty seriously to this day.

Agreed. Critics made fun of the movie for the designs of some of the creatures. But the werewolves were perfect.

Monty Python is fantastic. Growing up, I had no exposure to British films. It was almost entirely Chinese and Japanese with the occasional big American film like Jurassic Park.

I love foreign made films spoken in the native language with subtitles. Of course, most of the Asian films were dubbed.

I'm not real big on the silent movies having to read the dialog, but even then some of them were pretty good.

They used music .I grew up on them at a certain edifucd that dates to that era.one patrics pizza
I was born in 1954 so I really do not remember watching these movies at such a young age as we were to busy playing outside until it got dark out. Back then kids had imaginations, not like the kids today. It was much later on in life I started enjoying watching those movies, especially when I would visit my mother who will turn 90 in April.
