Bible Study Our Body/Our Spirit

However, If this it to address the parable of Lazarus and the Rich Man I’d submit the parable has nothing to do with the afterlife at all.

19 "There was a certain rich man who was clothed in purple and fine linen and fared sumptuously every day.
20 But there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, full of sores, who was laid at his gate,
21 desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table. Moreover the dogs came and licked his sores.
22 So it was that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels to Abraham's bosom. The rich man also died and was buried...

So it was that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels to Abraham's bosom.

The rich man also died and was buried...

Jesus stated clearly in this teaching that both the rich man and Lazarus died, thus there life on earth has ended and what is taught next is about their existence after their life on earth has ended.

Jesus also describes Abraham's life in that place as well.

This teaching from Jesus is only about life or existence after death.

23 And being in torments in Hades, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.
24 Then he cried and said, 'Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.'
25 But Abraham said, 'Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things; but now he is comforted and you are tormented.
26 And besides all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed, so that those who want to pass from here to you cannot, nor can those from there pass to us.'
27 Then he said, 'I beg you therefore, father, that you would send him to my father's house,
28 for I have five brothers, that he may testify to them, lest they also come to this place of torment.'
29 Abraham said to him, 'They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.'
30 And he said, 'No, father Abraham; but if one goes to them from the dead, they will repent.'
31 But he said to him, 'If they do not hear Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded though one rise from the dead.' "

9 Then His disciples asked Him, saying, "What does this parable mean?"
10 And He said, "To you it has been given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God, but to the rest it is given in parables, that`Seeing they may not see, And hearing they may not understand1.' (Luk 8:9-10 NKJ)

Just a jerk from Mississippi.
What could I know. I quickly scanned the comments.
Adam with all his symbolic body structure was not living. Genesis 1:26

This body had a Central Nervous System capable of awareness, and all the ability to hear sounds, see, taste, feel, direct movement, eliminate waste, etc.

How much of the power of the spirit did Adam receive in the garden?
1. Enough to become a living soul.
2. Not enough to live forever without the tree of life.
3. Not enough spiritual gifts to overcome the con of satan.
4. Not enough to keep the eventual Law perfectly.
5. Weak enough to be possessed of demons at times.

Skip all the way to Jesus . The fulness of the godhead bodily. Able to discern:
1. Good and evil
2. Manifest all the spiritual gifts
3. Be transfigured
4. Do the will of the Father by the power of Holy Spirit.
5. Manifest body, soul, spirit.

Back to man.
To this point man has functioned as a living soul in a body.
John 14:17
Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

On the day of Pentecost the spirit entered man. Oh man was influenced by Holy Spirit a lot, and some evidenced spiritual gifts, but the general sons and daughters (mankind) Indwelling was not available till Pentecost.
The power:
1. To be witnesses (first and foremost)

Only then did man actually demonstrate body- soul-spirit.

At the resurrection the living soul will be changed for the better.
