When Jesus died on the cross God tore the veil that covered the Holy of Holies from the top to the bottom, Matthew 27:51. The Holy of Holies was the most sacred place in the temple. This signified the end of the Old Covenant and the beginning of the New Covenant. Under the New Covenant God is present with his people by the Holy Spirit and not in the Holy of Holies. This was a radical change from the Old Covenant.
Under the New Covenant the Holy Spirit is only given to those who hear and believe the Gospel, Galatians 3:2. It cannot be obtained through works or obedience to the Law, Galatians 3:5. Under the New Covenant righteousness is not by works or obedience to the law, Righteousness is by faith in Christ and his Gospel, Galatians 3:6-9.
The Gospel is a declaration from God that his Son Jesus Christ has victoriously defeated sin, death and the devil and now sits in heaven as "The King of Kings and the Lord of Lords" Revelation 19:16. God sees ALL THINGS in his Son Jesus Christ. Jesus is God's new humanity. All that are "In Christ" are part of God's new humanity, 2 Corinthians 5:17. "Old things have passed away; behold all things have become new".
God and his Son Jesus Christ like new things. In the Gospel we have been crucified and resurrected with Christ, Romans 6:3-7. This is how we have become new creations in Jesus Christ. The Gospel is spiritual, only those that are indwelt with the Holy Spirit can understand it. This is why Paul said, "If our Gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost" 2 Corinthians 4:3. God is not in the business of rehabilitating lost souls through religion. He puts them to death and resurrects them in Jesus Christ, Romans 6:5.
God is angry with those that have rejected the New Covenant and continue to live according to the old Covenant of laws, rules and religion, Romans 4:15-16. To reject the New Covenant is to reject Christ and his Gospel, Hebrews 4:2-5. In the Gospel Jesus justifies the ungodly, Romans 4:5 and reconciles us and the world unto God, 2 Corinthians 5:18-19. Jesus does this by his life, death and resurrection, making us complete in him, Colossians 2:10.
