Ah, yes. It IS that time of year again ... the spring run of the Crossfires on the Tail of the Dragon. I have spent all day on the car. I spent yesterday running around Atlanta getting it mechanically ready... today was the cosmetic battle.

311 curves in 11 miles :D An epic road, good friends, lots of laughs and even an Easter service provided by one of our drivers who is a chaplain at a local prison and an ordained Baptist minister.

I have new front brakes, freshly flushed cooolant system, new steering stabilizer, new CPS, new air filters, new front brakes, fresh oil change, new drive belt and the car has been washed in Dawn Dish soap, Claybarred, polished, waxed once (getting ready for the second coat) .... all I need now is to finish my video camera mount (to record my runs!)

I leave friday for the MAGIC... now if we can all just stay on our side of the road...

(He removed the truck's mirror with his shoulder, the impact also knocked his shoes off... he was running hard with a buddy who is down the road about 250 feet at this point, unaware his friend is face to face with the pavement.)

That picture = major ouch!

Just wanted to let you know prayers are directed your way to keep you safe during your travels.

Have fun with it all.... and God bless!

I'm in a convertible... after seeing that pic, I bought a helmet! (What if he'd hit ME?) Not sure I'll wear the helmet....

Thanks for the prayers, I run most often in groups and I am towards the back so any trouble usually gets the people up front. And in any event, it's safer in a car.

I just can't wait.. this comes twice a year, this is the smaller group (about 30 of us as opposed to the 81 cars we had last fall!)

That's a mighty sweet pic of 79 Crossfires and two SLKs, PizzaGuy...mighty sweet!

Give some thought to wearing that helmet...just in case... then again, you've been through those 11 miles before, so you know what it's like.

What an awesome tour that will be, though. Man may have paved the roadway, but God created the scenery... awesome!

I drove thru the Dragon on a business trip last week - in a 4WD SUV :sad --- not fun.

BUT... I finally noticed the beauty of the place (helps going thru at 25mph instead of 60 mph).

This is one of two weekends a year that I get to have fun!

Wait a minute...wait a minute, PizzaGuy .... you hadn't mentioned that you get TWO weekends a year of fun. Has that second weekend been approved??? I mean, how are you lucky enough to get TWO weekends of fun????

:shrug:biglol

Helmet?
Good luck, Pizzaguy.
But you have to wear your helmet to avoid a hellhit, ok.:helmet You will be fine with or without it. Just follow the rules;)

Besides, I think you use it at your workplace.:)

I actually bought the helmet as a joke. I'm gonna pull up to the Lodge wearing it with the top down. When the others stare at me, I'm gonna hold up a sign that says simply:

WHAT?

Video of a friend of mine in an SLK55 AMG chasing ANOTHER friend driving a Blue SRT (360 horsepower) version of my car. When they get behind a tourist or other car, they are doing 20-30 mph.

Around the 15:10 mark, they get close to 100, maybe a bit over, but not for long!
I suspect most curves are done at about 35 to 45 and most of the launches outta the curves they get to 60-70, again, they don't stay at that speed long!

Now you see why the QUICKEST way to get a ticket, is to be caught crossing the center line.
Notice the photographers along the way. You can go online and buy pics of your car or bike running thru the Dragon. THAT is how the picture above was produced, these photo guys take LITERALLY thousands of pics a day, and running thru at 40mph, they will get 4 to 8 shots of you in one curve!

I am ALMOST as fast as these guys in the curves, but I don't ever get up above 55 or so. (Well, I did get to 80 on the skyway once or twice, but went around a corner like Kyle does at 7:25 and just got too scared!)

My latest Facebook update:

Off in the distance, from around the country, starting out on various dates - an army of Crossfires of various configurations is on the move. They group in 2's, 3's, 4's and more ... and move ever closer, feeling the emotion of the upcoming confrontation. The closer they get, the larger their groups become - until they meet together a few miles from their destiny. Soon, armed with new tires, brakes and steering stabilizers, some with highly modified engines, they will face The Dragon or at least, it's tail. They will not be alone, an army of Genesis Coupes will stand beside them, and many sport bikes will, well, bravely jump ahead and take on the brunt of the beast's bite.

I think I need therapy. Fortunately, I'll get it - in a big dose of curves and cars (with sport bikers zooming past...)

I have SO needed a break, a vacation.

This weekend was a total, out - and - out B L A S T ! Pics and videos soon!

Thanks for your prayers for us. No one lost their car this time, not even any speeding tickets!

And out of about 36 to 40 people, our little church service had 19 in it this morning.
YES, one of our drivers is a Chaplain in a state prison system and he did a good job! We had services at the little historic Fontana Dam church.

I have TONS of in car videos taken with a GoPRO Hero2 camera (nice toy!) and tons of pictures, but they are all HD and HUGE. If I can shrink them, I'll post some.
