"Pizza's Ongoing Life Thread"?

Ok, just got back from a great four days with my Sports Car friends - (many who are Christians!) This was truly a great time, and I needed to see my friends -after spending the last get together in the hospital. We had just over 50 cars, the group got 8 tickets - a record for us. Last fall, I was the ONLY one cited in the entire group. THIS fall, I was the only one in the fast group to NOT get a ticket (cause I rode with the leader and didn't drive!)

We had many new people, and I led two "tourist" class runs - we may have gone over the speed limit, but not enough to attract "Larry Law". We did get caught doing about 8 over, but the officer just sat there and watched us go by - hitting our brakes when we saw him, but by then he had us if he wanted us.

Here is a photo slide show, it gets pretty about image 26 - you start to see the scenery.

That is me in image 4 - but that is not my car. It's a Mercedes SLK55 hard top. The guy keeps trying to sell it to me, but $23,000 for a used car with 125,000 on it is not my idea of a good buy.

So, what IS a Crossfire Tail of the Dragon meeting like?

Well, where else can you: Meet a pizzguy in a dunce cap, go for a boat ride and learn about the local history around Fontana Dam, ride "The Alpine Coaster", watch two guys change a waterpump on a girl's car without the right tools or supplies, get your car that runs for 50 miles at a time fixed, freeze your face off at 5771 feet above sea level looking out over the Smokies, learn what "---hat in a Mercedes cap" means, get a bunch of really cool and professional-grade photos of your car flying down the Dragon itself, meet the best car nuts ever, take 30% of the tread off your tires in 500 miles, taste "jungle juice" (then get car sick the next morning) - and follow it all up with a short Bible study and church service on Sunday Morning!

How ya gonna beat all that?

FOUR HOURS of editing one video, then uploading it, then waiting for Youtube to process it - only to THEN realize I calculated the edit wrong and up loaded 97% of it. Youtube is just too slow (and I have a very fast connection, but I upload ONLY in HD now.) I may host my videos elsewhere from now on.

I still have at least 6 videos I want to post.

Videos from last weekend are up, it was not as warm as it looks in the videos, we had one day of 70F, it stayed between 34F (at 5677 feet on the skyway) and about 65F most of the time.

Sorry, my audio is LOUSY - I have my camera set up for an external mic, but I didn't use it, and the internal mic does not like the set-up.

I am leading four cars, two of whom have never been here before:
Here we go down US129 approaching the Dragon. The bride we cross at the end is "Fugitive Bridge" - the bridge Harrison Ford jumped off in the movie.

We pick up the action just after the bridge - this is my favorite road, "Hellbender Hill", the last 2.5 miles of "Hellbender". I have no idea where that road got it's name, its not THAT 'bendy' for the remaining 14 miles or so.

And, the first 5 or so miles of "The Tail of the Dragon"...

Coming back the other way, (the previous Thursday) I was alone and had a very good run! I'd just been thru the 8.1 miles of the Dragon and knew I had no traffic, dogs, etc. in the road ahead of me. The DRagon is really 11.1 miles long, but for this run, I started at the overlook and just ran the 'main' part of the route. 318 curves in the 11.1 miles, not sure how many there are supposed to be in this 8 mile section.

Thanks for the ride

and the little bit longer ones... havent done the longest yet...
Motorcycles riders seem to like your road too.

Some of us, not me, but some of us rode this thing near Gatinburg, TN. "The Alpine Coaster".
Listening to it now, does not sound like any foul language was spoken - but had I been there on THAT thing, maybe.....

Just landed in South Bend. 19F. Blinding snowstorm on the way to the hotel. Whole road white.

And it isn't even Thanksgiving yet - I'm telling ya, these people up here are gonna get two bad winters in a row.
