[__ Prayer __] PJT in Japan

The artical disn't say in which direction it moved, but I did find this (unrelated, but relevent) picture:

japan_lg.gif

According to this, the tectonic plate Japan is on is moving east, so I would expect that's the direction it moved.

I am glad to hear your ok, but sad to hear that you are going to have to endure this fallout. I work at a water treatment plant in the US. I know as far as we go, tanks only have enough for a couple of days and that is pushing it. Its amazing the amount of water people use.

I am not trying to scare you, just giving you the facts as it relates over here. I am not sure on radiation entering the water supply itself. It just depends on what they use for their source; lake, river, wells, ocean. I will ask the treatment guys when I get back to work monday, maybe they know more. I am just a 'maintenance' guy.;)

Hang in there, God is good and he will never try you past your ability to bear it.

Hmm, then that probably means Japan has only 1-2 day`s supply because the tanks here seem smaller to me than in America. It could just be my perception but they look smaller to my eyes. Also Japan is much more densely populated than America so the water has to be used by many more people. To give an idea about Japan`s density, Japan is about the size of California but only 10% of the land is lived in. So take 1/2 of the total population of America and put all these people in 10% of California`s land and you`ll get a picture of how densely the Japanese live. You can open your window and shake hands with your neighbor from his window!
Thank you for the information, and don`t worry, it does not scare me. It is good to know. I think I`ll buy some water on Monday though! Tomorrow is our Sunday so I will have a day of rest in the Lord, God willing.

Theo, we moved East! I trust that is a good move.:)

I read that there had been an explosion there and that they feared there may be a meltdown. Can anyone here who knows more about nuclear physics than I do tell us what would be the consequences of a meltdown?

chernyobyl.

The latest news is they were not able to cool down the nuclear plant and it exploded. I live close enough to it that we`ve been told to not let any rain touch our skin, to wear masks, and just protect the skin when going out. What can you do? Just make the best of it and pray. I wonder how safe the water is to shower in and drink. I think the first week will be fine because surely the water in the water towers are protected but what happens with the new supply coming in? We are told to boil water and put it in pet bottles. I also wonder if it is good to hang the clothes out on the line, and what about windy days should we even go outside? But the fact is you`ve got to bathe, drink, shop, and dry your clothes so you just have to deal with it and leave the rest to God.

Jason, we have more US bases than just Okinawa, you can see the list here United States Forces Japan - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

I read that even California was hit by the tidal wave and it did some damage, and China felt the effects of the quake and has some power shortages so my heart goes out to others who have also been affected by this earthquake as well.

pjt, can you leave the area man, cherynobyl all over again. at least japan is prepaired to deal with that.that is scary, i live less the 20 miles from the hutchitson island nuclear plant. if it did that... it would be rather damaging.

LORD, many of these japanese citizens are in danger of radiation exposure, I also ask for mercy for the surivivors, and also the relief workers. I ask special protection for pjt and the crews. in your name amen

I can`t leave. Before God when I married my husband and we made the vows of Ruth to one another, "Intreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God:
Where thou diest, will I die, and there will I be buried: the LORD do so to me, and more also, if ought but death part thee and me. "

I will not be separated from my husband. Whatever we face, we face together.

Yeah.

very well, i understand. i will pray for your health there, as that radiation is a threat.

Reba, I don`t know if he found a ruby because I`m sure you and other Christians here take your marriage vows seriously as well so if faced with the same situation, I`m sure others would do the same.

As for our present situation, there has been a partial meltdown of the nuclear plant, but I honestly don`t know what that means because we get conflicting information. On the one hand, this morning we were told not to run our electric heaters (they use outside air) and to turn off all our vents in the house (because Japan is an island we have a lot of humidity so we have vents in our houses to prevent mold), to eat seaweed because it contains iodine, and to put a wet towel around our faces when we go outside. And we see on TV the city officials wearing space like suits covered from head to toe. On the other hand, we are told there is no danger. The wind is blowing towards the ocean so everything is going out there rather than to the people (although we do eat what comes out of the ocean). We are told the only area affected by the radiation has been evacuated, and even though the radiation is very high it`s not deadly so we need not worry.

So I don`t know if we are putting on masks and turning off our heaters as just a safety precaution or if there is really radiation in the air. I just don`t know, but I guess at this point it does not matter.

Jason, thank you for your prayers.

to prevent radiation exposure. pjt, do you remember chernonobyl? that is what they had to do in europe.

i wonder.. if that happened to where i live in Florida as far as nuke meltdown. my wife would have to leave me behind. i wouldnt ask her to stay. i say because in this event the guard is called in. and if im healthy enough from the exposure i would hope that i can serve the citizens here and assist in the evacuations and l&o.its what i'm paid to do in the guard and rather all guardsmen. we didnt hide from the canes, we drove into them and took shelter , when they passed we set up and helped give out food and water.

i wouldnt and couldnt ask my wife to stay here. she would have no power and no place to stay. as my house is less then 20 miles from the reactors.(as the birds fly)

I remember it, but I was a teenager when it happened so my mind was on lots of other young, youthful thoughts at that time. It was also before we had 24 hour news and internet so it just was not the dominating news and thought in my mind. Life for me was still centered around going to school each day. But I do remember people worrying about the radiation traveling all the way to America. I remember that, but as a teen I was not worried about it.

yes, i was even younger but since i lived near a nuke facility i tended to pay real close attention to that as in the town south has warning alarms for that meltdown shut it occur.i am not trying to scare you. but my army nbc training and what i know of the the radiations that is able to be stopped by suits isnt forgotten. i dont think you are being bombarded by gamma(lead and concrete dont stop that just mitigate it) but may be beta and alpha particles. are they telling you to wash your self when you go outside and come back in? beta cant penatrate clothing but the dust etc can enter through the orifices and cuts etc

My husband has not asked me to stay. There is just an unspoken understanding between us that we stick together no matter what till death do us part. However, if I said I wanted to go to seek safety in another area until things seem more stable, I don`t think for a second he would stop me, but I did not marry to run when trouble comes and I certainly would not leave my husband to face hardship alone. If we are together we can face anything together and be strength for one another.

You`re situation may be different though because of your job. In that case, I would not think it wrong to send your wife to a safer place. I mean a soldier certainly would not drag his wife into battle with him so they could be together. Each person must look at their own situation, and make the best decision before God.

i commend your bravery. i am not trying to scare you btw, but my army instincts as in what is going according to your posts is rather alarming. i dont think the officials are being upfront. if i see a man in a protective suit telling me its ok then i know that it isnt. otherwise why is he in that level of gear? i think that they are trying to calm the populous and are taking precautions for themselves but still.. if they are way away and don that suit makes me wonder how bad the radiation is. maybe and most likely they must be constantly exposed to the radiation and for excessive long periods. i am unsure.

No, they`re not telling us to wash when we go outside just to use a wet towel around our faces, but when I saw the city officials suits and looked at my little flimsy paper mask, I wondered how beneficial the mask really is if there really is radiation in the air. The air is still cold so I`m not putting a wet towel on my face and I have not seen anyone else doing it either. I just wear the paper mask and that`s all I see others doing as well. Again they are telling us the radiation is confined just at the plant location, but on the other hand they are telling us to not let outside air in our homes, wear masks, and eat seaweed. It is a bit confusing as to why we need a mask if there is no radiation, but I guess it is just in case it suddenly explodes radiation which they are telling us it is highly unlikely that will happen. So I am here, but I really don`t know exactly what our situation really is.

Interestly, my husband asked me this morning "what IS radiation?" I said, "you know it`s what the microwave uses and it`s what they used in "the" bomb". And he replied, "no, I mean what IS it? You can`t see it so is it just particles that can be absorded or what is it?" Suddenly I realized I did not know either. I said "I don`t know". He then said, "if we can`t see it, how do if it`s in the air and when it`s out of the air?" Again, all I could answer was "I don`t know". We just looked at each other without any answers and the news isn`t giving them either.

Pjt, this is the kind of thing when I have the news on all day, looking for updates and trying to discern credibility from "attention grabs", but knowing you are in it makes it very personal. God is in control... We know that His Plan is in control, but His Created world, shifting and shaping itself seems to be some growing pains. I heard a Godly man on the radio saying, "forest fires aren't a bad thing unless someone builds in the forest that's going down. Earthquakes aren't inherently bad until people build and live on fault lines.". He said earthquakes are actually good for the planet, as it is releasing gasses.

My point is that God is in control of His Grand Plan, but this planet will behave like a planet should. PJT, I worry greatly for you and your husband. It makes me weep to think about the situational disaster I'm watch on TV and that you're in the middle of it. And it's not like the U.S. Where you could pack up the car and drive 2000 km's away to live with family. You're kinda stuck. Not much in your control, so you are wise to give control back to Him. Sometimes, the only thing you can do is the very best thing you can do.

If you said somewhere else, I missed it. What city do you live in? If that city wouldn't show up on a map, what's your closest big city that would? I think of you all day as I'm watching this coverage and I pray. Lord, do I pray.:praying

I agree Mike i wold like to know which city. I have been praying for 'that lady Lord the PJT one on the forum." You know the one in Japan.... See guys i talk to you just like i talk to Him.

PJT your are an inspiration!

first off, at present there no threat of meltdown. thank god.
second they can tell radiation levels by what is called gieger counters or what i call them raidacs. these are the things you see on tv that click or squeal when near a radioactive source, the louder or quicker they click the more radiation there is. the human at most tollerates 500 rems.

the authorities may also be wearing hazmat suits for the sewage lines that have busted and also the disease that will come from all the bodies out in the open.

but i will leave from the speculation. i will be fasting for your country and where you are at.

Thank you Mike, Reba, and Jason for your continued heartfelt prayers. We truly appreciate them. And I agree Mike that God is in control, and with Him there is nothing to fear. We just have to trust Him, because things like this are simply out of the control of man. Actually, it is nice knowing we have God whom we can rely on.

Tomorrow we will have about 8 hours of rationing of our electricity where we will go without in about 4 hour blocks in the morning and the late afternoon/evening both right during breakfast and dinner prep. times. This is done to share ours with the people in Miyagi who have none, and also to help provide electricity to the nuclear plant to help get it under control. We are also having gas rationing. I have no idea why the gas is rationed since I don`t see any connection with it and the disaster but that`s just the way it is so we have to deal with it. I may be ongoing, but I hope the electricity is only rationed for a day. Nevertheless, we have to prepare for more if need be. So I may not be able to stay in touch as much depending on how long the electricity rationing goes on.

Jason they are starting to do radiation scans of people closer to the nuclear site, but that has not come down to my area. The poor little children seem to have scared faces with strangers doing these scans on them. I read I should take potassium iodine but it`s all sold out. So I guess everyone had the same idea! I`ll have to wait until it is restocked, and hopefully it`s not really needed anyway.
