It snows in the highlands of Iceland in the fall. Fresh lava and fresh snow make an interesting combination. This is the eruption at Holuhraun meeting snow for the first time.

The TOG

Despite the deadly potential of lava flows, that picture, TOG , is absolutely remarkable!

I thought the same thing, Gary , about the ash being snow! That ash coverage is deadly.

It's estimated that if the Yellowstone caldera supervolcano erupted, it would kill millions and destroy the breadbasket of the US.

I see it as a part of the judgments in Revelation against mankind.

It's just a personal belief.

You do? I wouldn't want to get that close, just in case for some reason the volcano decided to burp.

I've been that close. There was a series of eruptions in the north of Iceland back in the early 80s. I had an oportunity to see one of them. It's the only eruption I've ever seen up close, and it was awesome. I saw turists walk up to the still molten lava and throw coins on it, which they then poked further in with sticks. Then they were going to come the next day after the lava cooled and get the rocks with the coins stuck in to take home. I kept a little bit further away, but only a few meters.

The TOG

That is so cool, TOG ! Coins stuck in lava rock would make cool souveniers!

mt Vesuvius, that leveled Pompeii and her sister city is a super volcano.

Yes it would.I live very close to Mt.St.Helens and was fairly close when it blew in 1980.There were tons of souvenirs make from the fallout of the ash.Candles, ash trays and you name it.Once in awhile I still see stuff people are selling.

I remember various products advertised for sale. Didn't buy anything, but did consider it.
