Poll: Respecting her tattoo wish

Should Christians respect a woman's wish for a tattoo?

Would pole dancing be a way to witness to people, or smoking weed. The whole argument is crazy. How many of those 60% parlour clients are prostitutes. Do you know. I am wondering why you seem to be so obsessed with this topic.
Bum ba ba ba bump
What is the fixation with tatoos...of all the Christian topics that can be brought here, I am amazed that this subject keeps getting attention. Instead of marking one's skin, I think women should mark their bibles in order to remember bible verses. Injecting ink in your skin to me is not very smart.

:yes

Ryan:

You didn't quote all the verse, particularly the ones adjacent to the ones sometimes interpreted to be about what we now call tattoos (though these were in the context of pagan necromancy in any case). I mean, the part about not trimming one's beard. Do you hold not shaving as being in force today? this is my point.

2 Timothy 3:16
All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness;

Wondered when this passage quit being so relevant???

Nathanael: I hear what you're saying.

What do you make of preachers who shave, telling people not to have tattoos? (Another way of putting it: how do they pick and choose which part of Leviticus 19 to beat people with?)

Blesings.

You see, when we read God's Word, it is often necessary to understand the context or the reason behind many of the commands.
In my Bible, which is the King James Version, the footnote of the verse that tells us not to shave our beards says this: "Like the pagans."
This means that God didn't want the Israelites to shave their beards is because He didn't want them to imitate the neighboring pagan nations.
Therefore we should not conform to the world, "but be transformed by the renewing of your mind."

So is your point that we should no longer shave?

Why do some posts have my "like" when I didn't even "like" them???

What I wondered, too.

Anyway, whatever anyone says, the fact that faith based tattoos are proven to be effective conversation-starters is hard to contradict.

Blessings.

Good question... I think it's a software bug that should have just been fixed with our upgrade less than an hour ago. Don't worry, I think I know which posts your talking about. I don't see your name attached to them, but rather, I see mine.

Please send me a message if you see anymore

Thanks,

Agree Angel I will send this on to the Admins.... this is leaving false impressions.... Getting bugs out of stuff is not a quick thing, the guys are working as fast and often as they can....

ADDED that was fast..... :)

No that is my signature. I put it there when the site first came up and running and there was a thread about the like reply. So I added it to my signature as an inside joke which nobody got I guess.

The point I got from Nathanael’s post is, “We should not conform to the world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind."

Tattoos are a pagan practice of the world and as Christians we should not be indulging.

Be blessed.

They start conversations about tattoos and tattooing. You and Angel are proving this to be true.

They do not lead people to Christ. As tandemcpl testifies, to the world tattoos show you are like them, and to the Christian they can't tell you're a Christian. That's hardly an effective witness for Christ.

Not too terribly long after the Apostles died. It's irrelevance was cemented in as the official doctrine of the church by the fourth century if I'm not mistaken.

In trying to verify they are proven conversation starters on the net cause everything is true on the world wide web, I found this quote:

"Should I become an alcoholic to witness to alcoholics? Should I become a drug addict to witness to drug addicts? Should I open a porn store to witness to sex addicts?"

It's the same deal.

Deuteronomy 12:30-31
Take care that you be not ensnared to follow them, after they have been destroyed before you, and that you do not inquire about their gods, saying, ‘How did these nations serve their gods?—that I also may do the same.’ You shall not worship the Lord your God in that way, for every abominable thing that the Lord hates they have done for their gods, for they even burn their sons and their daughters in the fire to their gods.

Romans 8:7
For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God's law; indeed, it cannot.

Jeremiah 10:2
Thus says the Lord: “Learn not the way of the nations, nor be dismayed at the signs of the heavens because the nations are dismayed at them, for the customs of the peoples are vanity.

I find it hard to say that that Holy Spirit will bless a Scripture reference if it's written in ink on paper, but not if it's written in ink on skin and the wearer even testifies to the reader.

How do we know what the Holy Spirit will choose to use? God has promised to bless His Word; and we surely can't restrict the type of ink.

This is where the Lord has brought me. When I gave my life to him 3 years ago I let him make me a new person. He told me to not be of the world so I let go the worldly ways I was so entrenched in.

I gave up all of the things I used to fit in an ungodly world such as infidelity, porn, drinking, and tattoos.

You wrote, “How do we know what the Holy Spirit will choose to use? God has promised to bless His Word; and we surely can't restrict the type of ink.”

I can’t speak for anyone else but the test I use to make sure it is the Holy Spirit and not my flesh putting thoughts in my head is to weigh it against scripture.

Here are just a few examples from the bible:

“For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.” Gal. 5:1

“Since we have these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from every defilement of body and spirit, bringing holiness to completion in the fear of God.” 2 Cor. 7:1

“Do not be deceived: “Bad company ruins good morals.” 1 Cor. 15:33

And of course, one of my all time favorites from Paul:

“I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. Romans 12:1-2

There are many more but I think you get my point.
I don’t expect you and I will agree so this post is mainly for the young in Christ who might be struggling with this issue. I would hate to see any brother or sister get a tattoo only to regret their discussion later, like I do.

Be Blessed.

Great verses; thanks a lot for them.

Some faith based tattoos are actually based on Scripture verses, and again the intent may be the blessing of those to whom witness is given.

Blessings.

PS: Here is an example:

A woman has a tattoo of the name of a non-Christian ex-bf called "Bill". She decides to go to the parlor and get the tattoo changed from "Bill" to "Bible" and gets a lot of joy from her tattoo that now reflects her faith.
