Pope endorses same sex civil unions

Assumption: Every word and verse in the Bible is the word of God. If he didn't say it directly, he gave it his seal of approval.

If you fully accept that assumption, that the Bible is without error, and every single word is from God, just look at the consequences of that.
You don't have to read any other book. It is your sole authority . You don't have to entertain any other possible authority. You can put all your eggs in one basket. You've found the truth! Discernment?? Not so important. Just read the Bible yourself and the truth will be revealed to you.
But then chatting to other Bible readers, you discover that verses have more than one meaning . Other people have their own interpretations. "The truth" seems to vary according to your point of view.
But still you maintain the
I do not agree that verses have more than one meaning. God's word is not gray and means exactly what He says. The problem is that we infer multiple meanings on His word. That is why it is so important to take care and consider the entirety of His word and not just pick individual verses that can be taken out of context. We must read His word, study His word, meditate on His word, pray for understanding and guidance, and allow the Holy Spirit to interpret His word for us so we get to know Him in all His glory.

and allow the Holy Spirit to interpret His word for us so we get to know Him in all His glory.
And the Holy Spirit will tell you one meaning, and someone else another meaning?
Or does he tell everyone the same meaning?

But God didn't write it anyway. There were many writers.

All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. 2 Timothy 3:16-17

knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation, for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit. 2 Peter 1:20-21

Note...he doesn't endorse same sex marriage

AN Important difference. In the U.S. Homosexuals ALREADY HAD "civil unions", but wouldn't rest until they could have Church recognized "Marriages". I took a little while but now they have 'em.

Yet you people argue over what is the truth of scripture.seems you have different versions of the truth.
"You people argue over what is the truth of Scripture." First, you must include yourself in that statement. Not everyone listens to the Holy Spirit. Those with ears to hear, let them hear. Those arguments are not for the purpose of winning a contest. They are for the purpose of discernment as the Holy Spirit guides.

As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another. Proverbs 27:17 NIV

How do you know that? Did the HS tell you?
I'm not one to be a pain in the neck atheist but I'm just imagining you debating with one. They might be laughing by this stage.

Obviously I respect the sacred messages of the Bible which clearly communicate "love". The messages in regard to homosexuality seem to represent a dismissive God who has lost his patience. Therefore I can't help but doubt their authenticity.
We either accept all the Bible or reject all of it as we can not choose only the good parts that make us feel God. The Bible is our text book as we are schooled by the Holy Spirit who teaches us all truths. Just trying to keep it real.

But still you maintain the Bible is your sole authority. No need to think anymore. Just quote verses. In that way, God is talking, not you.
2 Peter 1:16 For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty.
2 Peter 1:17 For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
2 Peter 1:18 And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount.
2 Peter 1:19 We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:
2 Peter 1:20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.
2 Peter 1:21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

When we quote scripture it is what God has already said as we have to believe by faith in Him. Again, it is not about religion against religion, man against man, who is right or wrong, but that of having a personal relationship with Christ Jesus as His sheep hear His voice.

Your first problem here is that I avoid debating with atheists. That is not to say that I may on occasion get drawn into a debate though. I am fallible. One either believes or one does not. It is not my place to convince one way or the other. I am only presenting evidence from Scripture. You can take it or leave it or possibly consider it, study about it, meditate about it, pray about it, and open your heart to the Holy Spirit. I leave the rest up to Him.

But a book like the Book of Job, is written by some unverified source. Even we are not sure who the writers are, we have to have faith that God is speaking. That is a big leap of faith for me. Not that I don't like the book. It's one of my faves. So God made a story about himself making a deal with the Devil?

His word is verbal, but what He spoke He instructed
I'm trying to imagine God talking to these writers " now write this down, no edit that, write this, ".
Look I admit that writers can be inspired to write something very profound. Indirectly, they use their own writing style and thoughts. God's influence could be there. But for God to dictate, word for word ?? That's a stretch...imo.

I was expecting you to answer like that. "Cherry picking the Bible". But if we are to honestly read the Bible, and use proper discernment, parts of the Bible will just not make sense.
See your approach is "all or nothing". Which I think is more dangerous than "cherry picking". Because you have decided to stop questioning. You have switched off part of your brain and decided "just pray and obey". It has some merit of course but a fundamentalist view of the Bible leads to clear dismissal of gays for example. It's inflexible and close minded. The opposite of the Pope's approach.
