Praise and worship

Hi,

I am wondering if any one can point me toward some good praise and worship artists. The only ones I can think of off hand are Hillsong/Darlene Cszaech, Matt Redmond, Chris Tomlin, Phillips, Craig and Dean, MercyMe. I may know of some others that I can't think of right now. I'm not really into Christian Contemporary, although some of those artists do come out with good worship songs.

Any suggestions?

Yeah, I really like Hillson and Chris Tomlin as well. I also like Lincoln Brewster and David Crowder is pretty good too. I really like Life Support as well, they're a small Canadian band that played at a retreat that I went to in February and they were awesome.

Isn't Chris Tomlin contemporary? What do you mean by contemporary Christian?

A good local band from my area is Garage Hymanl.

Yeah, he's contemporary, but if you look at his songs they are worshipful, "How Great is Our God", "Jesus Messiah", etc.

By contemporary I kind of mean bands that sing about their Christian life in the world, etc. This is all fine and good, I have nothing against it. I just like praise (singing ABOUT God and His greatness) and worship (singing TO God for His greatness)

I'll look into that band. I like that name, Garage Hymnal. Thanks :)

you forget delirious. most of what they do is worship song then theres the group newsboy some of their music has been sung in my church.

Yeah, I will definitely have to check them out some more. Mostly what I've heard was on Christian radio and since I mostly listen to praise and worship cd's now, I don't hear a lot of stuff out there.

I can point you to my favorite Christian music of all time and I'll mention the artists in case you are interested in exploring further.

My all time favorite Christian songs are:

What Faith can Do? - Kutless
Remember Me - Kutless
I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day - Casting Crowns (The BEST Christmas song I've ever heard, even though it's a Christmas song I just had to list it)
Everything to Me - Avalon
Still My God - Avalon
In Your Love - Nichole Nordeman
What If - Nichole Nordeman
In Christ Alone - Newsboys and Avalon versions both are great
Draw Me Close - Katinas
How Great Is Our Lord - Bethany Dillon
Here I Am to Worship - Erin O'Donnell & Christy Nockels

But I have to say my all time favorite artist is KUTLESS.
KUTLESS RULES!!!! Their "It is Well" album ROCKS!!

Nichole Nordeman is also extremely talented, her music is awesome!

Newsboys, worship? To me they are about as Contemporary Christian Rock as you can get, and I LOVE contemporary Christian music. I guess it all comes down to your definition of "worship" music. "Worship" is actually a way of living, but when it comes down to "worship music", the lines are blurred (to me anyway).

I'm just thrilled to be living in a time when Christian music is so terrific! There is so much out there that every bit as good if not better than its secular counterpart. We've come so far from the 70's and 80's when it was very...lame, IMO.

When you're on the pc, it's great to have smile.fm streaming. No commercials!!! :thumb

I AGREE! :thumb

I think most of the artists I've listed are contemporary Christian... but really
faithtransforms doesn't know what she's missing out on.

I also LOVE contemporary Christian... and I totally agree that some are good if not even BETTER than their secular counterparts.

Faith you should check out contemporary Christian.

We do Our God Reigns as well.

i am beginning to hear of filthy lucre in ccm. the former leader of newsboys, had a drug problem and repented was on fire when he visited the local first church of god.

hey

i listen to Starfield, Jeremy Camp, Kutless, Matt Redman & a few others also.
try listening to some oftheir music & see what you like :)

xx

I'm really into Casting Crowns at the moment; their albums are amazing and they are not to loud. They get the biblical messages across, ask some brilliant questions in their songs and comeback with even better answers in their lyrics.

I've been listening to them non-stop for the past 3-4 days with the occasional intervention of Vineyard Music and still can't get enough of them. If you haven't checked them out, I suggest you do so.

[Apparently they are a fairly big band over in the States, so sorry if all the above is obvious >.<]

I LOVE Casting Crowns. And your right. While the music they've composed is terrific, their songs speak to me. They have a powerful sound in general. I saw them live once, and they have amazing stage presence. They really pull the audience in, and you truly feel like you're at a church service, more than a concert. I went through a phase where I listened to them nonstop for about 3 months myself. "Praise You in the Storm" - awesome song to listen to, especially when you're going through a personal trial.

Great post! :thumb Nice screen name too! :thumb :thumb

So no one has mentioned Michael W. Smith? Well, he has recorded some of the most ear, heart and soul-pleasing worship music in the last 10 years.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Worship_%282001_album%29

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Worship_Again

Both recorded "Live" and the first one was released, most appropriately too, on Sept. 11, 2001.

If you like something just a bit more contemporary, listen to these two worship CDs by Rebecca St. James:

Michael W. Smith is good "gateway" music for people to be introduced to Christian music, but for me he is too vanilla in his message to me. He serves a wonderful purpose in reaching out to secular listeners, but it seems like he tries to blend in too much to speak to me. Of course his Worship I & II CD's are great, but his other CD's are watered down. I prefer much more of a Gospel message in the music I listen to. :twocents

That is why I singled those two out. They both have great worship music on them. :yes
