So Mr. suicidal decides to take his life with a gun..why should i have to give mine up because of that?
Exactly !

I have to put MY wife at risk because some bipolar mental patient kills himself with a gun....PREposterous.
Again, "my" rights, or even the rights of the ones I love, are not the only consideration. We need to consider the global implications of any freedoms we think about conferring on ourselves.

Drew you using that reason should give up celebrating the christian holidays as well many atheists might take offense?

My rights are paramount. If 3% of a population have problem then let them seek help, don't punish the other 97%.
Isnt that sickening ?
WE shouldnt have RIGHTS because a few abuse those rights :lol
Sounds like the views of a communist...

I've said what i need to, I'm out.

I think this a position that is very difficult to reconcile with the gospel. From Phillipians:

regard one another as more important than yourselves;

If 20% of a population had drinking problems they can go to AA meetings for example..you don't ban all the boose.
America already tried that :lol

No, of course not.

Each case is different. We elect to "force" people to wear seat belts, yet we don't ban lotteries. There is a tricky balance between the rights of the individual and the rights of the society.

I choose not to buy a gun as MY WIFE HAS BI-POLAR AND HAS OVERDOSED BY ACCIDENT ON MEDS. But i see no need to stop foc from buying a gun. My wife could easily od on sleep meds and die that way, or the very meds used to treat her conditon

In the army suicides are up to 400% should we then ban the army?

Absolutely.
My father was bipolar and should NOT have had a gun.
That has NO bearing on me or my wife.

Was he talking about the church, or the whole world?

How did Jesus regard the Pharisees? lol

Drew extending that reasoning of anti-gun sacrifice so that others arent offended, while noble, shouldnt be applied to the right of gun ownership.

By that reasoning neither you nor i should ever own a home or anything untill all have the same thing, ie the homeless.

And lets not forget the CONTEXT from which Jesus spoke....to hardhearted Jews who hated their own brethren.
Some seem to forget that Jesus didnt speak in a vacuum.

The problem with this is that it simply way too expensive to properly screen people to filter out the "risky" cases from the non-risky ones. And this is not simply a matter of criminal background checks.

If it were practically possible to only give guns to those whom we can be assured will not abuse them, then you would have an argument. I just don't see how this could be done, though.

In other words, guilty until proven innocent....ie, you dont have ANY rights until the state deems you worthy.
Those arent 'rights' at all. Its communism.

Not a convincing argument. Taking this line, one could say that everything Paul wrote only governed the specific people to whom he was writing. The context of the statement makes me think that Paul was talking to us all:

If you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, 2then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose. 3Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. 4Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others. 5Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus:

enforce the gun registry, if one drives a car and is epilitic and you just one siezure you lose the driving privledge until cleared by a doc or permantely, This is happened to my dad several times. He is disable from epilepsy.

If one does have any mental illness the docs tell the government, and you lose the right to own guns, until fixed, and if unable to be fixed permanent ban.

My wife can drive, if she feels suicidal she could drive a car over the bridge, or close the garage door and start the car and die from co poisoning.

it has to come down to personal responsibility, not the goverment all the time stepping in.
i repeat if someone really wants to die, they will find a way to do it. even suicide by cop.

And thats how it SHOULD be, Jas.
Our RIGHTS should not be infringed unless there is a just cause to remove them.

The world seems to hate the fact that in the USA WE have the RIGHT to bear arms.
The world is just going to have to get over it.

.

I don't get it. The criminals will always find a way to have a gun. They'll kill cops to get them...or they'll make them in their garage...or they'll smuggle them in across the border. Banning guns will only take them out of the hands of law-abiding citizens and we'll be at the mercy of the evil people who will run rampant over the innocents.

How we be like minded and one in spirit with people not of the faith? I suppose I could be like minded with adulterers, murderers, thieves, atheists, and homosexuals. I just hope that like mindedness doesn't make me do anything bad, lol But, it does say we should be like minded.

<~~ off to the gay pride parade to be like minded and one in spirit with some of them, lol (i'm only looking out for their interests of course), lol
