Reading the bible in/within a year

ESword has Matt Henry, for free, which can 'show up' along with the verses your reading. I have Dad's old written books they take up the whole of the bottom book shelf. :eeeekkk

All that he did and no computer

He must be a special man. (Is he alive?)

For Matthey H, wow! You can't lift it.

All that he did and no computer = Matt Henry's writings...

But, yes Dad was a special man. He did use the MH commentaries for study!

I have to be honest with my walk with the Lord for the last forty some years as I started reading the Bible when I was 17 and now the ripe young age of 57 I have never read the whole Bible word for word, but would say I have read most of it. If one is reading just for the sake of accomplishment of just reading then they are missing out on so much knowledge.

I use to use commentaries until I found discrepancies between what they were teaching and what God was actually speaking. Now I study by taking a verse at a time and getting all I can out of it before going on to the next verse until I have studied the whole chapter asking the Holy Spirit to teach me. I also take many notes as I go and then compile those notes into the classes I teach and then I compiled all those classes into a book which is now pending at the publishers.

It's not so much that you read through the Bible in a year, but to understand what you are reading.

They say some people are immortal for their works remain here with us and in us.

Yes: but it requires thorough meditation. At times the Spirit says, 'Go through this chapter once more'

In that case you must obey. There were times when I finished an entire chapter but could not comprehend what I read. I was just reading for reading's sake. I was desperate to finish the whole bible.

It's not that voluminous. One of the daughters of one of our ministers did it within a day. It is frustrating to me:sad

Some people are naturally good. Her speed is awesome. Her typing speed (computer) is incredible.

I wonder if she comprehended what she was reading, if it only took a day.

I am not a fan of using a 'bible map' (for lack of a better word) for reading through the bible the first time. I am afraid that can create a false understanding by placing certain stories next to each other. Doesn't it also supplant God's formatting of the Bible?

I don't understand what you are saying. Put it in different words. ...sorry.

the bible(the septugiant)in pauls day had a different order to and it would be like that link to the tanach as that is the masoretic text which is a close to that era as the essene hebrews are also called masorites!

while its ok to seek the origins of holidays and so forth, as a gentile(you never claimed being a hebrew) its not needed to be fluent in hebrew

i am not and i wasnt raised in the temple though my avatar is a family (now heirloom) menorah. that was my grandparents chanukah menorah

why do some gentiles seem to think that when they meet messianic jews they all have to be like them. messaniac jews are ministry to jews. if you understand that then you will learn alot.

i could learn from them but its like going backwards in that they do the feasts all the time, when the feasts are for season in the PAST . it was done when jesus died on the cross.

and here a messaniac jew that i love to hear sing

I am not trying to be a messianic jew (if that is what you were suggesting). I also know very little hebrew (so little that I can't claim to know hebrew). My JPS is english.

ok, it doesnt happen to some that convert to that stuff. i have heard of it and work with one who is a modern day judaiser.

of course if she tried that with me know it wouldnt work, as i have learned where she errs even more.

she does what you do with the names and add the torah and shabat.

but ignores one key verse in acts 15.

no comment on the video?

Remember, since I grew up in the SDA church that is what I learned (though they used the English equivalent). I don't follow everything that SDA says as I no longer conform to anything other than what He has revealed to me (as far as I can tell).

I have read most of Acts recently and don't ever recall reading that. Interesting.

As for the song. It is nice. I find it hard to get involved in some music, though. I will listen to it again when I think I can receive it better.

you would like shalom jerusalem then since its all ot stuff with a messianic twist.

ie psalm 133, psalm 121 and one other.

I believe that everyone should do this at least once. There are so many that only read the few verses that the pastor reads in church , or the few verses that his/her dairy says to read today. I think there are many Christians who have never read the whole bible and are missing some amazing scriptures. I have started with this project back in November. I read about 4 chapters every night. I enjoy it immensely. At the same time I am compiling a database of all the verses that speaks to me and everything that speaks about big issues , both by hand in a book and in an excel sheet. The Word of God is like food for me and I simply can not go without it :)
