Why would anyone consider John 5:24, which was the clear context for this post, to be "no Scripture"??
The condition for eternal life, as stated by Jesus, in John 5:24, I do not find in your post anywhere.
The words of John 5:24 are not found in your post # 647, which is why I stated the plain and clear fact, indicating so.
Here is your post from # 647 for all to see and examine, to see if the words from John 5:24 are found in your post anywhere.
You've done so repeatedly, and every time misunderstood what v.24 is saying.
The facts, that those who believe (currently, or at the present time):
1. HAVE (as in POSSESS) etenral life
2. WILL NOT come into judgment or condemnation
3. HAS PASSED from death to life.
Paul described eternal life as a gift of God and taught that God's gifts are irrevocable.
#2 is a direct promise for the believer to never end up in the lake of fire.
One who has passed from death to life CANNOT reverse course and pass back into death because Scripture NEVER says such a thing.
Yes, they do. Eternal security.
Here is John 5:24, and the condition for eternal life.
24 “Most assuredly, I say to you,
he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life. John 5:24
There are conditions of a hearing and believing present tense, that are required by Jesus for a person to qualify for eternal life.
Here is how the YLT and NASB says it:
- `Verily, verily, I say to you -- He who is hearing my word, and is believing Him who sent me, hath life age-during, and to judgment he doth not come, but hath passed out of the death to the life. John 5:24 YLT
- “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life. John 5:24 NASB
Furthermore, Jesus also teaches us from the context, more about eternal life.
24 “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life. 25 Most assuredly, I say to you, the hour is coming, and now is, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God; and those who hear will live. 26 For as the Father has life in Himself, so He has granted the Son to have life in Himself, 27 and has given Him authority to execute judgment also, because He is the Son of Man. 28 Do not marvel at this; for the hour is coming in which all who are in the graves will hear His voice 29 and come forth—those who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of condemnation. John 5:24-29
...all who are in the graves will hear His voice and come forth—
those who have done good,
to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of condemnation.
- those who have done good, to the resurrection of life.
- those who have done evil, to the resurrection of condemnation.
Paul teaches us the same thing:
God, who “will render to each one according to his deeds”: eternal life to those who by patient continuance in doing good seek for glory, honor, and immortality; but to those who are self-seeking and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness—indignation and wrath,
Romans 2:6-8
We see here that God will judge each one according to their deeds.
- God, who “will render to each one according to his deeds”:
Then we see the judgement will be for either eternal life or not; indignation and wrath
- eternal life to those who by patient continuance in doing good seek for glory, honor, and immortality;
- but to those who are self-seeking and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness—indignation and wrath,
Here is Jesus on that Day, Judging His people, by these very standards:
31 “When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then He will sit on the throne of His glory. 32 All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides
his sheep from the goats. 33 And He will set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left. 34 Then the King will say to those on His right hand, ‘Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: 35 for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; 36 I
was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.’
37 “Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed
You, or thirsty and give
You drink? 38 When did we see You a stranger and take
You in, or naked and clothe
You? 39 Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’ 40 And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did
it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did
it to Me.’
41 “Then He will also say to those on the left hand, ‘Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels:42 for I was hungry and you gave Me no food; I was thirsty and you gave Me no drink; 43 I was a stranger and you did not take Me in, naked and you did not clothe Me, sick and in prison and you did not visit Me.’
44 “Then they also will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to You?’ 45 Then He will answer them, saying, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did not do
it to one of the least of these, you did not do
it to Me.’ 46 And these will go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.” Matthew 25:31-46
