Jesus said...
14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, 15 that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. 16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. 18 He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. (Jn 3:14–18)

What does it mean to be saved?
Like a coin with two sides, our salvation has two aspects. The first aspect of our salvation is that God has saved us from His condemnation and the eternal damnation that our sins and sinfulness earned us. The second aspect of our slavation is that God has given us eternal life.

Why do we need to be saved?
Everyone is in the same boat. We are all sinners in need of a Savior. There was no hope for us to escape God's condemnation and His eternal punishment for our sins outside His love for us that compelled Him to offer His own Son as a sacrifice for our sins. We all stood condemned, but He gave His Son so that those who believe in Him will not perish but have everlasting life.

How does a person get saved?
Like those who looked at the serpent and lived, so too those who see Jesus on the cross and believe in Him are not condemned and will never perish.
