School system

As I think about it, I didn't care much for history either. Too much memorization and that was of no interest to me.

I took AP history in high school, and found it interesting. I passed the test and got college credit for it. By contrast, memorizing state capitals in grade school was boring and unpleasant beyond all reason. I learn best by understanding how things work. Memorizing long lists is just meaningless noise that doesn't help me to understand. I tend to forget the memorized lists soon thereafter, but remember understanding for the long run.

Maybe partly I blot the memorized lists out of my mind, because they make me recall how unpleasant it was to memorize them. I remember understanding because it has pleasant memories. Understanding is fun.

The Colonial era and Revolutionary War is pretty much all we were taught; I grew up in one of the 13 original colonies.

What was happening in Europe? Asia? The west of North America? South and Central America?

Even just that one time period, it becomes much more interesting (to me) to see how it's inter-related, and independent.

Better yet is to see the progress through time, and how different regions did that differently, and how we wound up where we are now.
Europa at the time was paying the explorers to be pirates,to burn other colonies .

I know that from looking into laws, stories ,we have pirate fest here that goes into real pirates.

France,Spain ,and brittain, portugal fought over the new world,

We were part of that .I can post savannah history of statues as they face their enemies. Gov Winthrop faces Florida ,specifically st.augustine.he was to keep the spanish out of south Carolina .Georgia was swamp land south of its mountains and useless to the crown.

It is getting more sad each year. I got out of high school hardly feeling educated on some things and things I hear now is saddening.

Not all schools are the same, of course, so my opinion may not apply to all.
