Should Christians follow Doctor's orders?

asthma is one thing that can kill some if it severe enough, that inhaler does help. Or what that allergic reaction to bees where the epi-pin is used. It will save a life. keeps the heart beating when the toxin are trying to shut it down.

Wisdom and balance are important. I look to a lot of "natural" remedies when it comes to things. Things like cranberry juice for UT infections, but if it doesn't clear up, then yes, I go to my doctor. I like Vinegar for a sore throat, it really works, but if there are some other symptoms, especially fever, then it's time for a trip to Doc Schantz.

A personal testimony about allergic reactions to insect stings and bites and the idea that "real Christians rely on prayer":

This past year I was getting a role of toilet paper out of the cupboard. Now y'all know how you pick up a roll of TP, you put your fingers into the paper cylinder right. Well, I did and felt an extremely sharp pain in my finger and watched as a spider went flying out of the spool and landed on the floor. I stepped on the spider, but not before making sure that it was just an ordinary household spider, not a black widow or brown recluse. Because I do have allergic reactions to stings, I immediately took a couple of Bendryl. However, in an hour or so, I had a rash, I was having trouble breathing, my chest was hurting, pain was radiating up my arms. Now, I want to testify that I prayed and prayed earnestly about this bite. And, you know what God's answer to my prayer was? It was, "Get down to the ER right away!!!" I also had called poison control and their answer was "Get down to the ER right away!!!!" So, I went to the ER and got a round of shots.

My point is, we live in a time of real blessing when the medical profession can do more than they have ever been able to do. And the Lord doesn't mind us using medical knowledge to heal our bodies, any more than He minds us using planes, trains and automobiles to move our bodies from one location to another, even though He is perfectly capable of miraculously transporting us to where ever He desires we be. Natural remedies are good too, and often are all that are necessary. And there certainly will be times when God will simply heal of us things. But, no Christian should ever feel that their faith is somehow lacking because they go to the doctor. Sometimes that's just plain old common sense.

Cranberry juice unless you boil them yourself is not worth it because it doesn't kill the bacteria just feeds into the infection. Cranberries are great for flushing it but something like garlic would be great to kill the infection.

Now toxins in the body. If you are going 2-3 times a day that is excellent. It shows you are having a good diet with lots of fiber. Colon cancer doctors recommend that you go at least 2 times a day to decrease your risk. Why because you need to dump the toxins in the toilet. In our store we get so many people in there that tells us all the time that they go maybe once a week. I'm like what once a week. If I don't go everyday at least once I take slippery elm or some fiber like psyllium hulls. My kids too i ask them everyday did you go poo today. Toxins in the body also contribute to tonsilitis. It is actually toxins from bowels dumped into your blood. I know it's gross to some but poo is necessary every day.

About asthma just a quick testimony about me and how I got into the natural stuff. I was on 2 inhalers daily, antibiotics, and steroids daily. As well as two allergy pills daily. One for emergencies too. I don't remember all the names because it's been like 3 years. I am now off all of it. We even had a cat for a year which before I couldn't even be with in 10 feet of a cat or litter box with out wheezing. It was so bad one time that my husband had to help me walk because just walking from the living room to the kitchen I couldn't breath. So yes there are alternatives. The key is if you do use natural stuff you have to have good quality herbs, and minerals.

allergies can be temporary, you do know that? i have been told that by a doc, I dont often take meds for my asthma, i should as i dont laugh deeply as i cough instead. I actually have a post nasal drip with asthma. I get attacks every once in a while.

exercise via bjj helps to keep that down, but when i get sick then i need the inhaler as i will cough up a lung and run fevers in the 103 to 104 range.

Jason I was the same way and doctors will tell you all kinds of stuff. I went into the ER the other day for chest pains and I knew right away it was my blood pressure. Well they gave me Zantac for indigestion. Allergies can come and go and be only temporary. Allergies can also be passed down. I am not saying I don't ever get allergies, but they are manageble without all the side effects with what I take. It actually sounds like you are getting sinus infections. Really bad ones. I have went through that too.

no, only when i get sick does it get like that. I dont take any asthma medicines. though i should as i have the continue asthma mucus that i can literal hear when i breath deep enough. This may be combat service related.

Cancer is only free radicals in our body which is damaged cells. To repair it you take antioxidants.
Umm...no. While free radicals (atoms and molecules in a state that makes them highly reactive) do have something to do with the formation of cancer, they and cancer are very different. Cancer consists of cells which replicate senselessly as mechanisms that control their growth has become defective, including an "emergency switch" that causes a misplaced cell to commit suicide.

Our bodies tell us something is wrong way before we get to that point. But by covering it up and keeping toxins in our body then we are basically telling our body to shut up every time we take the pill they give us.
Frankly, if the doctors that you've been to always only suppressed the symptoms instead of removing the cause of the symptoms (eventually along with prescribing something that provides relief of the symptoms if they are sufficiently annoying), then you've been to lousy doctors. That's not standard practice.

I have diabetes. I have sometimes not felt like eating but forced myself because I am supposed to eat 3 times a day, hungry or not. Part of me thinks that God would only want me to eat if I am hungry. Another part of me thinks He would want me to follow doctor's orders and eat as she wants me to. If I don't eat three times a day I have symptoms. So where do I draw the line?

Follow the doctors orders.
Diabetes can be controlled so that it will not be an issue.
If you still have issues, look for alternative treatments online.
As you apply alternative treatments, continue to follow doctors' orders and see where it leads you.
Pray for Gods' wisdom and regardless of treatment, believe that it is He that heals you.

Everyone, not just Christians should absolutely follow doctor's orders. Why would you go to a doctor if you're just going to ignore the advice they give you?

Absolutely correct! Which is why I don't really go any more. Oh, I'm sure they can get me on cholesterol pills, or BP pills, or whatever pills if I went, which is why I don't. Why waste money on drugs when you can be taking vitamins and such? :lol

There's nothing wrong with taking vitamins. If you're healthy and taking care of yourself properly and rarely go to the doctor then that's great!

You're right in saying that cholesterol and BP pills aren't very effective. It's true that in most people they won't prevent a heart attack or stroke. However, the reason that they still get prescribed is because over a large population, the number of lives saved actually becomes a significant number.

Personally if I have a problem that I can't fix myself, then I will definitely go to a doctor.
Like right now, I have an ear infection. Usually with these things before anything else, I will try using 3% hydrogen peroxide on my ear. If that doesn't work, I see a doctor. (And it looks like I'll have to.=/)

My dog has an eye infection or something at the moment. That's something you definitely don't want to mess with, so we took him to the vet ASAP. He prescribed an antibacterial anointment to apply to his eye twice a day. Without it, there's the possibility my dog could lose his eye.

Doctors (and vets) definitely aren't perfect and there are things I wouldn't want done or that I may seek alternative medicine for. But I do think that the medical advances and practice have overall done more good than harm.

Hope you'll be feeling better soon.

(For a moment I thought this thread had been started by the guy who believes that not even cancer is a reason to go to the doctor, but I see that it wasn't.)

Blessings.
