Bible Study should women wear head covering and men wear beards ? proof?

Um, if you are looking for specific anatomic references in the bible to mention what biology has labeled "ankles" you will not find it... the scriptures were written in a time of languages and sciences in flux... the upper arms Jesus was nailed to the cross through for example were said to be his hands... the tongue is elsewhere translated literally "lip." and so on.

Consult the propriety of times past to learn the effect a woman who rolled down her stockings to expose her ankles had on men.
No, I was asking reba about her post.

It doesn't seem to me that there is any evidence at all to support the idea that this was just something for the Corinthians.
This thread is taking on some bizarre aspects, and all kinds of irrelevant facts and Scriptures are being tossed around as though they have a bearing on the subject. We even have Scriptures from the OT which have nothing to do with the woman's head covering.

To claim that a specific teaching in Scripture is limited to the first century or to the local assembly which was addressed is pure nonsense. If that is true, then none of the epistles are relevant to Christians ever since the end of the apostolic period. We might as well cut out 85% of the New Testament and say "That does not apply".

But the beauty of this passage (1 Cor 11:1-16) is that the Holy Spirit anticipated the nay-sayers and the contentious who would challenge Paul's teaching. Note carefully what he says by Divine inspiration in verse 16: But if any man seem to be contentious, we have no such custom, neither the churches of God.

What exactly is Paul saying in this concluding verse? He has already expounded the teaching on the woman's head covering in the preceding 15 verses. Now he sums up everything by saying that if any person decides to dispute or quarrel about this teaching, let him know that none of the churches of God throughout the Roman empire have a custom of having women uncovering their heads. Those words are not there, but that is precisely what is implied. This is sufficient to tell us that this was not a teaching to be limited to Corinth, but it was to be universally applied to every church in every age. The fact is that many Christian women accept this teaching today and practice it. The sad truth is that many Christian women disregard it, instead of teaching it to their sisters in the faith.

Sin to God is just as ugly... just as tempting to him to wipe out all of humanity and the fallen angels for what it cost his dear Son. But he has a higher purpose and destination for all things (Romans 8:1 Romans 8:28). So while we are to use the Law as at least a guideline not to sin and to convict us when we have sinned,

1 John 2:1–5 (NIV84)
1My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have one who speaks to the Father in our defense—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One.
2He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.
3We know that we have come to know him if we obey his commands.
4The man who says, “I know him,” but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in him.
5But if anyone obeys his word, God’s love is truly made complete in him. This is how we know we are in him:

1 John 1 (NIV84)
5This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all.
6If we claim to have fellowship with him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth.
7But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.
8If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.
9If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
10If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives.

1 John 2: (NIV84)
6Whoever claims to live in him must walk as Jesus did.
7Dear friends, I am not writing you a new command but an old one, which you have had since the beginning. This old command is the message you have heard.
8Yet I am writing you a new command; its truth is seen in him and you, because the darkness is passing and the true light is already shining.
9Anyone who claims to be in the light but hates his brother is still in the darkness.
10Whoever loves his brother lives in the light, and there is nothing in him to make him stumble.
11But whoever hates his brother is in the darkness and walks around in the darkness; he does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded him.
12I write to you, dear children, because your sins have been forgiven on account of his name.
13I write to you, fathers, because you have known him who is from the beginning. I write to you, young men, because you have overcome the evil one. I write to you, dear children, because you have known the Father.
14I write to you, fathers, because you have known him who is from the beginning. I write to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God lives in you, and you have overcome the evil one.
15Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
16For everything in the world—the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has and does—comes not from the Father but from the world.
17The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will of God lives forever.

Malachi do you wear sandals.. I sure hope so i hope you teach your brothers to do the same..

Mar 6:8 And commanded them that they should take nothing for their journey, save a staff only; no scrip, no bread, no money in their purse:
Mar 6:9 But be shod with sandals; and not put on two coats.

So says you.

I disagree.

Great point!

Legalism by any other name is just as blinding.

Gal 5:1 Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.

And as far as head coverings / beards in the OP / title... I'd say modern society has gone well past these matters and for the OP to serve as a springboard into what the modern Christian must deal with is NOT bizarre or irrelevant... just the development of the conversation. Lest we all sit in silence and simply be preached at. Eh, Malachi?

Gal 5:1 Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.

But bear in mind...

Galatians 6:8 (NIV84)
8The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.

Dresses to the ankles is in verse 17 ? :couch

Exactly, sister! and verses 18-19 says she must keeps the drapes drawn and not look out the windows while while the husband is out working./

Seriously though, who knows?...there may even be a spiritual significance to the woman who has long hair and the man who wears his beard as prescribed in scripture? Why else even address it, aesthetics? I doubt it's as simple as that. There's always a reason for everything with God. Besides, girls with long hair are prettier than short haired girls, in most cases (to me).

Women when men don't have Christ
images

Good point. But if I were to post a modern photo of women who have Christ today, I'd probably be investigated at the very least for as infraction of the board rules (and rightly so).

Point being, we've taken liberty meant to further the kingdom and abused it instead to further personal freedoms in the name of Christian liberty. And I believe for this we will give an account at the BEMA seat. Especially when it concerns neglected people we were supposed to witness to with our actions, and little children we exposed or participated in the exposure to that which grown adults really should not be exposed to...

What kids see today (and for many generations now)... Oy gevaldt!

We may not have done the actual dirty deeds, but had we not done our dirty deeds in the name of liberty the more extreme perversions of God's Law would not have been possible (not without severe penalties).

This is why we have lost so much ground in society in recent centuries. All perversion is perversion. And rather than getting our own act together first to help our fellow man get the speck out of his eye, we simply condemned / judged others who were further down the slippery slope of perversion than we.

The taboo on exposure of legs was also applied to men, btw. This was one reason women were not allowed in the workforce since men had to trice up their robes exposing their legs to do work unencumbered by the robes they wore in those days. Perhaps the not looking out the window had this in mind.

Care to exercise our liberty here in opposition to the tyranny above?

I mean, if we are {PROUD} of our liberty and it is of no consequence or does no harm? Why not post pictures of what is accepted attire in modern times here and now (both male and female).

Any takers?

More importantly do you get the point I am making?

Learn sumpin' new evvy day, lol. Thanks brother, I didn't know that about working back then.

Some guy I knew years ago supposedly tried to do that to his wife and not let her look outside unless he was home. I bet he isn't still married to her. I joked with my wife about that once and got a shoe threw at me, lol.

I like the look of floor length dresses on women, but what I don't get, is if long hair is a glory to women (and it is!), then why cover it up?

Here, I'll start...

Look at how repressed this poor woman is!
The nerve of society making her hide who and what she is and her femininity is lost in the materials...

Dreadful!

How about this poor woman?
