So do I believe what it says and the points are that at death:
So you quote a section of Scripture to try to support your doctrine of soul sleep, but it doesn't teach that at all.
- Both the unbeliever and believer are having a conscious experience;
- They are not asleep.
- The believer is in Abraham's bosom;
- The unbeliever is in Hades;
- The unbeliever is experiencing torment in Hades.
- There is no soul sleep here.
This is scripture -
22 So it was that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels to Abraham's bosom. The rich man also died and was buried. 23 And being in torments in Hades, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. 24 Then he cried and said, 'Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.' 25 But Abraham said, 'Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things; but now he is comforted and you are tormented.
This is not -
- Both the unbeliever and believer are having a conscious experience;
- They are not asleep.
- The believer is in Abraham's bosom;
- The unbeliever is in Hades;
- The unbeliever is experiencing torment in Hades.
- There is no soul sleep here.
If I was a person who did believe in soul sleep, I would point to # 3, #4, and #5, and ask where does the word unbeliever and believer occur in this scripture?
You would then reply with more of your opinion, and I would have successfully brought doubt to your post because of your opinion.
Others who read this exchange would doubt your position because of your use of your opinion.
I hope this simple lesson was helpful to you, and that you would consider this the next time you "explain" what an assertion is.
