he has been baker acted. which is the best thing that could have happened. its a temporary fix but it will at least make him see the signs of it coming on act before he goes to that level of depression.
I don't live near him. a member here does but I must get the patient to willingly to reach out to the other person who can help. I can stay in contact of course, but still in face time is far better.

a baker act is where you under the force of law can against their will detain them and take them to a pysch ward to be monitored for their safety. its only for three days and unless they are a threat to others or themselves after that period.what is this baker acted ?

you can turn yourself in and the er will do it , or you can be escorted by the cops, or taken to the right place by a family member. my brother, and sister have been baker acted.
