A new study from Probe Ministries might suggest that the doctrinal beliefs of born again Christians are shifting. That’s not terribly surprising, as no religious group will ever be totally immune from the winds of change, but the beliefs themselves are surprising and, as we’ll see, contradictory. For example, of the born again Christians between the ages of 18-39 surveyed, 60 percent agreed with the statement “Buddha, Muhammad and Jesus are all valid paths to God.”

Wouldn't such a belief indicate they were not reborn?

Yes, I would agree that's true.
John 1:17; "For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ."
John 17:3; And this is eternal life, that they know you the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.
John 8:31-32; "So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

Wouldn't such a belief indicate they were not reborn?

Not neccesarily.

They could have given heed to a false teaching, a doctrine of demons, and departed from faith in Christ.

Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons, 1 Timothy 4:1

1 John 2:19;
"They went out from us, but they did not really belong to us. For if they had belonged to us, they would have remained with us; but their going showed that none of them belonged to us."

Not neccesarily.

What you are saying is that people can come and go as they choose.
I disagree.

I couldn't check off any of the three.

If someone denies Jesus he will be lost.
But not all know of Jesus.

Romans tells us in chapter 1 that God has always revealed Himself. God is a just God, and this is so that everyone will have a chance to be saved.

Jesus appeared to a small tribal community by way of Abraham...but God created man and loves the whole world,,,not just Israel, which would make Romans incorrect if that were so.

Jesus Christ as the only way to life everlasting is fundamental. I think my question is why so many unbelievers are warming pews in churches all over America.

Not neccesarily.

Do you really think that those who "depart from the faith" are reborn?
I don't, as the reborn would have stayed.
It is written..."They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us." (1 John 2:19)

Why would that make Rom 1 incorrect?

What does any of this have to do with The study that showed 40 percent of Christians stating they believed there were other ways to God?

What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he loses one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness, and go after the one which is lost until he finds it? And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing. And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and neighbors, saying to them, Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep which was lost!’ I say to you that likewise there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine just persons who need no repentance. Luke 15:4-7

  • Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep which was lost!’

One of His sheep became lost.

Its clear it was His sheep who became lost and repented and returned.

Why would that make Rom 1 incorrect?
Romans 1 states that God has always made Himself be known.

If it applies only to Israel in the person of Jesus, then Romans 1 would be wrong.

Both ideas cannot be right.

Have I made clear the two ideas?

I believe that Jesus is the Word, Truth and Light - according to John 1

Therefore, I believe that God provided His Word as the remedy for darkness, confusion and sin - Genesis 1:2-5

I believe that we please God by seeking / taking action on His Word (which is the Truth and Light which He provides for us in order that we might be delivered from confusion and darkness). - Hebrews 11
