Taking medz for mental state

Greetings. I wanted to know your thoughts on taking medicine for mental health. After several attempts of trying to take my own life and really hitting rock bottom, I finally got the help I needed in therapy and taking medicine. I was diagnosed with Bipolar and severe depression and since I have been on an antideppressant and antianxiety medicine, I have been fine. My mind is clear, my thoughts are pure and I have truly been committed to Christ and fighting for his kingdom. I just want to know is that okay taking the medicine, or should I have relied on God to deliver me? Thank you.

You already gave the answer to your question.

Glad to hear you're doing better now. :) Stay on the meds as long as you need them. Maybe in time the meds can be reduced or maybe even completely discontinued. But even if you have to stay on meds until the day you die that's fine. If it's bringing you closer to God it's the right way.
The Bible never discourages using "earthly" medicine (as far as it doesn't involve magic of some sort). Jesus compares Himself to a doctor, thus he has a neutral or positive attitude to the medical profession.
So maybe the medication just is God's way of delivering you?

Thanks for the kind words. God bless.

A diabetic takes insulin. Why should a person not take a medication if there is a chemical imbalance of the brain? If a person needs it and does not take it there could be problems. But that takes a very good therapist and psychiatrist to determine that.

I thank the Lord for the chemo. I see no difference taking meds is taking meds... yes bipolar is different then cancer.. a broken arm is different then a broken leg... Hopefully we would get a broken bone fixed...

The way is see it is He did deliver you...

God granting miracles
A religious man is on top of a roof during a great flood. A man comes by in a boat and says "get in, get in!" The religous man replies, " no I have faith in God, he will grant me a miracle."

Later the water is up to his waist and another boat comes by and the guy tells him to get in again. He responds that he has faith in god and god will give him a miracle. With the water at about chest high, another boat comes to rescue him, but he turns down the offer again cause "God will grant him a miracle."

With the water at chin high, a helicopter throws down a ladder and they tell him to get in, mumbling with the water in his mouth, he again turns down the request for help for the faith of God. He arrives at the gates of heaven with broken faith and says to Peter, I thought God would grand me a miracle and I have been let down." St. Peter chuckles and responds, "I don't know what you're complaining about, we sent you three boats and a helicopter."

That is a great story reba.
A man gets bitten by a poisonous snake.911 is called and the man refuses to go to the hospital because he knows that God will heal him.If that man dies is it God's fault?Could that man have gotten medical help which God might have sent him?God has provided medications, physicians, nurses and hospitals for a reason. After a person is in the care of a medical profession he prays to give those professionals wisdom. To guide their hands so that person will heal.

If meds help to make you better than I would say this is Gods way of also healing as you never know that someday you might not need them anymore. I had a hip replacement over a month ago and I know without the pain pills after surgery I could have never been able to tolerate the pain. I still use them, but not as much. Only when I need them. God does work through doctors so stay on your meds and pray that someday you will not need them anymore.

God creates all things. He creates the researchers, scientists, doctors and chemists. He creates their brain and blesses them with the gift of knowledge and intelligence to find cures and treatments for illnesses. He then leads us to a physician or therapist etc who diagnoses the malady and prescribes the meds. I believe he does this to show His love for us as he doesn't want us to suffer. If He gives us a way to ease the symptoms of many types of illness or imbalance, we are foolish not to use it.
Claudya is right when she said as long as it doesn't involve witchcraft and magic etc. because that does go against God and His will.
Also, while God give the doctors and chemists and others the intelligence to develop cures and treatments, he does this for good and His glory. It's up to those people whether they choose to use it for good or evil.

Your treatment has given you clarity and peace of mind, which in turn has helped you to strengthen your faith.
All part of His plan methinks. He obviously wanted you closer to Him.

Thank you all for the words of wisdom. Yes, my life is better now that I am on the medz and I believe that one day the Lord will take me off of them. It's a process, I know. I'm just being obedient and trust God. Thanks.
