Ar you saying printing presses like that one are not used to print Bibles nowadays?

Either way, Gutenberg's press incorporates quite some engineering as well.
printpress.jpg

E.g. leverage effect to gain a lot of pressure, the letters were made of lead, so you need some metalworks to get them in first instance, the ink doesn't exactl grow on trees either.

I wouldn´t exactly say the printing press helped Christianity....it was actually one of the causes of the great schism.
WHAT!!!!

The Gutenberg printing press caused the schism in the Catholic Church 400 YEARS before it was invented?????

The other schism you dumbtruck!!!! The Protestant Reformation !!!! Deliver me from these heathens!!!
Are you and Dr Doom friends?[/quote:f3a82]

One would think that such blatant ad hominem would warrant an official warning, or something. Mods on vacation, or something?

Science can´t even explain how gravity works for Pete´s sake !!!!!

Hello, AC -

Actually, it can.

It will take quite a bit of study to get there, but if you are interested, it's called the General Theory of Relativity. It was offered by Albert Einstein in the early 20th century.

Just to get a little hint of what General Relativity says about gravity, you have to be willing to entertain the notion that space isn't nothing. Rather, it's something - it has structure. It can bend, compress and stretch.

When there is a massive body occupying a certain location in space, say, a sun or a planet, there is a kind of 'dimple' in the fabric of space associated with that body. Space curves inwards toward the body.

When things fall to the earth, they are not drawn there by any force that reaches across space and grabs them. Rather, things are just going about their inertial business, traveling in a straight line through a curved space - a curved space that brings them into contact with the earth.

Yes, there is some unfinished business with the General Theory of Relativity. For one thing, they don't know exactly how to make it jibe with quantum mechanics - but string theory holds some promise in that area.

If you want to know more - how General Relativity was figured out, how the theory has been verified, etc - you'll have to get a book and be prepared to exercise your mind.

Greetings, Artguy -

You have to cross a certain vocabulary threshold to merit a warning. "Poopie pants" will do it most times. "Dumbtruck" won't do it, you see, because dumb trucks are cool, and most guys will not mind being compared with one. Who wouldn't want to be identified with a rusty old Peterbilt, barreling it's muscular but heedless self down the highway?

Did you all know that phrenology was recently found to apply, but only when the measurements were taken from font size? An inverse relationship to intelligence was established.

That is very interesting.
