While referencing himself, he used the 3rd person voice. The bird who visits your thread thinks so anyway.
I agree it was John. In His earthly life Jesus had one very good friend whom He was the closest to. Jesus was human after all, and like the rest of us, some of us have what we refer to as 'best friends'. So did Jesus. This is also why He asked John to look after His mother. We can only assume perhaps something happened to Mary's husband who is not made mention of much.

John? Well no name was giving. It seems to me Peter was closer to Christ than any other of the disciples...dunno.

All of the deciples loved Jesus. If I am not mistaken, John was the only one who didn't die a Martyrs death. He was also blessed with seeing God's future kingdom via visions (Revelation). He was the deciple Jesus loved.
