UPDATE: On Wednesday afternoon, A&E, the cable network which airs "Duck Dynasty," suspended Phil Robertson indefinitely from filming, issuing the following statement: "We are extremely disappointed to have read Phil Robertson’s comments in GQ, which are based on his own personal beliefs and are not reflected in the series 'Duck Dynasty.' His personal views in no way reflect those of A+E Networks, who have always been strong supporters and champions of the LGBT community. The network has placed Phil under hiatus from filming indefinitely."

GLAAD issued the following statement in response to A&E's decision, attributed to GLAAD spokesperson Wilson Cruz: "What’s clear is that such hateful anti-gay comments are unacceptable to fans, viewers, and networks alike. By taking quick action and removing Robertson from future filming, A&E has sent a strong message that discrimination is neither a Christian nor an American value."

=======================================

The stars of "Duck Dynasty" might be America's most popular TV family, but that could change very soon — because Phil Robertson has made some seriously divisive anti-gay remarks that have sparked instant backlash.

Speaking with GQ, Robertson lamented that when "everything is blurred on what's right and what's wrong ... sin becomes fine." So just what qualifies as sinful in his book?

"Start with homosexual behavior and just morph out from there — bestiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman and that woman and those men," he declared.

Phil probably should have cut himself off at this point (considering he's a national TV star), but instead he paraphrased Corinthians. "Don't be deceived. Neither the adulterers, the idolaters, the male prostitutes, the homosexual offenders, the greedy, the drunkards, the slanderers, the swindlers — they won’t inherit the kingdom of God," he warned. "Don't deceive yourself. It's not right."

What's more, according to him, it's basically incomprehensible. "It seems to me, a vagina — as a man — would be more desirable than a man's anus," he explained. "That's just me. I'm just thinking, 'There's more there! She's got more to offer.' I mean, come on, dudes! You know what I’m saying? But hey, sin: It's not logical, my man. It's just not logical."

Within minutes of GQ revealing Robertson's quotes (which will appear in the January issue), GLAAD issued a fiery response — and the gay-rights organization is none too pleased.

"Phil and his family claim to be Christian, but Phil's lies about an entire community fly in the face of what true Christians believe," said GLAAD spokesman Wilson Cruz. "He clearly knows nothing about gay people or the majority of Louisianans — and Americans — who support legal recognition for loving and committed gay and lesbian couples. Phil's decision to push vile and extreme stereotypes is a stain on A&E and his sponsors who now need to reexamine their ties to someone with such public disdain for LGBT people and families."

Cruz, who cited an August Public Policy Polling survey showing 56 percent of Louisiana residents supported same-sex marriage, stopped short of calling for an all-out boycott of "Duck Dynasty."

Despite Phil's strong words, however, he insists he's a Christian who doesn't condemn others — even if they are "sinners" in his mind.

"We never, ever judge someone on who's going to heaven, hell. That's the Almighty's job," he told the magazine. "We just love 'em, give 'em the good news about Jesus — whether they're homosexuals, drunks, terrorists. We let God sort 'em out later, you see what I'm saying?"

Still, Robertson insisted that his family "really believes strongly that if the human race loved each other and they loved God, we would just be better off. We ought to just be repentant, turn to God, and… everything will turn around."

And it seems that the tide is already turning, considering the fact that once GLAAD issued its statement, Phil was quick to clarify — and soften— his previous remarks.

"I myself am a product of the '60s; I centered my life around sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll until I hit rock bottom and accepted Jesus as my Savior," the TV star said in a statement released by A&E Wednesday. "My mission today is to go forth and tell people about why I follow Christ and also what the Bible teaches, and part of that teaching is that women and men are meant to be together. However, I would never treat anyone with disrespect just because they are different from me. We are all created by the Almighty and like Him, I love all of humanity. We would all be better off if we loved God and loved each other."

And there you have it — at least for now. While Phil is standing by his opinions, he might be feeling a bit repentant about the way he originally stated them.

Discussion of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) is also limited and will only be allowed in Christian Talk & Advice, and/or the Bible Study forum. We understand the need to discuss LGBT issues, and to provide support for those struggling with such issues. This restriction is in place because experience has taught us that many are unable to debate this in a Godly manner, or and without promoting sin in one form or another. We do welcome posts for support or prayer, or sincere Biblical discussions.

Don't you find it curious that A&E didn't cancel the show instead of merely placing one member of the show on hiatus? Obviously, they're after the money the show generates.

I wonder how long it will be before the rest of Robertson's family & co-stars decide to call the show quits? After all, Robertson was voicing his opinions - his Christian opinions - in an interview, after being asked his opinion on homosexuality, and therefore was protected by Free Speech.

Even Ducks have to be PC :angry3

He has the right to speak his mind but so does A&E.... and so do the duck watchers... speak their minds by boycotting the advertisers

Tolerance is a one way street...

I'm proud to see a TV star take a stance on ANYTHING scriptural! It's about time! I say
AMEN!!!!!!!!!
I always thought Duck Dynasty was a pretty stupid show. I like it a lot better now. :thumbsup

I placed this article here to let people know' what we as Christians face when we stand up for the Bible. Many Christian stars today don't have the guts to stand up. And that goes for many preachers too. This man was asked a question and he said what God said and got fired for it.

I applaud the man, and would applaud the rest of the cast if they chose to pull the plug on this show over this. They make plenty of money off of their business, which was why this was made into a show in the first place. The Lord will look after them.

Being Texan and having fallen in love with the Cajun and Creole peoples at an early age, I love Duck Dynasty and all the folks on the other shows that deal with Swamp people.

Phil might not be permitted to debate his point of view on many, many Christian Forums but I will run the Street in Heaven, leaving my Hospital Bed and Wheel Chairs behind ad if I beat him over the River Jordan, I'll be there when he crosses to shake his hand and to welcome him home.

I'll also give A&E a piece of my mind, along with the sponcers of Duck Dynasty, the best, wholesome, comedy on the Tube.

Phil Robertson on Southern Racism: I Never Saw the Mistreatment of Any Black Person

Phil Robertson may want to choose his words more carefully the next time he submits to an interview. As previously reported, the 67-year-old Louisiana native has been indefinitely suspended from future episodes of "Duck Dynasty," the A&E show that made him and his family famous, after he made virulently homophobic remarks in a sit-down with GQ. (The grizzled patriarch seemed to equate LGBT individuals with "terrorists" and "drunkards," suggesting that "homosexual behavior" could "morph" into "bestiality" and worse. "They won't inherit the kingdom of God," he added. "It's not right.")

As it turns out, the duck-call entrepreneur's GQ chat covered more than simply the subject of the LGBT community. When asked about whether he witnessed bigotry or racism against African-American people growing up in the pre-civil rights South, the ousted reality star opined: "I never, with my eyes, saw the mistreatment of any black person. Not once. Where we lived was all farmers. The blacks worked for the farmers. I hoed cotton with them. I'm with the blacks, because we're white trash. We're going across the field. ... They're singing and happy," Robertson surmised.

He continued: "I never heard one of them, one black person, say, 'I tell you what: These doggone white people'—not a word! ... Pre-entitlement, pre-welfare, you say: 'Were they happy? They were godly; they were happy; no one was singing the blues.'"

Before A&E suspended him, Robertson addressed the homophobic comments in a statement. "My mission today is to go forth and tell people about why I follow Christ and also what the bible teaches, and part of that teaching is that women and men are meant to be together," he said. "However, I would never treat anyone with disrespect just because they are different from me. We are all created by the Almighty and like Him, I love all of humanity. We would all be better off if we loved God and loved each other."

Lewis,
I got to your remark, "it's not right," I stopped reading because Phil, like myself, takes his position straight from the whole of scripture. Neither you, I nor the staff at A&E have the right to censure him. Tolerance is not a one way street and when it reaches the point you are pushing here, it has just become, as Obama wants, a dictatorship.

There are hundreds of millions of Lost People in this nation, many of them calling themselves Christian, that I disagree with and they disagree with me but we tolerate each other. This entire débâcle is the perfect illustration of the lack of tolerance from the far left Homosexual Activists.

So, being Christian, you can't tolerate men like Phil an me? We still love your soul.

I don't think "it's not right," was Lewis' comment, but part of the quote from Phil.

The family members of Duck Dynasty have released a statement, saying they are now in discussion with A&E concerning the future of their show. The rest of the show's members do not want to continue forward without Mr. Robertson.

In the meanwhile, A&E continues to show a Duck Dynasty marathon.

This will be interesting. I hope they take Phil back and continue the show. If A&E refuses to take Phil back then I hope the rest of the family quits the show. It would be a great way to show other Christian celebs that they should stand up for what they believe in. Maybe a different network would hire them, who knows?

I am wrong, as has been pointed out and I'm sorry. I tend to get a bit too excited at the intolerance of the Left as they call for the tolerance they have been afforded in the past and now, again, sorry.

I was a bi male when I lived in louisana. I got saved there.
Jason,
You're not the only forgiven person here, I grew up, involved in that mess. I still love the Homo's heart but I despise their sin.

I sent a message, via, their Facebook Page that I know Fox would be tickled to death to have their show.
