The gift of the Word of knowledge.

First, let us note the fact that this gift called word of knowledge, not the gift of knowledge. For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit ( 1 Cor. 12:8). There is no such thing as a spiritual gift of knowledge. The word of knowledge is the supernatural revelation by the Holy Spirit of certain facts in the mind of God.

God is all knowledge; He knows everything. But He doesn't reveal everything He knows to man. He gives him just a word, or a part of what He knows.A word is a fragmentary part of a sentence, so a word of knowledge is simply a fragmentary part of knowledge. God is all knowing. He has all knowledge. But He doesn't impart all knowledge to us, nor does He impart knowledge to us; He imparts a word of knowledge to us, just that part He wants us to know.

There is much more to say about this gift. I would like to see others speak about this gift.

Mutz. My experience with this gift was a good one. One time when I was shopping at Wal-Mart standing in line at check out, I sensed that the woman ahead of me was wondering how to be saved. So, I asked her if she knew Jesus. She I was waiting for someone to ask me that question. And she did Accept Christ after I ministered to her. One time I woke up in the morning and the first word that came to my mouth was the word forgiveness. I got my Bible out and looked up that word in my concordance. I hope this answers your question.

Is this Webster’s definition or a scriptural definition, or what? :-?

So, what we are talking here is extra revelation outside the revelation of the written word? :o

If this is the case then I guess anybody can claim a “word of knowledge:o

If so, then how does verify whether or not this “revelation†is real or not?:o

Then, does the revelation scripture become scripture if it gets written down since it came from God? :o

The word of knowledge...Hmmm

Simply put what I believe Paul means here is simply this, ''Knowledge refers to the ability to apply doctrinal truth to life''.......Let me explain....A word of knowledge will always in my opinion line up with scripture...or really, it should be scripture or steer you to scripture....I have had people come to me and say, ''Javier I have a ''word'' for you from the Lord''....I always listen and if it is scripture I will take it heart and pray about it. If it is opinion, I simply listen and that is it....

Jude 3 puts it plainly. ''3 Beloved, while I was very diligent to write to you concerning our common salvation, I found it necessary to write to you exhorting you to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints.''

What we contend earnestly for is the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints. Notice that! Not “once upon a time†but once for all. The body of doctrine is complete. The canon is finished. Nothing more can be added. “If it’s new it’s not true, and if it’s true it’s not new.†When some teacher claims to have a revelation which is above and beyond what is found in the Bible, we reject it out of hand..... The faith has been delivered and we neither need nor heed anything else. This is our answer to the leaders of false cults with their books that claim equal authority with the Scriptures....This after all is how the JW came to be....How the Mormons came to be....By a so called special revelation from God.....

Yes, it does answer my question. Thankyou. And I agree that the Spirit of God does give (the man of the Spirit) knowledge of things that He (God) desires for that man to know and act upon - for the building of the body of Christ. This is indeed a spiritual gift.

Going by Mutz answer and this testimoy, I would 100% agree that this was a prompting of the Holy Spirit...God was going to save this woman and used Jack to do it...I would not say this was a word of knowledge though, but jack being obediant to the Holy Ghost....

Let me ask you guys something. Did Jesus have the Word of Knowledge operating in His ministry? Another question. How did Jesus know that the woman at the well had five husbands? Didn't Jesus give us the responsibility to win the lost over. Do you guys seem to think that God doesn't give us tools to do this?

1. Yes, Jesus was God and was omniscient.

2. Jesus was God and was omniscient.

3. Yes, 2 Cor 5:20 Now then we are ambassadors for Christ,

4. He gave us the tools:
a. Prayer
b. The written word of God -
Rom 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
Heb 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
1 Th 2:13 but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe.

Great post AV....I agree with you....100%

Jack Nobody is saying anything negative about your encounter. I praise God you were there for that women... All we are saying is that what you showed as a an example of the gift of knowledge was in my opinion a prompting of the Holy Ghost, not the gift of knowledge as Paul taught it....Simply go and look at the context as to what Paul was saying....He was revealing mysteries as God was putting the cannon together....

Goodness I see the problem. Some of you guys actually believe that the Word of God is not written on our hearts by the Spirit, but it is only assimilated into our 'hearts' as we read the pages of a book written with pen and ink.

I testify to the fact that it is the Spirit of God which IMPARTS the word of God and other spiritual gifts to man in various ways. Whether man wants to deny it or not, God to this day imparts, by His Spirit, the word of wisdom to one, the word of knowledge to another, prophecy, faith, gifts of healing and so on for the edification of the body of Christ.

And Mutz, I agree with you, I fully believe in the gifts of the spirit....What I am saying in regards to ''the word of knowledge'' is not what you seem to think it means....Tell me mutz? Give me your definition of what the word of knowledge means?

Christian sometimes confuse "...the word of knowledge..." 1 Corinthians 12:8

With the "...spirit of divination...". Acts 16:16-18

What Golfjack is describing as his gift, is the gift of "...discerning of spirits..." 1 Corinthians 12:10

The gift of discerning of spirits has nothing to do with demon spirits:
  • The Spirit the word of wisdom[/*:m:5ae01]
  • The word of knowledge [/*:m:5ae01]
  • Faith[/*:m:5ae01]
  • the gifts of healing [/*:m:5ae01]
  • the working of miracles[/*:m:5ae01]
  • prophecy[/*:m:5ae01]
  • discerning of spirits[/*:m:5ae01]
  • divers kinds of tongues[/*:m:5ae01]
None of the gifts Paul is telling us about has to do with with evil spirits, but for the edification of the Church.

Golfjack is discerning Angels:

"...Of the angels he saith, Who maketh his angels spirits, and his ministers a flame of fire". Hebrews 1:7

"...Are they not all ministering spirits [The Angels], sent forth to minister for them [Golfjack]who shall be heirs[The lady at Wal-Mart] of salvation?" Hebrews 1:14 (Some humor there)

Ex. You must study a different Bible than I do. I haven't a clue what you are talking about.

Please show me where the word of God is written in our hearts...today...in this age.

Are you going to take me to Jer. 31:31and Heb. 8:8?
You are not going to spiritualize the passage and make it doctrine to the body of Christ today are you Mutz?

If that is the case then why did Paul tell us to study - II TIm. 2:15?

God bless

A word of knowledge - an hypothetical case

A asks B for the definition of ‘a word of knowledge.’

B can’t find the right words to describe it so asks C how he would describe it.

C says, “don’t even think about trying to define it. A will never understand no matter what you say.â€Â

B muses. “Mmmm – never even told C about A.†:-?

It seems to me the problem is the difference between natural knowledge and super-natural knowledge.

Hmmm just as I suspected....You don't have a clue.....or you have nothing that can be supported by scripture....
