The Great Apostasy

The willful falling away from the truth of the Bible.
These people change their beliefs and use Scripture wrongfully to support their doctrine.
It comes in all sizes and colors.
Take your pick: there's an apostate belief out there for you.
Or simply start your own and create your own following.
Social media is a good place to start.

Promise people whatever they want: you will gain a large following and lots of money.
Then you gain control of their minds and then you have power.
Power, money, and prestige.
Just do it with a smile on your face and a firm voice, demanding that it is the truth of God.

Apostasy, we see it today like never before.
We even pass it by as though it was nothing to be concerned about.
It is spoken of in the Bible many times, warning us of it's evil intent.
And yet, do we really care and respond to it?

Expose this enemy when you see it, talk to others if you have doubt.
Be prepared to face this enemy with the Word of God.

It is end times stuff, and we're in the middle of it.
Are we soldiers for Christ, or not?

Oh boy are you right! I can just imagine being a new believer in Christ Jesus and not have someone to direct them to a sound Bible believing assembly. They are very apt to stumble into a Christian social club with the name of church attached to it.

To me, it's a matter of divorcing myself from the "traditions" of the old denominations, but being aware of the modern "feel good', "spiritual high", movements of today. When I begin to question their doctrine, I'm pushed aside as a wet blanket....Well, so what? I'd rather be a wet blanket than an ember ready to be cast into a fire.

John 6
44 No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up at the last day.

John 10
27 My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.
28 And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand.
29 My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father’s hand.

Matthew 22
14 “For many are called, but few are chosen.”

God will never leave one His children stranded and if by chance they do wander into one of the many "Christian social clubs", the Lord with give them the wisdom to see the truth. Not everyone that answers the call, makes it to the end. Sad but true.

Sometime i think the 'valley of the shadow of death' is dead churches

Hmmm

Psa 23:4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

It's only semantics but I feel I should explain.

"Sometime i think the 'valley of the shadow of death' is dead churches"

"The valley of the shadow of death is anywhere that God isn't."

Those 2 comments basically have the same meaning. I'm gonna go ahead and assume that a dead church is a Godless church. If you were filled with the Holy Spirit and happen to wander into a dead church, the church would still be dead. It would still be the valley of the shadow of death. God being with you doesn't transform the immediate surroundings into something holy. If it did, that verse from psalm wouldn't make any sense.

Do you see what I'm saying?

What if someone begins with a wrong doctrine.

Can apostasy be a way of realizing the wrong, and resetting the mind for good?

Yes,The valley of the shadow of death is all around us.Christians and nonchristians. It is sorrow, the trials and tribulations of our world.
Psalm 23:4I will fear no evil;
For You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me

I think this tells us that if we have faith God will walk us through that valley so we will not be afraid.

What beliefs would be defined as apostate? There's a loaded question...I've heard things called apostate that I don't think are.

I guess to me, the answer would be denying what are considered the basic fundamentals of the faith.
These being:
The inerrancy of the Bible
The literal nature of the Biblical accounts, especially regarding Christ's miracles
The Virgin Birth of Christ
The bodily resurrection and physical return of Christ
The substitutionary atonement of Christ on the cross

Other examples would be churches based on hyper grace or hyper legalism--ie, I know of churches that exist that teach sinning is good because it increases God's grace. (Hyper legalism being having to do or avoid certain things to earn salvation. I don't know of any specific examples of that, but I know enough to know they exist.)

As much as this thread is anything but a joke, i couldnt help but be thankful i didnt have a mouthful of coffee when i read that. In my mind was a vision of this, flashing in neon lights, with a sign up sheet even.

I wonder what would happen if everyone stopped buying books from people writing about and telling what God is, stopped watching cracktube preachers, stopped trying to discern His mind, stopped looking for what they percieve as "spiritual giants" to tell them what to do and how to live, and simply read their bible and talked about things with folks they know?

Apostasy combat? Even if something weird did come up it sure wouldnt go far. Fantasy i know, but a guy can dream.

What I see are sound Statements of Faith.
Sounds good?
But then they teach and preach something else.

Some churches worship God the Father and not Jesus.
Some churches worship the Holy Spirit and not Jesus.
Some churches will pray and say, "in Jesus' name", and yet have nothing else to do with him.

Some churches will help you focus on "self", that you can do it all.

Many churches do not teach and preach the Word of God.
Their followers never develop a solid base of Scripture.

People are led down the wrong path, thinking it is the right way.

This is happening in traditional churches.
When everything needs to be tested by Scripture, they do not know Scripture.

The best way to combat this is to know Scripture and be ready to use it.
Places like this forum help us to grow in the knowledge of God and prepare us for the world around us.
Put on the full armor of God, pray in the Spirit, be ready to combat false doctrine.
I've lost friends over it.

It can be tough to serve God.
But there is nothing more pleasing in my spirit, then knowing that God has prepared me for this day and that I am ready for the task.
I do not have all the answers, but when I see wrong, I attack it for what it is.
We need to also pray for each other so that we will all be ready to serve God in this way.

Those people are known as blind followers of the blind. And as heartless as this sounds, we're not responsible for them.

Matthew 15
13 But He answered and said, “Every plant which My heavenly Father has not planted will be uprooted.
14 Let them alone. They are blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind leads the blind, both will fall into a ditch.

The Lord calls who He calls and the truth is, not everyone who professes belief makes it into the Kingdom. That's a scary thought because I'm one of those who professes belief.

When I look around and see what's happening in the world of Christians, I'm not dismayed. I used to be. I used to think that somebody has to say something to these people. They have to be warned.

I used to feel that way, but I don't anymore. When I look around, what I see is scripture unfolding before me. I see living proof that the Word of God is true. And as grateful as I am for the Lord showing me these things, it does not bring me joy. Countless multitudes are going to have their names wiped from the Book of Life.

I personally don't believe we're seeing the great apostasy. I believe the world is being prepared for that "falling away" that's mentioned in Thessalonians. A month or so ago a highly respected leader in the christian world made a statement regarding entrance into heaven. He said it was not necessary to believe in Jesus in order to enter Heaven. I believe that statement is the key that opened the door for the great falling away that is to come.

I believe what we're seeing today are the false teachers and false prophets that are mentioned throughout much of scripture. Teachers of empty words and authors of tickling messages. Soothers of itching ears.

I believe the road is about to get bumpy.

Just my opinion.
