The Human Spirit

We will all leave our bodies behind as we depart this sinful earth. How about the human spirit? That means the human spirit can't be contaminated with sin. This spirit will stand before the Almighty in the day of judgement. Right? Does it mean the human spirit is the (or 'a') pure and perfect part of man??? How about the soul?

There are competing theories. One is, as you implied, the tripartite theory of human composition. The other is the bipartite theory, which sees spirit and soul as interchangeable. The second solution would resolve your problem as non-existent.

Yes, because the spirit is connected to your soul. When your baptized in the Holy Spirt/God's Spirit, God automatically aligns your spirit and soul with his. Either you're baptized in both or you lack both.

The Nature of the Holy Spirit is will, mind and emotions
The Function of the Holy Spirit is conscience, intuition and communion

Yes, they are separate, but they are both on the inside of us. Are soul and spirit not both inside flesh? This has everything to do with the Trinity. Notice how the definition of spirit has the word soul in it. Also notice the definition of the word soul has separate from your body in it. Do you see how their intertwined. If your spirit of conscience, intuition, and communion isn't aligned with your soul of will, mind and emotions of God then what does that say of you?

Spirit Definition: The soul regarded as separating from the body at death.
Soul Definition: The spiritual part of humans regarded in its moral aspect, the principle of life, feeling, thought, and action in humans, regarded as a distinct entity separate from the body.

Functions of Soul and Spirit

A careful study of the Bible will show that man has a spirit (Job 32:8), that his spirit has a definite function (Rom. 1:9), and that the function of the spirit is different from the function of the soul (Luke 1:46-47). Since all of God’s communications with men occur in the spirit, it is crucial that a believer know his spirit. If he does not know his own spirit, he does not know how to have fellowship with God in the spirit. Not only that, he mistakenly takes the thoughts or emotions of the soul for the activity of the spirit. Confining himself to the realm of the soul, he seldom reaches the realm of the spirit. The Bible clearly shows first that we have a human spirit, second that our human spirit is not synonymous with our soul, and third that it is not the same as the Holy Spirit (Rom. 8:16).

The Human Spirit

According to the revelation of the Bible and the experience of believers, the human spirit can be said to have three main functions. These three functions are conscience (Rom. 9:1; 8:16), intuition (Mark 2:8), and communion (John 4:24). The conscience is the part of the spirit which distinguishes right from wrong and is not influenced by knowledge stored in the mind; it is rather a spontaneous direct judgment. The intuition is the “knowing†part of the spirit. All true knowledge originates not in the mind, but in the spirit. The revelations of God and the movements of the Holy Spirit are known to the believer through his intuition. A believer must, therefore, take care to heed these two aspects of his spirit: the speaking of his conscience and the teaching of his intuition. Communion is the third function of the spirit, and is related to the worship of God. The soul is not competent to worship God. According to John 4:24, “God is a Spirit and they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth.â€

The Human Soul

Not only does man possess a spirit which enables him to function in the spiritual realm; he also possesses a soul which is the organ of his self-consciousness. The soul is the seat of the human personality. The ingredients which make us human beings belong to the soul. The intellect, thought, ideals, love, emotion, understanding, decision, choice, and other like qualities are all associated with the soul. The three main functions of the soul are the will (Job 7:15), the mind (Lam. 3:20, RSV), and the emotion (2 Sam. 5:8; Deut. 6:5). The will is the instrument for making decisions and choices. The second function of the soul is the mind, the instrument for thinking. It is in this part of the soul that man reasons and has knowledge (Prov. 2:10). The third function of the soul is the emotion. This is the instrument of likes and dislikes. Through the emotions we are able to express love or hatred, joyfulness, anger, sadness, or happiness. A shortage in this area will render us insensitive. By a careful study of the Bible, we cannot help but be impressed that these three primary functions of the personality belong to the soul.

1 Thessalonians 5:23 (KJV)
23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

The body is the fleshly part of man in which the soul or spirit dwells. The Bible makes no distinction between the soul and the spirit. The terms are used interchangeably and refer to the spiritual entity that dwells in the fleshly body and makes that body a man.

Life on earth is the union of the soul or spirit with the material body; the two combined constitute the living being or person as we see and behold him. Death is the separation of the soul, or spirit, from the material body; so this loses its vitality and crumbles into dust.

It may not state the distinction in the Bible, but 1+1=2 - When you're baptized in the Holy Spirt/God's Spirit, God automatically aligns your spirit and soul with his. Either you're baptized in both or you lack both. The functions of your own spirit and soul are now aligned with God's Holy Spirit. The soul of God is God himself, which is Holy.

You received the gift of the Holy Spirit after you have repented and are baptized....

Acts 2:38-39 (KJV)
38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Peter, by the Holy Spirit, promised two things on the condition that they repented and were baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. The remission of your sins" and "the gift of the Holy Spirit."

Alright forumers...before the ball completely leaves the pitch (all replys are still valid). I was actually trying to ask, (I may have reiterated, sorta) the spirit, soul and body exist. The body ends here. The spirit and soul proceed to the next level: the heavenlies. Which (sould or spirit) stands before God at judgement day, soul or spirit? Let's assume any of these. It seems the spirit/soul is without contamination - and is always perfect. How can this stand before God (and even if the spirit/soul was that of a sinner <body>)

I'm probably ranting here....and maybe not concentrating. Maybe am so happy about the game we won;) Alavés 0:3 FC Barcelona

Because your spirit and soul are both INSIDE your flesh, thus both stand before God.

A dies and B dies. A was without sin before his death. B was an excellent sinner. Obviously the bodies of A and B are left behind. A and B spirits appear before God at the judgement day, huh? It seems the body is so sinful but the spirit isn't ....thus the reason a spirit stands before HIM at the judgement. Have never pondered over this before

All it TAKES is one to be sinful, one follows the other. Sin is sin no matter where it's coming from.
Are these things not connected to your brain, heart, spirit and soul..

The Function of the Holy Spirit is conscience, intuition and communion

Hi Classik, I posted this on your other thread about where do we spend eternity and thought I would post it here also.

The soul and the spirit are connected, but separable. The soul is the essence of humanity’s being; it is who we are as in our character. The spirit is the aspect of humanity that connects with God and that is where the kingdom of God is in our spirit that connects to God through being Spiritually renewed, born-again according to John 3:3.

Ecclesiastes 12:7 Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.

Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

John 3:
3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

4 Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born?

5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.

Please consider these scriptures. I think they are quite clear.

God talking about Himself.
Matthew 12:18

King James Version (KJV)

18 Behold my servant, whom I have chosen; my beloved, in whom my soul is well pleased: I will put my spirit upon him, and he shall shew judgment to the Gentiles.

God talking about us through Paul
1 Thessalonians 5:23

King James Version (KJV)

23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Hebrews 4:12

King James Version (KJV)

12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

God comparing Adam (us without being born again and the indwelling without the Holy Spirit just a soul, dead spirit) and Jesus
1 Corinthians 15:45

King James Version (KJV)

45 And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit.

Jesus said we were a new creature in Him. Was your body made new? NO Was your whole thought and emotional state made new? NO So that leaves your spirit, the spirit that was made ALIVE IN CHRIST. The new creature, the place where the Holy Spirit can dwell in us. Walk in the Spirit not in the flesh. Does this mean don't walk with your flesh body? NO Don't walk in that fleshy soul that was corrupted by the world and susceptable to the deception and tempting of satan. Renew your mind by the word of God, put on the mind of Christ. The soul needs to be renewed to the mind of Christ. The soul is being transformed by the Holy Spirit and this transformation will not be finished until we go to be in the presences of our Lord.

How could we in are soul have been "made the righteousness of God, in Christ"? We sin!!
But that new creature, our spirit that is alive in Christ is one with the Holy Spirit. Is our sinful souls one with the Holy Spirit?? Impossible.
Can any unrighteous thing have eternal life and live with a holy God?
