Unless people think Jesus failed they are still waiting for the end of the world and sin to be put away. Thats what people believe right. There waiting for the end of the world and for sin to be put away because obviously they believe Christ failed on the cross.

The old heaven and earth passed away on the Cross and he ushered in the new heaven and earth, the kingdom is at hand. Old covenant passed away, new covenant ushered in.

Read this one scripture. There is more I can post but just read this one and who believes it?. Or are they still waiting for Christ to come once at the end of the world and put away sin?, because they follow doctrine.

So he appeared once at the end of the world and put away sin as it says. But no, people don't believe it, still waiting, don't believe in Christ and his works. Rejected.

Why do you think Jesus said people will come in his name saying 'the time is near' and dont believe them.

People have been waiting 2000 years for his return and they can wait another 50000 years it makes no difference. The time is never near, the time was fullfilled for those who have ears to hear and the time is now.

You can believe the days are literal, although you do have a problem with the light being created before the sun.
I believe the days are "time". The Hebrews did not understand time exactly as we do. A day could be thousands or billions of years. Do you suppose the earth is only 6,000 years old?

Acts 2:7 states, by Jesus Himself, that it is not for us to know the TIMES or EPOCHS which the Father has fixed.
The Hebrews and Jews understood time in epochs.

Paul wrote the book to the Thessalonians specifically for this reason. They had understood that Jesus would return eminently, but Paul corrected them and told them to go about their business and not wait for Jesus to come back. They had stopped going to work, etc.
1 Thessalonians 5:1-2

I agree. Except that it's important to understand the concept of time to be able to understand the entire bible.

When 1 John 2:18 says it is the last hour, what does it mean? That the end is imminent? Or does it just mean that we are in the last days, but those "last days" could last hundreds or thousands of years.

God's time is not our time.

A good point.
But keep it in perspective.
We still live in the old heaven and earth as long as we have a fleshly body.
But we have been born again, thus, we live in a spiritual realm that is given to us by Jesus through the Holy Spirit.
When that final day comes, Jesus will put it all together and we don't know when that will happen.
Just receive it in faith and praise the Lord that you will be part of it.
