Bible Study The Narrow Gate

What many don't realize is that those gates sit side by side and at first glance appear almost identical. It isn't until you get up close and examine the details that the differences become noticeable. The narrow gate seldom gets used because the path leading from that gate starts out at a steep incline with very little if any scenery, whereas the wide gate promises an easy walk with a gentle descending slope with many wayside stops along the way.

Most often, because of the narrowness of the gate, it doesn't even get noticed.
.

I like the comparison. It's those wayside stops that allows so much temptation to be set before us and cause us to fall short from grace at times.

Unfortunately, narrow gate preaching doesn't draw many people these days, only a few very serious and dedicated believers who consider worldliness is a terminal cancer to their relationship with Jesus....Wide gate preaching draws great crowds of people who have itching ears, and a thirst for a big Christian Social Club where they can show off expensive cars, houses, and fat wallets. This has been my observation, obviously there are exceptions to this, but not many.

I wonder, if I walked into a narrow gate church, what would I see and hear?

This reminds me of how people put blinders on the horse to keep them in a straight path as they can not see to the left or the right and stay on that narrow path before them not being distracted of what is around them. I think we need those blinders at times in our own personal walk.

This reminds me of Pilgrims Progress.

This reminds me of a dream that an atheist had. He was in a very large field. Right down the middle of the field was a fence. On either side of the fence were people. On one side was Jesus and a crowd of people. On the other side was the devil and a larger crowd of people. He knew he was to make a choice. He saw Jesus look at him, then his watch and tap it with his finger and look to him again. What a hard decision. A moment to think it over. So he climbs onto the fence to sit and think for a moment. Suddenly everyone disappeared on both sides of the fence and he found himself alone.

Then all of a sudden the devil appeared beside him and said oh, I've been looking all over for you, sorry I forgot and left you behind, let's go. The man said but I didn't make a decision yet, all I did was to sit on the fence to think. The devil replied, yes you did...the fence is mine. And he took him.

He woke up from the dream a believer. As I understand it, this was a real dream that a real atheist had.

There is no fence riding when it comes to God. Either you are for him and go forth to learn of Him or neglect Him and walk away.

I remember I once told a bunch of preachers at a fellowship conference, that the narrow Christian lifestyle was the hardest to live. A Pentecostal Preacher said I was wrong, it's the easiest to live. I think he was a wide road preacher. IMO.
I think you are right :)

That is really cool and how true. Thanks for sharing that. :)

I'm thinking things haven't changed much the flesh is always in our faces look at today's mega churches if anything they are more flesh oriented.. Learning comes with time we grow and keep growing "hopefully"
