Matthew 13:36-43
Then Jesus sent the multitude away and went into the house. And His disciples came to Him, saying, “Explain to us the parable of the tares of the field.”
37 He answered and said to them: “He who sows the good seed is the Son of Man. 38 The field is the world, the good seeds are the sons of the kingdom, but the tares are the sons of the wicked one. 39 The enemy who sowed them is the devil, the harvest is the end of the age, and the reapers are the angels. 40 Therefore as the tares are gathered and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of this age. 41 The Son of Man will send out His angels, and they will gather out of His kingdom all things that offend, and those who practice lawlessness, 42 and will cast them into the furnace of fire. There will be wailing and gnashing of teeth. 43 Then the righteous will shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears to hear, let him hear!

I think it plainly says we are not to consider ourselves the designated judges of others.

This parable is actually not about the "Church" it is about our world.Christ is the sower. He spreads His redeemed seed, true believers,in the field of our world. The enemy in this parable is Satan. The devil tries to destroy Christ's work by placing false believers and teachers in this world who will lead many astray. In heaven there will be no "weeds" among the "wheat".But now, both good and bad seeds mature in this world.Sometimes the difference in the true and false believers in not obvious.Jesus warned that those who profess faith do not know Him 2 Corinthians 13:5.

Although you didn't actually post the full parable.... where the intent of the story was.... the parable really was about the workers (the church... us) asking if they should rip up the weeds now. And Jesus told them not to, that this would be the task left to the angels in the Day of the Lord.

They, like us, seemed to be very intent upon stepping in and doing some judging and vengeance taking.

About the world not the Church. There is more to the parable?I do not agree with your analogy.

OK, let's say you're right. As the church, what does this leave you deciding might be a certain path to take?

The world... or the church?

I follow your sentiments on us believers not judging others. But the workers are Angels.

Matt 13:28 NASB~~And he said to them, ‘An enemy has done this!’ The slaves said to him, ‘Do you want us, then, to go and gather them up

Matt 13:39 NASB~~and the enemy who sowed them is the devil, and the harvest is the end of the age; and the reapers are angels.

Being a true believer in Jesus is always a good thing :)

I Corinthians 5:12
For what have I to do to judge them also that are without? do not ye judge them that are within?

We leave the world to God. Church discipline, not world discipline.

So, what, then, was the point of Jesus even bothering to mention this parable to His disciples?
